The Name is Bond....James Bond!
I found out in the gym yesterday that the latest James Bond is coming out in my local cinema on Friday! The instructor, as the theme song started playing (she usually plays something slow for the cool-down) just whispered, big-eyed and mysterious: It's James Bond!
The class burst out laughing and started checking out who's going and when etc....
50 years of it made sure we all had something in common: favourite Bond, Bond girl, song, baddie, gadget, favourite line, scene, car.....the topics are endless!
Even my tennis club is hosting a James Bond themed Christmas party and I'm going
Whether you are a fan or not, 007 does not leave you indifferent.
So to mark the 50th anniversary and the release of the latest film, Skyfall, what are your memories anecdotes related to 007?

You seem to be a big James Bond fan. I have watched some of the movies mostly the newer ones.
Skyfall?? I'll watch it on DVD or when it comes on TV. May not go to the theatre.

Actually I"m not a fan at all, but I d like the old ones, the Lazenby and Connery ones.
In my academic/cultural snobbery years I wouldn't be caught dead seeing any of the newer ones...then you just see it for what it is and have a laugh about it all

Re: The Name is Bond....James Bond!
I used to be a Bond fan as a teenager. But now my 9 year old son is a fan so i'm obliged to go out to see Skyfall with him. He even fancies the slow old ones and that's remarkable because his eyes are used to see fast paced modern productions. If he gets the chance he'll watch three Bonds in a row which off course i, as a responsible parent, would not approve ;-)
My picks:
FAVOURITE FILM:
Connery: Goldfinger and From Russia
Lazenby: only played one Bond but it's a better Bond than many think. I like the location: Schilthorn in Switserland, i've been there.
Moore: the Spy who loved me, i saw it recently though and i can safely say that it's a ridiculous movie
Dalton: licenced to kill
Brosnan: can't remember
Craig: i expect Skyfall to be a decent movie
FAVOURITE BOND: Prob Sean, the original
FAVOURITE BOND GIRL: most of them, if not: all of them
FAVOURITE BADDIE: Christopher Walken, but only because it's the great Walken. The movie itself (view to a kill) was lame
FAVOURITE BOND SONG: Carly Simon - Nobody does it better
FAVOURITE GADGET : ?
FAVOURITE LINE: Shaken not stirred. The story goes that Fleming stole that line and many other “Bond habits” from the Prince Bernard, who was married with the former Queen of Holland
FAVOURITE SCENE:The golf scene in Goldfinger. It takes about 10 minutes which would be impossible these days. Typical sixties Hitchcock paced stuff
FAVOURITE CAR: Lotus: a camp car fits well in a camp movie

Me too had a meal in that revolving restaurant but the biggest joke was that it was so overcast I could not see a single thing through the window , still the champers was good...and roschti, of course!
Amazing they built all that just for that film, yes , that one is probably my second favourite. Grindelwald is really magical, one of the most beautiful places I've seen.
Back to Bond, I also expect Skyfall to be OK, mainly because of Mendes, don't expect anything cheesy to ruin his hard- earnt reputation....
I just hope there aren't too many chases and fake looking fights....nothing beats the dialogue for me, and this one apparently is back to basics when it comes to Bond films, I can only hope so, they really hit dead-end with the last one.
I'll probably go next week, you?

Piz Gloria it is, i was lucky that the sky was bright that day. Have to say the view from there was breathtaking. I enjoyed the trip to the top too, with different kinds of trains and cable cars
Yesterday there was an interview with Mendes on the BBC about the movie. I believe he made sure there's a Mendes twist in it. The relationship between M and Bond is a quite dominant asset of the movie, which should be interesting.
I'll try to go this weekend.

I saw a preview, and the new Q looks really weird....the girl as well, at least at the premiere, not enough finesse....Craig looked more battered than ever, I hope I'm wrong!

Re: The Name is Bond....James Bond!
At laaaaast!
I ticked the box and saw it.
I hate it when everyone tells you: it's brilliant! before the film. Because you know it's not.
Who makes brilliant films these days...
So no....Goldfinger it is not. And does not even pretend to be, which is good and honest.
It does the modern thing: wants to reinvent itself, the same way an old woman knows she can't wear red lipstick & high heels any more.
Skyfall is a tired but fresh beginning for the Bond franchise. (cooo, I feel like I'm writing a proper review here ) .
Poor Mendes had to tick all those atrocioius boxes: the car chase, the politically correct Bond girl, the special effects....but to his credit he didn't kill the film with it. He can call it a film.
Now what did I like?
I liked the fact Sam directed it.
Craig's talkative blue eyes.
The "bad" girl. Gorgeous. Fantastic acting and a few memorable scenes, dialogue and the eyes. Old school.
Baddie was, well bad, but the new age bad: with a psycho problem, which we are all happily media educated to diagnose ourselves. Tick in the box for us!
The new Q...., one has to put up with the moving of time, I suppose. Terrible hair.
Loved the old Aston DB5 cameo appearance.
Interesting, and not unnoticed back to front beginning. Clever.
Was it brilliant? Far from it.
It had moments of brilliance but only thanks to the acting of Craig who really carried the film on his shoulders and the bad girl (don't know her name).
The rest is a blur and a bit of overdone sentimental touch.
Could've been a lot worse
PS
I literally dropped off at one stage. I don't now how long I slept. Can't have been too long with all those rockets and guns going off all the time....

Re: The Name is Bond....James Bond!
Saw Skyfall over the weekend, doesnt live up to the hype
Bond movies never blow me away, the potential to be mind blowing is there but theres always something missing..I think its usually the plot that doesnt gel well for me
Has anyone been following the program "Hunted" on BBC...
Thats really compelling viewing

Re: The Name is Bond....James Bond!
I don't have time for TV....everything is too in your face now and a bit over simplified these days.
I'd rather watch the same old film 50 times than waste two hours on the "lastest big thing" bribed critics are telling me is "a must"
Last thing I saw on TV (IPlayer) was Olympics closing ceremony.

Re: The Name is Bond....James Bond!
I used to the say the same thing till I got tivo, now I watch a lot more t.v
My daily guilty pleasure - Real Housewives of ... I like OC housewives more then NYC housewives...more arguments and confrontation
You CANNOT make this sh**** t up
This program "Hunted" on BBC is along the espionage,MI1/MI6 wave length, but a lot more realistic, kinda like the Bourne trilogy
If only a bond movie had such gripping plot...

Re: The Name is Bond....James Bond!
veejay, if you like spy stuff, I thoroughly recommend the old BBc series: Tinkel Tailor, Soldier Spy as well as The Perfect Spy, makes all this new stuff look like a (bad) joke.
Last "new" MI5/6 show I watched on TV was Spooks, with the gorgeous Adam Carter in it

Re: The Name is Bond....James Bond!
I rarely watched t.v especially anything on the BBC so I have no clue of what youre talking about
The great thing about tivo is you can record the programs you want to watch and watch them later,or watch things on catch up on demand..you can also pause and rewind live t.v so you can plan the programs around your life and schedule rather then plan your life around what time the t.v program starts
I gotta say Im really impressed with this program "Hunted"
Its also shot in London so you recognise the background, the last episode had a scene that was shot along the canal in Regents park where this Chinese restaurant floats like a boat on the water...I only live 5-10 mins walk from there
I was never really a fan of this kind of espionage stuff, but now I may just go for a walk down the canal late at night to see if I can spy on someone
