Re: Aus Open Day 9:
I know I will be disappointed, but I am somewhat hopeful Cilic might win. Three reasons:
1. I watched some of his match vs Carreno Busta and I was quite impressed how he seemed to manage to combine aggressive hitting with reasonable level of consistency. I thought it was one of the better performances I saw from him recently.
2. I have not been impressed by Rafa at all against Schwartzman. Rafa was not playing very well, nor did he look happy to even be on the court. He lacked his usual expression of undying enthusiasm.
3. Ok, Cilic is a choker par excellence. But I am hoping that last year's Wimbledon's final may help here. No matter what he ever does again on the court, no choke will ever be as embarrassing as being seen by millions of people worldwide whimpering as he was losing to Fed. Hopefully that will now set him free and allow him to conquer his demons.
How about Cilic in 4? Any takers? You guys will need to help him through this match, as I will be fast asleep. I am counting on your hard work.

Chokers don't win slams. It's silly to call a slam winner a choker. Any slam winner.

Re: Aus Open Day 9:
Well well well. Edmund takes the first set. Quite entertaining to watch. They do not mess around, a lot of powerful hitting with quick points. Edmund has improved significantly since the last I saw him. He also looks to me to be in better shape than in the past. I seem to remember him being a little chubby (or am I imagining it?) but no longer.

Does anyone think this Dimi can beat Nadal? How many grueling matching will he have to pass just to face the guy?

Just as I was typing the above.. Dimi loses serve at 4-4 and Edmud holds to win the match in 4..
Who think this Dimi is a better player? Only McEnroe.

If you look at how many matches Cilic has lost being 2-0 sets up and against who all, you won't be saying this. He had a great tournament in USO 2014 where he played nothing like himself.

I don’t fancy Cilic to beat Nadal, maybe press him and possibly even a set, but the game is all over the place now so who can be sure?
There’s no reason that Federer & Nadal couldn’t clean up again this year. Nobody eise seems able to put a game together.

Yup. I would. You are seriously downplaying the bottle and level needed to win even one slam. Additionally, there are many factors for why someone loses from 2-0 up besides nerves.

I know Edmund can hit a good FH....but for me he will never be more watchable that Murray (however much I don’t like Murray’s game).raiders_of_the_lost_ark wrote:I like Edmund's game more than Murray's. Way more. Murray pushed his way to top, not my kind of player.bogbrush wrote:Andy who?
Edmund is boring and plain, his tennis is dull cardboard, even his tiny nose is a kind of reflection of the something he lacks.
Whenever I see him play I think of just an average player from a club who is having the best day of his life, playing out of his skin.
A bit like a tennis robot.

Re: Aus Open Day 9:
The AO site offers very smart match analyses, far better than we see on the TV.
No need to go on about personal insults or chokers, it focuses on point construction principles. It’s worth a read.
Agrees with me on outcome too, so must be good

I went to AO site to find draws amd orders of play and gave up.
It has now joined ATP in: “how to ruin a perfectly good website” group.
One by one they are all going down the drain.
I now just google for any info I need.

Have you forgotten he was two sets up and 5:1 vs Muray in the USO ‘13?
Or how he sobbed like a baby vs Fed las summer in Wimbledon?
Cilic is super fragile.
I have no idea what he was on when he won his slam...

Btw, what was wrong with Dimi this AO?
I didn’t see any of his matches.
Last year he played somwell in OZ?
That loss to Nadal may have taken the wind out of his sails.
Which if true, proves how flimsy his resolve must be.

I dunno. His only good match was when he had nothing to lose playing v Kyrgios and a 20k crowd. Asa it is in his racquet, he chokes.
The only comment I read about his match today is that he lost serve at 4 all in the first set. Just so typical.

Re: Aus Open Day 9:
Frankly. No. He did not. He allowed Nadal to reach the final on a fast surface surface of a GS. Federer with his groin injury managed to beat him!!! Without it, he would not have lost a set. We need to put Nadal's performance last year in perspective. He did not play any in-form players.noleisthebest wrote:

I suppose. Adal has the effect of making players look better than they are.
