Re: Roland Garros - 2019
Krajinovic chokes serving for the set. Broken to love after a string of cheap unforced errors. Tsitsipas did not have to do anything.

Tsitsipas through. Now it is Zverev's turn to make a mess of a match that appeared to be heading to a straight sets win.

Djokovic's next opponent is Caruso. He is 26 years old and has only played seven matches on tour his entire life before this RG. Where do they even find players like that? That is going to be slaughter.

Yeah, that was pure crap from Filip. Zero balls. Ah well....Still proud of him, he played a cracking match until it mattered.summerblues wrote:Krajinovic chokes serving for the set. Broken to love after a string of cheap unforced errors. Tsitsipas did not have to do anything.
Tsits is a better player, glad he didn't have to drag himself through set 5.

Didn't see that one. Feel sorry for Dimi. To go down in 3 tiebreaks is tough.summerblues wrote:Some clutch play from Stan.

Coric deep into the 5th set vs Struff. I quite like Struff, so would not mind if he won today. He will have no chance vs Nole but that is ok, Coric would lose to Nole too anyway.

I reckon Jahu, though that’s only a 99% bet

Re: Roland Garros - 2019
Oh don't be like this. Here are their first four opponents:noleisthebest wrote:We’re talking R4 over R3.
Now there is a world of difference in that one.
Nole: Hurkacz - Laaksonen - Caruso - Struff (who just played a long 5-setter)
Rafa: Hanfmann - Maden - Goffin - Londero
There is not much between the two. They are both very easy. Rafa has three nobodies + Goffin. Nole has two nobodies, plus Hurkacz and Struff. On the other hand, Goffin is better than Hurkacz/Struff.
Rafa does have an overall easier draw because of Thiem being on Nole's side, and even more so if Nishi fails to make QF, but the first four rounds are similar.
Fed's first four rounds are possibly even easier than the other two:
Sonego - Otte - Ruud - Mayer (who is apparently a possible withdrawal for tomorrow)

Re: Roland Garros - 2019
Thiem is not looking very convincing. Dropping sets left right and center. Also, I think he was down 2:5 in the 4th set in Rd2 before he came back.
Hopefully what does not kill you makes you stronger.

Thiem struggling again. He was up a break in the 4th set but they are now back on serve, Cuevas leading 4:3.

Re: Roland Garros - 2019
I watched highlights of Fed's yesterday's match. Is it just me or is he playing super-aggressive, hard-court tennis? Minimum of long rallies, going on the attack first thing he can. He did that in the first round too. I am guessing he realizes he cannot play like this in later rounds (or can he?), but is trying to save as much energy in the early rounds as possible.

Fed vs Mayer is on the schedule for tomorrow, so maybe the rumors of Mayer's withdrawal were premature.

Fed's got it easy.
Bring on the Fedal semi.
What does your 1+1=2 say to THAT?

I don't know. I was hoping more something like Fed vs Londero.noleisthebest wrote:Bring on the Fedal semi.
Sure, there is part of me that would just love to see Fed beat Rafa - at almost 38, on clay, at RG - but there is part of me that does not think that would happen.

1: Khachanov, Wawrinka, Nadal
2: Tsitsipas, Mayer
3: Struff, Fognini, Thiem, Del Potro, Nishikori, Londero

First set goes to Stan after Tsitsipas serves a double fault on SP. Some serious hitting from both guys going on in that match.

Re: Roland Garros - 2019
As a Nadal fan, who should I want out of Fed, Stan, and Tsitsi in the semi?
So far I'm thinking Fed because: a) if Nadal can't beat Fed he won't be able to beat Djokovic anyway. b) Nadal beating Fed would give him the most confidence ahead of final (rafa doesn't rate tsitsi at all, and has already crushed stan in madrid, meanwhile he worships fedr) c) even if nadal fed was a 4-5 setter, he would lose less energy than against tsitsi or stan because fed shortens the points.
On the other hand Fed is the most likely to beat Nadal, simply because he has far more variety than Stan and Tsitsi, but due to point a) that is irrelevant really.

Re: Roland Garros - 2019
Also I think Nadal has made some changes to his game since he last played Fed. To compensate for the fact he's got even slower, he has made some improvements on serve, and he's hitting his shots with more pace. I want to see how Fed deals with that, not just on clay but also on grass and HC, would be interesting.

It's been a while!
For once tennis on the mainstream. Tried Amazon Prime. The reliability and coverage is quite shocking. Means now I am not watching so much tennis.
Tuned in for Tsits/Stan. Humdinger of a match for sure. Even though Tsits lost the first set, fancy him for the match.
Glad to see Federer gracing these courts again. Seems to be working his way through the tournament quite nicely.

Re: Roland Garros - 2019
Fed all done in 3 easy sets. Looked very good, but Mayer did not challenge him at all. The real tournament starts in the next round.
I was hoping Fed would reach at least QF. If he loses next round, I will feel like the tournament was neither a disaster nor a good result - kind of bare acceptable minimum.
If he reaches SF or better, I am happy. A loss to Rafa in SF would feel bad at the time, but in a bigger scheme of things I would still be quite happy with overall RG outcome.

Tsitsy is like an explosive rubber band. Seems to get himself in unorthodox positions and yet manages to get some purchase on his shots. Stan needs to be absolutely clinical when the moments present themselves.
Like that he breaks back in the second.

Thanks Jahu. I hope all is well.
Tsitsy seems to be trying to do too much. Just use the shot that will bloody win the point.

All good LK, hope there as well
Stan can win this if a little more careful on power and not overcook each shot.
Tsi have to say moves superbly.

Re: Roland Garros - 2019
Stan just has to hang in and hope Tsitsy hits himself out of this. He knows from that TB when he plated the ball middle of the court and Tsitsy fumbled it that he can get tight.
If Stan gets to a TB, you'd have to fancy him given how erratic Tsitsy's serve has been.

Re: Roland Garros - 2019
Stan would be a much easier opponent for Fed. He is not moving all that well, and Fed would exploit it nicely. I am surprised, how little Tsitsipas has been able to take advantage of that. He is getting into these hitting contests with Stan, which is probably what Stan is happiest to see.

Just like that back on serve. Tsitsy's net play so bloody inconsistent. So late to the net at 40-40 and now burnt by the break.
Stan just needs to hold on to his serve and back himself in the TB.

That's the second time in this match that Tsitsy's got himself jammed up like that on a second serve. Move up man.
He is handling the power of Stan, just got to be more clinical.

Stan having a moan to umpire. Conversely Stan you should be docked the first serve for running the clock down? Silly and pointless whinging. Just get on with it.

Stan saves 5 SP, you can't beat him on a power game, need a smart multi-tool game to beat him.
