Re: Davis Cup 2016: Semi-Final
When I was on holiday in France last week, one guy I spoke to was holding much hope in the fact Noah was their captain.
Apparently, he makes things happen.
Mainly his philosophy of: veni, vidi, vici.
I'd like ro see Argentina - France final as both countries have been trying to win it so hard for so many years.
Argentina - because of Delpo, plus they never won it.
France - because DC would be a deserved trophy for this talented slamless generation of players.

i dont think that argentina stands much of a chance really especially if murray is playing, but i think that france has a legitimate chance to win the davis cup this year

Yes, tough for Argentina esp as they are playing away.Veejay wrote:i dont think that argentina stands much of a chance really especially if murray is playing, but i think that france has a legitimate chance to win the davis cup this year
Delpo will need to beat Murray, act bith his singles matches plus another win in singles, Brits' doubles team is stronger.
But it's Davis Cup, so anything is possible!

Murray-Delpo will be a BIG one. That should mostly decide who goes to the finals.

Re: Davis Cup 2016: Semi-Final
that will definitely be the highlight of the weekend but if murray were to loose that match i think that GB could still make the finals as popular opinion has them favourite for doubles and the other matchesraiders_of_the_lost_ark wrote:Murray-Delpo will be a BIG one. but of course its sport and anything can happen

Don't know about that. For me it's the Doubles. If Argentina are to win, they need to win that rubber. Given Edmund/Evans recent form, I don't see Delbonis/Mayer doing much.
For GB not to retain, a moment of sheer inspiration from somewhere.

Noah annoys me.
But what I am really interested in is whether they will ask Pouille to play.
It's a huge pressure but we know how Monfils reacts to pressure. At least we can give Pouille a trial.

I too am not a fan of middle-aged freshly tattooed Peter Pan wannabes, BUT, Noah has a happy vibe about him...give me that any day over gutless, brow-beaten, complex of inferiority Gasquet/Clement etc... types.
Noah was watching Pouile-Nadal match on the edge of his seat and you cluld see he loved what he saw.
I don't think Lucas will crack under pressure, but it will be in
teresting to see him play for France.
I just hope wretched Monfils brings his disciplined, boring new self for the first match.

Well....no Tsonga, no Monfils!!! It's Gasquet and Pouille trying to sort it out.
Should be interesting for sure....but a really tough one versus Cilic and Coric. ....I thought Gasquet was injured.

Re: Davis Cup 2016: Semi-Final
Yes, shame Simon has been injured for a while, too, Pouille and he could be a great singles Davis Cup tandem.
Tsonga, Monfils and Gasquet are utter losers.
Croatia playing in Zadar, which alongside Split is the most nationalistic (read nazi) hotspot in the country.
Good luck to the Frenchies!
Glad I saw Eurosport is showing Argentina-GB.
Go Delpo!!!
Any links for France- Croatia?
Pouille-Cilic is a must watch

Argentina has no chance here. delpo has half an hour to run around hs BH...
The surface is slower than Rio.
Should be illegal!

Delpo breaks!
Playing really well, able to hit through even this snail coirt, though mainly throush angles via inside out FH.
Great BH slice, too.
Murray not bad, just having to work hard as he can't afford to muscle the ball too much.

What feels like a 50 shot rally of Murray's topspin CC BH into Delpo's slice.
When chips are down that's what Murray's DBH tennis is anout.
Delpo keeps his head cool and wins the rally with Murray netting a BH.
VAMMOOOOSSS!!!

very impressive first set from del potro, murray simple had no answers lol
this could be revenge for the olympics
del potro is clearly a very patriotic athlete and seems to give far more when playing for his country then he does just playing for himself

Murray's fitness coach cheering:"let's go Andy, here we go!" rather unconvincingly...he's probably scared to breathe in Murray's presence after years of verbal abuse during matches...

Yes, same as Russians... Olympic gold or Davis/Fed cup means more than a slam.
Many would write it off as "primitive", but I think it's nice to have that feeling of belonging.
It's more a strong sense of brotherhood than anything else.
Different, warm race.

Re: Davis Cup 2016: Semi-Final
The pace between the 2 semis is so different. Delpo and Murray taking ages...compared to Gasquet Coric.
Also I fear the Brits have made the mistake to choose a slow surface for Murray whereas Delpo can hit through the pace, Murray can't.
Unless banks on the long rallies and a 5th gruelling set.

Enjoying Delpo's elegant gliding FH.
Another player who has benefited from aging his timing.
Which brings me to a puzzle:
How come Fed's FH has got worse with years?
He must be the only player whose FH has not got better.

It's very simple why. Cause the surface and strings and learnt his FH with has considerably changed over the years. So he has had to drop his attacking FH for a safer less risky one.
But when the surface is fast, his FH is still there as we saw in Cincy, Shanghai or Dubai a few times versus Djoko and others....despite having to time balls much spinier than in pre-2007.

Just got hold of Pouille-Cilic, only to see it's 6:1 to Cilic!
Hopefully the second set will be more competiive.

Still, his BH has got better.
He is not taking advantage of timing, it's been quite a while now.

Re: Davis Cup 2016: Semi-Final
Pouille looks a little bit overwhelmed and tight, no 1st serve.
Still, good to see him again, some breathtaking FHs, plus don't know why - takes me right back to my beach holiday mode!
Probably because I was there when I watched him beat Nadal and it was such an intense experience.
Also, too far back when returning.
When it comes to Pouille's career, no rush. he'll get there.

Pouille broke Cilic back when he was serving for the set and 40:00 up.
Then, quite unlucky to lose TB, the gamble of S&V didn't pay off.
Still, played well.
Some fantastic, aggressive BHs.
When I watch him play, he makes my heart full!
So happy he turned up on the ATP scene!

Unlike in Rio, Delpo was fresh today and won, that's what made the difference - he is a better player.
Over in Croatia, Pouille wins the the third set 6:2.
He is a better player, too.
Just younger and learning the ropes of the trade.
I love how he competes, reminds me of Monika Seles - he just plays points and ploughs on, ALLEEEEEEZZZ!
ps

Right on spot. Murray has been extremely lucky with both his Olympic golds.. having an exhausted opponent.
