It's Djoko's BH that I find pretty weak and cost him the USO.
Didn't it use to be a good shot?

Ouahhhh....NITB you missed what was probably the key of teh first set. Djoko 40/0 up on his serve then loses it with 5 stupid UEs in a row.
Smashes his racquet to piecs.

Djo wins 2nd set 7-6 (11) saving 5 MPs on the way. I like watching Murray. He is quite entertaining to watch when he is cursing and abusing himself . The best ones when he hits himself on the head. ha hahaha..

Well another day another dollar.
Murray should good signs with the FH. Just lacked the execution and mental focus to see the match out when he had the chances.
Kudos to Nole. His head looked gone after the first set. Looking much better than he did at the US Open. Did a lot of damage with his returns.
In general, for every 1-2 winning shots each player plays you get 5-6 laborious rallies. It takes the sting out of the match for me.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: SHANGHAI, THE FINAL
Congratulations to Nole! And Nitb!
Didn't watch the match live as I lose interest after Fed is out usually and when I'm expecting long matches with super long rallies but watched a replay of the match and only a few bits: Murray serving for the match in 2nd set, 2nd set TB after 9-9, as well as the end of the match after Nole broke in the decider.
Nole showed courage and some aggressive shots when needed. Seemed Murray played also more aggressive when needed and came to the net. Saw a few nice drop shots, so maybe it was a good match at times.
Anyways, if Nole finishes the year at #1, he will totally deserve it. Of course I'd prefer Fed to do so, but hey, Nole is definitely 2nd best candidate for that! By the way, how come he's not playing Basel?!

Re: ATP Masters 1000: SHANGHAI, THE FINAL
Ouahhh....just checked the score!!!
I am very surprised. I lft it at 40/15 5/4 Murray serving for the match with 2 SPs. I come back and read this!
Thinking that Murray had won I was going to write how surprised I was to see Djoko threw his first set away by 5 stupid UEs in a row.
Frankly Djoko shoudl have never lost that first set in this manner anyway.
I only saw bobs and bits of the second but I would resume it as Murray has a much better BH than Djoko, is even more gutsy on his BH than Djoko while on the FH its the other way around. Djoko is also a bit more gutsy on his second serve and those small differences is what really separates them.
I would also say that Djoko is leaner and is therefore likely to do better in 3 and 5 setters. The USO was not a good reflection of that cause he had 3 sets played the day before which certainly made the difference in the 5th.

Very surprised? Oh, Tenez, when will you learn....The minute I left, he squandered the 40:love lead, The minute I returned Nole started winning .
This was a huge win for Novak, and I'm very happy he fought it out, sheer steel and determination, you can't buy that!

I am expecting a seven-hour slug-fest at AO 2013. (3 hours 21 minutes for 232 points - Average 1.15 pts/minute, 5 hours 53 minutes for 369 points AO 2012 final - Average 1.04 pts/minute).
@Veejay - Slams are now approaching TdF, so I expect 'doping' to rise like Cycling. . THASP will be very busy in the coming years. You may want to consider donating so they can have enough resources to store all that is available currently on their web-site.

But should not this sheer steel will and determination be used to win more comfortably? Cause there what Djoko does is exploit the difficulty that it can be to cross the line especially when you believe you have already crossed it. Djoko is in effect robbing Murray's set and Djoko then has the advantage of playing someon who has the feeling to have been robbed. Murray is actually good at doing the same thing to others so I don;t mind the result today but to me this is not the way a match should ideally unfold. It's good it happens cause it is fun in a way...but that does say more about Murray than Djoko's will and determination.

Novak's more comfortable when pressed against the wall, just the way he is. He plays most aggressively then against great defenders like Murray.
At the end of the day he won the match, took things in his hands with the game he plays. You should've seen Federer yesterday, got pinned to the baseline on his backhand completely helpless, ventured to the net twice.

I rad Federer was serving very poorly so difficult to venture to the net besides it's absolutely hopeless to go the net against players like Murray and Djoko. Conditions do not favour SVing.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: SHANGHAI, THE FINAL
Nitb has a point here. Fed could learn a bit from watching how Nole come back to win the match as after all Fed was in the exact same position in his semi against Murray, losing the first set by one break difference and Murray serving for the match at 5-4, so Nole showed it was still possible to win from that position, plus for Fed, it went indoors at that moment, so really no excuse!

Nice to see Nole doing a Federer
I saw that point earlier but I still prefer the point that Fed won when Murray had his 6th or 7th BP in the game Fed saved in the 2nd set vs. Murray, was gutsier and with much more pressure against Fed...

But my point is that no one really wants to be in that position (5MPs down). Luck at first is what can sort it out. If a couple of desperate winners are pulled and they go in, then suddenly it rattles the player in the lead and can reverse the situation as the rest of the match is played with lots of frustration from that player.
Federer was never going to do what Djoko does cause Federer simply can't play those long rallies.

Th gutsy play is not the hot, but the shots before that. To me a gutsy play applies when on critical moments not when the match is virtually over.
A gutsy player swings freely from the beginning not when he has nothing left to lose.

People who go into a match with a happy-go-lucky mode aren't necessarily gutsy.
Djokovic plays high risk tennis in the crucial moments, which I think takes incredible guts.
And match point down Djokovic has potentially everything to lose.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: SHANGHAI, THE FINAL
What was crucial for Djoko was to hold his serve at 5 all 40/0 in that first set. It was also crucial to win break at 5/6 down not to be a set down. It was crucial not to lose his serve in the second set. In a tennis match unless you are 7/5 5/4 30/0 up everything prior is crucial!Amritia3ee wrote:[Djokovic plays high risk tennis in the crucial moments, which I think takes incredible guts.

ATP tour is a group of PROFESSIONAL tennis players. Just because someone smiles or jokes losses away doesn't mean they don't care about them It's just the way they deal with it.
