Should Nole play in Madrid?

My view whether Nole should play in Madrid is clear, if he is healthy he definitely should. He needs to get used against the most hostile crowds when he can play (Spain is worse than in IW) and surely RG will not be much better. I also think that Nole is one, who will obtain more from their matches before RG even if he loses there.

Nole likes the biggest challenges and therefore he just will play. He keeps Nadal firmly in his fist on the court and there is nothing what Nadal can change it in his game much, except his juice. Nole will not surely underestimate Nadal in case that they will meet at RG and I am convinced that another heavy defeat on clay would would mix up with Nadal’s head nicely. If Nadal doesn’t win in Madrid, he will not have any big clay title in this season before Rome, which will be quite embarrassing position for him.

Nole doesn’t have to win anything before RG, he has already done it in MC. He should play freely, focus on some details in his game and be in a positive mood. The pressure is on Nadal and his wise uncle Toni.

Yes but being 100% fresh for rafa is key - ergo i would skip madrid for that and it plays v differently compared to RG.

That's an interesting question.

I just had a look at the calendar, Madrid and Rome are back to back.
He's not defending any points in Madrid, the conditions are slightly faster, so on paper he should play.

In my opinion, he's got more to lose than gain there, so I'd skip it if I were him.

I don't think he should just go and take it easy.

He needs to either go and win the whole thing, rub it in the local mob's face or don't turn up at all and boycott them.

It's a win-win situation.

I'd say he should skip Madrid...and let nadal get drained. But for RG, what really matters is how you get to the final....what happened 2 weeks before has less of an effect.

Being fresh is actually being superjuiced for Nadal. He will surely find some orange juices in his cabinets. It is not easy to advice whatever, it depends how Nole feels, how is his body and composure. My current view is that Nadal's game has discovered his biggest weaknesses recently and would be nice to see another heavy loss from Nole in front of his home crowds. But even if Nole lose in Madrid, then there is still Rome, and the winner from Rome will start RG as a favorite. But who knows, when two rivals focus on each other, someone third can surprise.

No as in Djoko needs to be 100% when he plays rafa at RG. When. I'm that confident.

Nole likes playing with Nadal and completely owns him, so there is no chance he let him play in forecourt. Another heavy Nadal's loss in Madrid would be quite something. Btw Nadal is obsessed his h2h. There are just two things I am afraid of before RG, firstly that Nole will be too focused on Nadal and can have hard times with other players and the second is that conditions at RG can be very difficult, i.e. windy, very slow clay and balls, just tailor made for Nadal.
I hope that Nole's coaches are aware of his fitness and are discussing his schedule very carefully.

Being well composed will be also a big key. Stamina and composure are working closely together.

Great confidence and composure can effect game very much. Another point is that organizers can make conditions favorable for a player quite a lot.

Fognini will not be in Nadal's half at RG for sure.

It would be really annoying if he goes for Madrid and then does his wrist or ankle before Rome and RG. Skip it and lose early in Rome, you've won enough masters this year Whistle

That is right, enough Masters and just to focus on RG. But when confidence and game is there and body holds together why don't destroy Nadal again and again. There is never enough Nadal's losses Winking

Yes, there is a risk that Nole's head wants to play and doesn't listen to his body. Hopefully this will not be this case.

Looks like Nole is playing Madrid...he is scheduled to represent his charity there on the 1st of May ( with S. Williams).

The decision is not definite yet, but Nole will make an announcement at the end of the week when he goes to Madrid for his joint Foundation event with S. Williams.

What makes you think he never will? I am pretty sure he will. It's one thing to snub when you have a good points cushion but it is another thing when you needs the points and money.

He loathes the people & entire event.
Being highly emotional and sensitive it's hard for him to play well there now after all that happened.

I don't think he'd just turn up for the sake of it at this stage of his career.

I know why he plays like does, as well....but I also know he's earnt enough to indulge himself with snubbing Madrid, and that it would give him a lot of pleasure to do so.

It's a Serbian national trait to stand up to things and people even if it's at our cost.

Consequences have been severe, but people there would not have had it any other way.

Same with this Madrid thing...he could still play there but the fact he boycotted it last year says a lot.

All things considered and I am sure that the decision make a real sense. Just now we can hope that someone else will be able to sweep out the court with Nadal nicely. They need to have the central court clean in Madrid.
