Wow hasn't he changed. Ok not a nice title but he certainly looks very hairy.

No, he hasn't changed/matured at all!

Looks even more frustrated, in fact.

Sampras was lucky he played when he did.

He wouldn't win even a challenger now with his arsenal.
His game was not very cerebral. A 1D winning machine, similar to Nadal.

Agassi though...could blend in quite well.

I didn't like either, anyway...

Well...you could say the same of djoko and his running partners if they were to play with natural strings, small racquets, with hyper fast balls. Pete was actually a classy player with a very solid, gutsy second serve.

I watched last night a replay of Pete very Fed in 2001. The striking thing is the size of the balls. They so much smaller and certainly did not slow down nearly as much. There was not much point trying to get to it. This is what shocked me yesterday at Roehampton. Balls are so much bigger at Wimbledon nowadays.

I know Pete was a quality all-court player.

I didn't enjoy watching him at all, though...So personality does play a part, at least for me!

Despite that serve, I don't think he had a special talent that could transcend eras and technologies like Federer. Or even Laver.

As for Nole and natural gut stings etc, I am not sure how he'd play if he had learnt from day one.

He certainly does something right with the ball being able to send it deeply so consistently incl changing its direction, regardless of movement.

He is not afraid to take it early, he stands very closely to the baseline on returns...so I would not write him off.
He's the sort of guy who can crack a stone with his mind.

What makes you say that?

I love Stan and his game, but I'd never say he's much more talented than Nole.
He is not consistent enough like Fed.

That is not the right answer.
I can tell you to watch Rome 2008 final.

No way is Stan much more talented.

Interesting to hear Fed's post match interview back in 2001...esp that he almost  looks shocked with Sampras's returning.

And amazing that Fed was once called a "teenager"....

It's not close. Imagine Nole with a SHBH!....He'd be even much less consistent than Berrer!

Why? FO '15 was some of the best shot making ever, and to hit through Novak with such regularity and awe inspiring majesty was something to behold.
