Today's choice:
1. Stepanek (33) - not that I necessarily think, he will win, but Djoko only offers a point, so here we go!
2. Berdych (6)
3. Ferrer (7)
4. Tsonga (14)
5. Bagdhatis (33) - who would have thought?
6. ERV (33)
7. Simon (33)

My thoughts precisely
Match of the day for sure, should be real fun!
I reckon Gulbis in straight sets, max four.
I just came back from playing, it's a lovely day, but I felt so drowsy. Pressure must be lower than usual, not good news for slow starters like Murray.

Very nice first set of grass tennis on the funky court 14.
Glad the organisers treated ground pass holders with this match.
Strak playing his simple, functional, crisp grass game. Still prefer Ernie, he's got the music inside him when he plays.
Didn't see the beginning and how Earnie got broken, but not surprised as he is a slow starter on grass.
Glad Llayani is umpiring this Hawkeye- free match.

I expected Earnie to struggle with returning, but not to this extent.
Still, he is a better server so TBs should go his way.

With this sweatband and the big nose, Strak reminds me of Steffi Graf when receiving.

Something's wrong with Earnie's shoulder. He's lost the serve completely

Earnie
Why do all the nice players have tough draws in the early rounds...
Without Gulbis's serve working properly, Strak was allowed to play better and show what he can do, and he is a very good grass player indeed.
SBH with all its inherent variety really gave him the edge in this match, also very competent, clean volleying. He simply outplayed Earnie.
The only thing I can't stand about his win, when the first percentage player comes along, he'll grind him to dust and knock him out.
Without the serve, Earnie had no chance today. He is no roadrunner. I think if grass season was longer, he'd have more time to adapt his footwork to it.
What a shame he's out.

After not seeing Roger on Centre yesterday, I'm done with trying to second guess the organizers' decisions regarding courts. I know Dimitrov won Queens but why is he on CC? (Not that I would complain)
Btw, Nadal looked vulnerable yesterday, it was only because of Klizan's lack of consistency that he won. Klizan had so many opportunities, and his forehand was truly amazing to watch.

Stepanek's tennis looks impressive on grass, the most natural on it of all the players I've seen so far.

i think they are just building dimitrov up so that murrays win over him will look more significant, and a lose to him wont make murray look shit
nadal did look very vulnerable but i fear that the deeper he goes the more confident he will become
lets hope lucas rosol rattles him enough for him to choke

Yes, and let's not forget he's 35.
Just goes to show what impact slow playing conditions have made.
I am still hoping that one day I'll wake up and realise Nadal's 14 slams was just a bad dream.

Nole's playing pretty well, can't see anyone stop him before the final.
I love seeing Boris in his box. You can see he is struggling to contain himself in his seat. How he'd love to get back on that special court and have fun again!

Nole's volleys have come a long way since his early days, even his BH slice has improved and looks much less rigid.
It's been nice following him closely all these years and watching him grow and mature as a player.

Very nice and entertaining match, love the contrast between the best of modern baseline tennis and the soft, cheerful, quick hands of the old school one.
Radek leaping with joy after getting to the ball and digging out a volley, Nole roaring back in the next point after being able to pass him, both shots - top drawer.
3:3, great game.
Stepanek still impressive, as Mac suggested- playing like it's his last match on CC.

I expect nothing than full demolition from Nole in the 4th

That was a real cracker of a match!
So much entertainment and fun right down to the match point Hawkeye decision.
Radek was at his clowning best, I think I know how he charms all those lovely ladies: he laughs their clothes off!

The tournament referee stopped play due to lack of light but Tsonga and Querrey kept standing on the baseline and refused to leave the court.
The match continues.

Re: Wimbledon 2014: MOTD Day 3 Wed 25/06/2014
Fun match of the day: Steps vs. Djoko - after the first two sets I thought it will be a rather routine win for Djoko and went on to do something else. Came back to see that 3rd set went to a tie-break and it became an exciting and high class match after that. Steps a worthy opponent and an entertainer to boot.
Upset of the day: Hard to chose between Ferrer - Kuznetsov and Gulbis - Stakh, but I was personally a lot more surprised at the first. I thought that Kuznetsov would probably have a nice grass game (hadn't seen much of him before, but as a former junior Wimbledon champ I expected that of him), but that Ferrer's consistency would win out. Glad, Kuznetsov pulled through in the end.
Gulbis - Stakh: was surprised, just how bad Gulbis' return of serve was that day. He rarely managed to go deep into the Stakh service games, resulting in very few break chances and little pressure on Stakh. Stakh such a classical grass courter, loved watching him, will have a good chance in R3, when he'll be meeting Chardy.

I honestly still don't understand, how he won that. Rigged election? Anyhow the meaning of the award was completely devaluated by electing a known cheater.noleisthebest wrote:Nole may mot have won any Stefan Edberg awards like Nadal, but he's one fine gentleman with a big heart.
