Anderson is mentally like swiss cheese.  Murray isn't too good either, swearing and shouting through every point.

Actually Kev is doing better than I expected.

Despite playing mostly from the base-line and being super tall, there is something very old school about Kev's tennis.

Anderson has the game to beat anyone.  He's got the height, the serve, the touch - but no self belief.  This match should be over, and he should have also beaten Djok before.

It wouldn't surprise me if Anderson loses this.  He's already bottled break point this set.

Murray has run so much in this match and yet doesn't look tired at all. Not to mention all the energy that went into ball-striking/muscling.
That is really amazing.

If Murray comes through this, all the energy he has expended here will be a big factor.  I am not scared about Federer meeting Murray.  I'm much more fearful about Isner and Wawrinka.

I agree, Murray seems to struggle mentally against Roger, while Stan is more unpredictable.

Wawrinka is usually more deadly on slower surfaces (no surprise that he has won Aus and French), but in recent years he's proven deadly on all surfaces.  He's certainly more of a match for Fed than Murray. Murray tires himself out and doesn't really have the weapons to pressure Federer.  Wawrinka can hit winners from forehand and backhand.  His best in the last 2 years has been significantly better than Federer of the last 2 years.  Basically, if Wawrinka brings his A game - Fed is toast.

Fed needs to bring his A game for the remainder of the tournament and probably hope Djokovic isn't in the final, or else play a blinder.  It's not looking hopeful for Federer tbh.  But you never know.  Imho, this is the VERY LAST Slam that Fed has a chance in.

Kev's got to win this, he'll never recover from this loss.

No, because I think Federer can really trouble Wawrinka with his variety and pace. Stan can hit big shots, but needs time for his take-back.

Federer these days has very inconsistent 1st serve, and is a step slower to go with it.  I saw Wawrinka school this old Federer before... The pace of the US Open helps Federer... I wouldn't give him a prayer against Wawrinka on clay or the Aus Open.  Here, this year, I'd go 50/50.  No better.

yup.  If Anderson loses this set he's very likely to lose the match.  If he loses the match, he'll never ever recover mentally. I can't see either of these reaching the final anyway though.

I agree actually...  Murray is a worse match up for Stan, especially at the US / Wimb.  I'd still expect Wawrinka to show extra class at this stage and go through, though.  I'd be far happier if Fed had Anderson.  Should he get that far.

Roger Federer ends John Isner's unbroken 109 service games at the US Open by breaking in the 3rd set to take the match. Federer into QF of US Open.

Federer is also the only player to have defeated Isner in a tiebreaker 7-0.

naah.. Anderson getting to his first Slam QF after 4+ hours beating #3 in a hard fought match I expect would be overwhelmed.

Plus he has wins on Stan but they were all very very close.

Murray would have been much more difficult to beat.

I couldn't stay up. How did he look physically?

I only watched the first set and besides a DF and the odd slow second serve his 1st  was pacier than in his last match. His mouvement was really good in that first set, so clearly an improvement from round 3. He really could have broken Isner in that first set. Surprised the score was that close thereafter. I m checking the serve stats per set.

I actually slept through most of the match after the first 4 games, but left the ipad running and was woken up by the crowd on all big points.
To my bleary eyes, Fed looked quite fine physically.
Serve was good and bailed him out from some sticky moments, he was 0:40 in the 2nd set and saved 5 BPs in that game.
The court was fast but he was rarely late for the ball.
It was a tough match as he had to keep relentless focus all the time.
I thought he did well.
