Stan can still wake up and cause some damage. But at his current level of play, yes, Nole will likely not drop a set against Stan playing like this.Kim Jong-Un wrote:This will be straight sets you feel.

There hasn't really been great quality games this week, the court has been too fast for that really

Watching Becker is more interesting than the match atm...
I hope he does not play poker, his face is so transparent and expressive!

Kimmy, you need to watch some Youtube clips from the 80s and 90s to see what fast was. This is very slow.
Not even these powerful racquets can make it look fast.

Stan's BH is perhaps the only SHBH that can hold its own in BH-to-BH rallies against good DHers.

It does still break down more often than the best DHBHs, but on the other hand it can also create a lot more pace.summerblues wrote:Stan's BH is perhaps the only SHBH that can hold its own in BH-to-BH rallies against good DHers.

Nole too passive in the 2nd set.
Could've easily earnt a BP had he gone for that BH, instead he played a percentage shot, Stan got to it and pulled the trigger, good on him!

Disagree there.
Fed's BH is much stronger and consistent, one look at his H2H against No,e and Murray confirms that.

Cool. Hopefully this will calm Stan down.
Also good thing that the match has not been very draining so far, not many grueling rallies.

And how did he achieve it against two best defenders in these slow conditions if his BH isn't top notch?
They target it non-stop.

Nole is too an emotional a player, that's his Achilles heel.
He needs someone in the box or crowd to draw encouragement from. Boris is too cold for him.
His bros do a really good job...

Fed's BH is more versatile. Also, he is a better mover and can run around it more successfully. As a result, he can often get himself out of a BH-to-BH rally.noleisthebest wrote:And how did he achieve it against two best defenders in these slow conditions if his BH isn't top notch?

It is a fantastic BH but not the best. There is more to a BH than topspin and angles.
Stan's BH is perfect for his game, the powerful striking compensates for the lack of foot-speed, he has a brilliant technique on it.
Its forged in steel, its can't be broken down by relentless plugging in more and more balls. Something Fed's BH just can't cope with.

Essentially, Fed is a lot more talented, that's where his variation comes from: volleying with it, half-volleying from the base-line, fantastic slice both offensive and defensive...he also hits the ball quicker which requires perfect timing.summerblues wrote:Fed's BH is more versatile. Stan's BH benefits from his very strong upper body more than timing.
Don't get me wrong I love all SBH-ers in, my eyes they are all superior players to DBH-ers, regardless of the fact that there are some superbely talented players among the DBH-ers e.g. Nishi.

At 0-3 and BP down I was mentally writing this set off. Just like that, we are back.

I agree with all that. I would even grant you that if conditions were more like in the 80s, Fed's BH would be superior to Stan's. But not in today's conditions.noleisthebest wrote:volleying with it, half-volleying from the base-line, fantastic slice both offensive and defensive...he also hits the ball quicker which requires perfect timing.

They all, those variations etc... sum up to nothing when playing Nadal who breaks FH's BH into pieces. Fed can't hit DTL with enough sting and will often give an error. Stan can do a lot more with the BH against any player.

How does it matter. Be it timing or body strength. What counts is what the BH can do in a match.

And I woudl like to see an encounter between those 2 now that Fed is playing with a bigger frame.

No,e seems to struggle on his FH with Stan's pace, even when he's on the shot.
Not sure why, but he needs to adjust stg there.

Last year's AO shouldn't count as Fed was still not used to it properly.

Only table tennis possible ma'm now. I was playing when I worked in HP and they had tennis courts.
My SHBH is more natural shot but I often have put the other hand for strength. I'm a tad better than a beginner in tennis, my BH doesn't even count.

It's those games where Stan is 40/15 up or has game points but ends up losing which are costing him a lot! he coudl have wrapped this in 3....he'll probably lose it in 4....but that is so typical of scoring between a retriever and an attacking player.

He is unusually heavy on his feet, probably because it's hard for him to settle in the footwork with Stan going for his shots and not playing predictable percentage patterns.
