Wimbledon Day 4, Thursday 4th July
Nadal v. Kyrgios - classic grudge match that kick starts a flat tournament, or damp squib? Nobody knows which Kyrgios will turn up, least of all him. Let’s hope he’s having a good night’s sleep and does himself justice because Nadal almost certainly will.
Federer’s campaign continues vs. plucky Brit Clarke
Nice to see Baghdatis on No. 2, and Kvitova on No. 1. Women’s draw showing how many more interesting contenders and stories it has these days with Barty on show as well as Williams S and Kerber.
More Brits cluttering up Centre, Norrie vs. Nishi, then Konta.
Andy Murray’s doubles match on a court tbd not before 5:30pm. I hope he has a good run.

Re: Wimbledon Day 4, Thursday 4th July
I do look forward to Rafa-Kyrgios and hope that the best Kyrgios turns up...Nadal will be very raw on grass so no reason why this should not be an instant classic.
Bearing in mind how vain Kyrgios is, I don't know how he is going to live down a potential loss...it's almost out of the question.
So....bring it on!
p.s.
I wonder who is going to have the pleasure of umpiring this!
p.p.s.
Nole is the best!
p.p.s.
Max, I hope you are not dead..yet. Mary

It will be over before you can blink if Kyrgios turns up. Nadal is a one dimensional pusher.

FOR ROTLA...
Here is teh first example of possibly TDs not helping Federer but Rafa. Not saying it is intentional but we are sure of one thing is that on the conds they are not doing their best to help aggressive tennis.
Fed confirms what I have been saying is that the balls and not the courts are the real problem. However longer watered grass can so quickly make the court just faster.
Federer wrote:
Q. You mentioned the court was slow. Other players made similar comments. Is it the slowest you remember in the recent past? Do you think this could be a disadvantage given your game style? Is it just a matter of getting used to it?
ROGER FEDERER: Well, I was also thinking during the game if it was the slowest ever. But then I was, like, probably not. It's probably me that is moving like a snail out here (smiling).
Over time, I get nine aces at the end, I know Lloyd maybe wasn't moving all that well anymore. I started to pick up my rhythm. Things started to become more normal.
I mean, one thing is for sure: the people who do the job here on the grass courts, they do an amazing job. They make this court so perfect. It actually becomes a bit too simple to play off the baseline.
I do believe, and I felt for years, that the ball is not a very lively ball. It's more of a heavy ball. It doesn't really just go 'whew,' unless it's really hot, then the ball goes a bit. We are in England. It's not like we have the super heat over here, unless we get the African super wave coming.
I feel like it's a bit of everything. I have to get used to it. I definitely think Wimbledon has not been the fastest overall. If you look at rally length, US Open is shorter rallies on average than Wimbledon. That tells you the story a little bit.

Lets hope big hitters fall fast, Fed from usual half a step slow to nearly a step slow on mega shots his way.

Fed making UEs due to trying to hit through the dead conds.

When it gets easy to retrieve smashes on grass, you know you are playing with sponge balls.

If Cilic loses and useless Kyrgios shows up, Rafa's draw will start looking much easier. A cakewalk even.

Loads of them - you get the feel that, whilst not playing disrespectfully, Fed does not fear his opponent and knows that this match is very firmly on his racquet. His footwork looks a bit more lazy than usual to me.

Cilic was never a threat, cannot you people use simple knowledge of professional sports and current form? Cilic clearly came to Wimbledon in bad form, so why be surprised? I told @DEC1M8-ed brain from the get go Cilic was not a threat and should not even be considered as the most likely opponent for Rafa in R4summerblues wrote:If Cilic loses and useless Kyrgios shows up, Rafa's draw will start looking much easier. Have not seen any tennis this week yet - Fed or otherwise. But Fed's scores thus far are not encouraging for his chances.

Fed seems to want to keep himself on court longer, gets the 2nd set on TB, taking this match as a warm up I guess.

In the tie-breaker Fed upped his standard a tiny bit, from well below par to a bit less below par, and started wiping the floor with his opponent, which he has carried over into the third set to go 2-0.

Forget Nadal’s R4 potential, he’s going home today so it’s irrelevant.

Nadal fucking around with delays, walking like he is in the park first left than right giving his towels when Nick ready to serve, what a fucking prick this fuck is.

Kyrgios quite right to make the point that Nadal is getting away with murder wasting time between points and not playing to the speed of his serving. If he can stay in the match (no, me neither), speed of play is how to get Nadal rattled.

Re: Wimbledon Day 4, Thursday 4th July
On those slow courts Nadal can even be aggressive v Kyrgios. 5 years ago he was simply scared by the pace.
It is so sad that after over10 years of complaining of slow Wimbledon,...they keep slowing it down.
I know some of you complain about the French...but frankly Wimbledon is a disgrace nowadays. And if not watered, the second week will be even slower than the French.

Woulda coulda shoulda - for someone who has wanted Nadal to lose every game I've watched him play without exception this is all too familiar.

As long as Kyrgios is not being wound up by Nadal's time-keeping he's definitely doing the right thing making a point about it.

What on earth is wrong with an underarm serve? That last one nearly made Kyrgios look pretty silly.
He knows how to get under Nadal's skin - but that's a pretty high stakes tactic.

Re: Wimbledon Day 4, Thursday 4th July
I love watching someone giving Nadal a bit of hustle - he really doesn't like it - although it has to be combined with a very high quality of play to work.
I saw a brief Fed interview and he was asked what he thought of Nadal and he said 'intense' on Court and, in effect, good as gold off it. Most players allow Nadal to play his games with his 'intensity' and when guys like Kyrgios get in amongst it he really doesn't like it.
