Yes I thought of that.
But in 2009 I think exhaustion was the reason (super Sat) but I certainly don't think exhaustion was the reason for that poor serving yesterday. I'll have a better look at this first set again cause this is where it all went wrong.
I think he thought had the win after he took the third set. After that his
intensity dropped a little and Delpo must have figured "it's now or never"
and this enthusiasm sucked all the energy out of Fed.
Anyway, i wasn't bothered at all when i found out about the QF result. Those days
are long gone. Like you said recently on JA: his work is completed,
certainly from a fan POV. Any win from here is a bonus but not necessary
at all. He must feel the same way so motivation is definitely the
challenge from now on and it shows: first there was the sensation of not
being disappointing after the lost OG final, then we hear him talk
about finding the right goals, and now he said something vague about his
priorities. Nevertheless: i still enjoy watching him play (more so than the
period 2008-2010) and looking forward to the indoor season.

Re: US open 2012: Matches of the Day: Day 10
Reg USO 2009, I think Fed thought he had the win in the 2nd set when he had balls to go 2 breaks up. That's when he got a tad arrogant, confident. But I think this is where he started to feel it physically. In those first 2 sets he had to cover lots of ground rapidly due to Delpo's fast pace and though Fed made it look easy to lead a set up and nearly 2 breaks up tiredness started to show there. He grabbed the 3rd set but the damage was done. He fought hard in that 4th but the footwork needed to retrieve Delpo's shots and more importantly to keep Delpo on his toes had left Federer, so Delpo started to dictate in that 4th. The 5th was clearly Fed collapsing physically.
But as you say I am not really bothered by his losses. More bothered by those ups and downs as though I love to watch him play, it's not quite the same watching a great game coming second best, or like yesterday watching teh serve being pushed and Berdych getting pleasure smacking them back thinking he is playing great.
Fed's interview alludes to some issues independant of Berdych. Not sure what they are but certainly something did not not click.
