Pella reminds me so much Gasquet.
The way he looks, the way he talks.

Poor result for Edmund. Should've started with Evans.

Yes really bizarre they chose Edmund over Evans.

I don't think Murray is mentally weak.Daniel wrote:Mentally weak pusher is always going to lose when Del Potro brings anywhere near his A game.
From memory, Delpo has never been a problem for him in the past.
But now Delpo's improved his serve and FH and similar to Stan become a mature, confident shotmaker - able to play his game.
No panic.

Really? I don't remember the last time another player went mad because of a moth - or screamed at his corner all match - or lost their head over one let call.

Yes but Andy has 3 slams and many 1000s, including 2 olympic golds despite being a weak pusher.
Like all retrievers they are strong mentally cause they are strong physically and the mental stress is on the opponent to take the risk.
Murray, like most other retrievers are weak mentally when they need to pull the trigger on big points. This is well documented in all those matches. but this is why they are retrievers in the first place. They simply don't have the guts but they put all their mental strength in hanging on, not making mistakes.

and that's the difference really isn't it? del potro really goes for his shots, where as murray under pressure plays not to lose the point, rather then to win the pointTenez wrote:Yes but Andy has 3 slams and many 1000s, including 2 olympic golds despite being a weak pusher.

surprising to see both del potro and murray playing doubles after their marathon match yesterday, should be interesting to see who runs out of gas first.it wil be a little harder to see playing doubles

Good to see Murray amd Delpo playing doubles, Mac was right when he said B grade players get away with winning slams in doubles these days (Brian Brothers!!!), singles players bring so much more quality...with the exception of Leander Peas - he is fantastic.
Shame top players can't play more doubles these days, but completely understandable.

Mind you, Leonardo Mayer is useless as a doubles player....no idea how to position himself at the net.

so the murrays survive...
I cant see del potro losing tomorrow so I expect Argentina to knock GB out

Re: Davis Cup 2016: Semi-Final
Murray bros were better, thanks to the little brother A. - very good doubles player!
Frenchies make two cheap mistakes and lose 3rd set TB. First PH Herbert nets an inexplicable 2nd serve FH return, anfter that Mahut takes the ball flying out with a defensive volley and that's it...
Crowd terrible, hopefully will take the next.
Very close match.

Disappointing match from Mahut and esp Herbert.
I can't believe they are ranked number ine doubles team.
The French will need a miracle tomorrow...let's see if Noah can ressurect the spirit.

Very disappointing indeed. I'd ve fancied a 5th rubber between Coric and Pouille.

Doubles is a very limited game anyway. One dimensional. I always get beat at local club by the same 3 players, but it's the other way around in Singles, where they can't just hog the net and cut off all the tactics and variety.

Drama. MTO for Murray.
PS. LS if you are on 606V2, Norman isn't the GOAT of tennis coaches. Cahill, Annacone, Stefanki might have something to say on that.

Absolutely agree. Going 2-0 after the first day. A position I think no-one expected. Delpo didn't need to play doubles. As you say. Rest him as he would easily finish off Evans or Edmund.
Poor captaincy.

they all managed to get injured almost at the same time.. Tsonga, Monfils, Simon.. all of them.. Even Mahut has been carrying an injury.. so yesterday's performance is understandable.Veejay wrote:thats really surprising cause the French have so many good players to choose fromlegendkillar wrote:Croatia through to the final. well it seems like del potro was his own undoing which will ultimately cost argentina a place in the finallegendkillar wrote:Veejay wrote:the argentines have made such a mess of this weekend, dont know why del potro played doubles,he should have rested yesterday and played the singles match today

Poor captaincy.
the team captain should have refused to allow him to play the doubles match no matter how much he wanted to play it

Re: Davis Cup 2016: Semi-Final
Maybe Delpo's body could not take another singles match.
After all, it was nearly 5 hours against Murray on Friday.
At least we get to see a good 5th rubber and two SBH-ers.
Mayer has better FH & serve, but looks a bit nervous.
This is not a done deal for GB at all.

I don't like his game at all. Muscles everything. Grinds you down.
You've asked me this before.
My fave players are Feds, Stan, Dolgo, Dustin Brown, Thiem to name but a few.

Fair enough....surely you want the Brits to win today....it's not so much about players but nations here.

Evans just buckling under the weight of expectation. A trait that runs like a yellow streak through British sport. Unless of course you ride a bike!

Ye, I want them to win but not that fussed. Tennis is a sport I am not very patriotic about.
