Re: ATP MASTERS 1000: Paris Bercy
Not but the strings give a lot more pace, angle and depth than he would have with nat gut.
He is the typical type of player that gets a second life in his 30s thanks to having been a top spinner all his life.
Of course without his fitness he woudl not be there either but what I am saying is that with nat gut his shots woudl not pass the net.

Looks like I was right. Ferrer never won a TMS!!!! How weird is that?

Wouldnt you say that applies to all top spinner though?
They wouldnt be half the player they are without the strings?

Yes but that applies more so to him as he probably has the least penetrating shots of the top 20. Tips would be another one.

Re: ATP MASTERS 1000: Paris Bercy
I finally watched the end of the second set match between Murray v JJ and I agree that Murray did not tank this second set. He clearly wanted to close it out.
Murray is ridiculously bulky nowadays. He is 1m90 but he is built like a body builder. In fact he is more impressive than Nadal considering Nadal is shorter.

Re: ATP MASTERS 1000: Paris Bercy
A really refreshing semi-final line up tomorrow:
Starting at 1.30 PM
Simon - Janowicz
Llodra - Ferrer (as things stand Llordra's more likely to be in the final as he is leading a set and a beak up against Querrey, although we've seen the same scenarrio with Nole and he still managed to lose the match)
The first match definitely looks very close and hard to call. All will depend on Simon's returning.
Sadly, I can't see Llodra beating Ferrer tomorrow.

refreshing is also the word used by Barry Cwan to describe Llodra's game and he also mentioned the nat gut v synth gut advantages.
When I said Llodra is one of the most talented player on tour...it's just plain obvious. Who coudl pull shots like he does? He is the opposite of the muscling-the-ball type of players we see at teh very top nowadays.

Don't know, haven't seen the match, in fact haven't seen him play for a while. I do like his volleying and think they are first class, just the rest of his game is not really made for this era. His base-line movement lets him down.

Re: ATP MASTERS 1000: Paris Bercy
It's not only his volleying, it's his drop shots, anticipation, flat SHBH....when he is on song it's beautiful....but it's doing with such spinny balls coming at him thatis difficult....twice as hard as doing it in the 90s.

The best I remember him play is in Bercy 2 years ago. He was rubbish in Davis Cup final just weeks later, though.Tenez wrote:It's not only his volleying, it's his drop shots, anticipation, flat SHBH....when he is on song it's beautiful.

Re: ATP MASTERS 1000: Paris Bercy
Order of play today:
Not Before 2:30 PM
Gilles Simon (FRA)
v
[Q] Jerzy Janowicz (POL)
Not Before 5:00 PM
[4] David Ferrer (ESP)
v
[WC] Michael Llodra (FRA)
----
My preference for the title winner would be:
1. Llodra: It would a delight if he can win this one. What a player he is.
2. Jerzy Janowicz : It would be brilliant if a young qualifier can win a masters.
3. Ferrer: His best chance if he is at all going to win a masters. Still fine.
4. I would rather have the tournament abandoned than seeing Simon holding a masters title.

I know Simon can rattle a few but for me he is not as defensive as he may appear. To start with he is a flat hitter..expt that he doesn't "hit" the ball as much as he "pushes" it. This is why he is pretty defensive but he (certainly used to) hits many flat hard balls too. He just picks his moment. I like the fact he doesn't got for broke all the time. To me he is a better version of Hewitt.
I am with you on 1 and 2.

ditto. I want a llodra JJ final probably with JJ to win as I would love this guy to really mix it up with the big guns.
Then again I am a big llodra fan and it would be great to see him go against the grain with his style of play and win.
Happy either way i guess

JJ saves the tennis. . Nothing could be worse than watching a talent-less hope-for-errors pusher looking to win a Masters level event. Really enjoyed the match.
The whole match was played on JJ's terms, who didn't even face a BP. Very well played.

It could be interesting but I suspect no longer possible. After his exploits this week, Jerzy is likely to be seeded at the AO.gallery play wrote:Wouldn't it be hilarious if Nadal gets Janovics first round AO?

Yes I am happily surprised JJ won that semi.
Llodra has been playing fantastic also, better in my view but can he sustain it v relentless Ferrer?

Looks like its going to be over in 2sets. Llodra will rue missing those 10 BP in the 1st set.

Re: ATP MASTERS 1000: Paris Bercy
A good final lined up. JJ looks very confident for someone as low on experience at this level. He is hungry and really wants to win. Ferrer almost got out of jail when Llodra wasn't able to convert any of those 10 BPs in the first set. He too looks focused to win his first masters.
Exciting final.

Tips!
Ferrer has spoiled that weeked and tournament by taking out Llodra and JJ. I actually like Ferrer even though I dislike his game so much. It's a typical spaniard game, without great technical skills and creativity but so effecient under pressure cause his margins are pretty good.
I think JJ showed that fresh he coudl have done it but a couple of 20 strokes rallies killed his legs and game.
