Tennis News
We haven't heard much about Rafael Nadal since the legendary Rosol performed the Wimbledon R2 miracle and sent Nadal fishing in Malorca.
One of the things that helped him win the match was that he refused to ply on Nadal's terms.
Seems, Jim Courier is taking a leaf from Rossy's book :
"U.S. Davis Cup captain Jim Courier says that when the United States travels to Spain for their
Davis Cup semifinal in September, he will not concede to Rafael Nadal's
compulsive on-court routines when it affects American players. One of
Nadal’s habits is that he will not get off his chair until his opponent
does so.
"I’ve never see anyone do that to him. He is always the
last off the bench,” Courier said at Stanford's Bank of the West
Classic, where he defeated Michael Chang
in an exhibition. "I have nothing but respect for Rafa; I love the way
he plays, I love the way handles his business, but if I'm coaching
against him. I’m not letting my player get up until he gets up. It’s as
simple as that. He’s got to know that this is not his court, it’s our
court. Those are tactics.”

Re: Tennis News
I remember Fed did the same during one Wimbledon. He sat on the bench until Nadal got up. It was a bit unnerving to watch and sad, too.
I'm so glad the humble PR facade is slowly wearing off (for the masses, that is).

And why we went to wage war on Irak despite everybody with a brain knowing there was no WMD there...including Blair and Bush!

Re: Tennis News
$$ might be the reason, but it doesn't explain how there was no more manifestation in the UK and US. I went to my first manifestation of my life there and it was huge but not nearly enough. However Murddock managed to reelect them both single handedly. Not that they were better on the other side (they woudl have done the same thing), but at least we had the duty to punish them and kick the guilty out.
And any lesson learnt? no way we went on to wage more wars in Lybia and now trying our best in syria financing the rebels. Of course we are the goodies teaching the world democracy! Anyway. let's not try to be too political here. I should probably delete those posts.

No, not really. tbh MTL is quite an established forum, so it will be really tough to get members from there. This will remain more or less confined to loyalists like me and you which is not a bad thing. In all fairness, you wouldnt want Amrita, HE, Lydian to post here, no?
For sure

nah....I know them all well from the old 606...never intended to pinch anyone (which was clearly stated in the article anyway) , just invited them to post here on topics they don't cover, which there are quite a few. One of the reasons I am NOT there in the first place. Too social and not enough tennis for me.
Yes, I've always been noleisthebest and have never changed the name. I have no plans to do it , either

Re: Tennis News
Just in case anyone doubted :
"Rafael Nadal is unsure whether his sore knee will be at 100 percent by the time London Olympics begin. After being upset by Lukas Rosol in the second round of Wimbledon, Nadal pulled out of a exhibition against Novak Djokovic in Spain to rehabilitate the injury. He won the gold medal in 2008.
"I am doing everything possible to recover," Nadal told the Spanish press. "After Roland Garros I had a difficult time, but the excitement is at its maximum, I am working as hard as I can and hopefully I will be at 100 percent. I am the one who is most worried. I hope that things improve and my intention is to arrive in London well prepared and recuperated. It is for this that I work every day. Carrying the flag will be something unforgettable."

Re: Tennis News
Just read an amazing interview Ljubicic gave to local Croatian newspaper. He basically said that Nadal lobbied against Ljubicic's appointment for a member on the ATP players' council.
Ljubicic said after Nadal resigned from the Players Council (after Miami), he ocntinued to ferociously push for his candidate and against Ljubicic.
He says Nadal led the campaign against him and that was the reason he was not elected.
He also said he didn't now why the Spaniard carried on like that, but suspects it was because of Ljubicic's friendship with Federer.
"Maye he didn't like it when I said I wanted to see Roger win RG back in 2006. Maybe he doesn't like I have a good relationship with Roger...maybe those are just stories... they have always had a reasonable relationship, but you are never going to see the two of them go out for dinner."
Giorgio di Palermo was elected instead of Ljubicic.

Re: Tennis News
Very interestig piece of news. I think a lot has to do with Ljubicic wanting to bring tennis back to more regulations, including doping and time between points.
It is such a disgrace. Ljubo was really a smart guy and above all an honest guy.
Nadal like his game is such a negative person.

Yes, that is very scary. NO wonder media milk it for all their might.
I mean if you can swallow that disgusting, cheap, nasty, pathetic "song" video with Shakira (who on earth is Shakira!!!???) then, it certainly won't matter if he has a jar of that "health food shop" powder for breakfast lunch and dinner every day...

yes, the smothering type.
In all fairness, I am not upset with her even though she was stabbing me in the back onv2 and moaned to mods about my smileys when Nole beat Nadal on clay in Madrid (I thought that was the most important win for Nole last year, contrary to popular belief tat it was Wimbledon), following Nadal and other Spanish players is obviously what gets her going and puts a smile on those thin lips.
I'll never understand, but I'm not all that bothered anymore.
There were times when things were unpleasant on the old 606 (did they actually ban you there, I can't remember now), and there were definitely some even more aggressive characters.
One day I'm sure all Nadal's stuff will come out in the wash, but I don't think they'll care even then.

Listen: I dare say Nadal really is a lovely man (though I refuse to say lad). But the point I’m trying to make is, whether he is or isn’t I wouldn’t know, and you wouldn’t either. He lives within this tight stockade of team Rafa, and sticks to the script his minders have written for him.
--------------------------------------------------------
Interesting. It's too long...I read the first 10 paragraph and the last last 3. The above sums it up well for me.

I'm just reading it again now, it's brilliant!
It was very pertinent when it came out, now that the "slippery slope" is in sight, it doesn't look that urgent.
However, that Ljubicic interview really threw some light on what goes on behind the scenes, disgusting!
I think we'll be seeing more and more off it this and next year.

You provided articles, I argumented. I am pretty sure teh mods did not mind it most of teh time but they were constantly sollicited cause they kept on pushing the complain button.
Anyway, I had 2 great desires in tennis those last 6 years:
1 - To see Federer break every record which he did (ecause he simply deserves it)
2 - See Nadal ending up with less slams than he currently has. (Like Armstrong might end up with 0 TDF).
1 is completed. 2 might happen one day.

Re: Tennis News
Ljubicic must feel gutted, fancy having someone like that (Giorgio di Whomeverheardofhim)other guy be thought as worthier than poor old Looby! I mean what credentials did he present that beat Ljubicic's? That he swoons over Nadal in Vogue :x , obviously....makes you wonder what goes on behind closed doors.
It just shows how deeply corrupted ATP is and that there's not plenty to look forward to.
Ljubicic is good friends with Nole and I hope Nole picks the right side in that game.
