Rooting for an all-Argentine SF.

I think Rafa is vulnerable this year (relatively speaking, of course) but would have fancied Kev rather than Diego.  Diego is a cheaper version of Nishi or Goffin, and they would have lost to Rafa.  Still, Diego is all we have.  He has to play as aggressive as he can - but no more.

Tenez has it correct with his "critical pace".  I would call it controlled aggression, and that is the best hope for those players who cannot blow him off the court (like Soderling when he is lucky) or who can stay with him in rallies forever (like the late Novak Djokovic, v2, RIP).

Why? With Anderson, Nadal just needed to keep putting an ordinary ball in play, and Anderson would error out. That's what happened at USopen. Kev lacks variety and and consistency. His most potent weapon 'serve' also fails during crunch time. WE saw how it failed against Diego in 4th round when he was serving for the match, and a number of occasions. He doesn't even have great volleys.

Anderson can't beat Nadal, its virtually a walkover. Diego can make some match of it, not win but not give easy points either.

I would like Delpo to have a good chance in SF.

I'd like to see Schwartzman pop in the odd underarm serve, especially if they get to a tie-break - make Nadal feel a doubt about standing way back to receive serve.  As an ABN (Anyone but Nadal) the best I believe I can hope for is that Nadal is made to run around for 4 hard sets before facing an on fire Del Boy in the SF and a fresh Thiem in the final...

Two good matches between genuine heavy-weights on the women's side.  While she's not my favourite player (especially her noises), I am rooting for Halep this RG, I admire her guts and think she deserves at least one slam from her career.

Which leads me to the thought that Tuesday/Wednesday of the second week at US/Aus/RG is one of the many measures of how superior to the other three slams Wimbledon is.  They set the schedule with the integrity of the contest in mind, so that (weather apart) each player has the same gap between their matches.  I think it's embarrassing the way the others purport to occupy the pinnacle of the sport but still horse around with the schedule chasing the $.

Match probably won't get done today due to torrential weather, and yes Diego has one of the best returning stats and worst serving stats on tour, so he's the most tiring player to play against.

Yeah, if only some of these guys had the attitude of a Jmmy Connors. He'd have deployed all the black arts to mess with him.

I do feel for Halep who just can't seem to get over the Slam line despite seemingly being very good.
