Re: Wimbledon 2013: Day 12 Ladies' Final
Lisicki for the Wimbledn 2013. Between the 2, my choice is easy. I simply don't like Bartoli's on court presence, always jumping around and making fierce com'ons. Most imp: Her ugly double handed shots of both wings.
I didn't like Monica Seles for the same reason i.e. 2 handed forehands trying to bludgeon the ball.

Funny, I never saw Bartoli as fierce or intimidating in any way, on the contrary: slightly comical and quite endearing.
She goes to her battles so bravely, armed only with her BH fuelled by her big heart.
No serve, no counter punching, nothing by the book. I absolutely love watching her: the quirkier she gets in a match - the better!
Do you know that she got into her bubble once so much she actually needed an MTO for injuring herself with the pendant of her necklace while pounding her chest proudly after winning a tough point.
Knowing what she has and even more what she doesn't as a player, and how she plays knowing it makes her probably the gutsiest dame out there.

Yes her game is not nice I agree. I never liked DHFHs. THat's ugly and associated to young kids who cannot carry the racquet.
But she still has talent. She must have to be winning with such bad technique.

Then I just have to say that we watch the same match and the same player differently.

Sure has. But I just don't know any tennis pro who doesn't have any bit of talent.
My dislike isn't strong as it might be appearing. Just a tad, with those constant jumping and urging on herself. She just can't have moment of peace.
And too fat as well.

Re: Wimbledon 2013: Day 12 Ladies' Final
That's why when talking tennis I always talk in relative terms. When we say Gasquet is not very fit....he is still very fit.....but not compared to other pros. Regarding Marion she must be pretty talented to take the ball early and control it like she does having, I grant it, a poor technique. Her game is "feel" more than technique...raiders_of_the_lost_ark wrote:Tenez wrote:Yes her game is not nice I agree. I never liked DHFHs. The Bartoli pre-final interview was great, she's charming. A total contrast to her on-court freakish persona.

Re: Wimbledon 2013: Day 12 Ladies' Final
One of the really nice things about French school of tennis is that it seems to nourish and encourage talent in all its shapes and forms: not one player is the same, but all are quite talented and play freely.
Same with Marion.
She would have probably never have made it in East Europe where they seem to produce or manufacture the monotonous baseline mental midgets.

No offense, but just watching Marion scares me as nobody from men, she has an image of the greatest fighter ever.
Sabine is mentally fragile to win it today. It looks to be another tear valley after the match.

French tennis deserves a slam winner even if it comes from a woman, after all the quality players on ATP they have produced.

I don't remember any informational specifics, she was just totally relaxed and clearly aware of her peculiarities, apparently seeing the humour in them. Very nice.

Doesn't Greman tennis deserve it? I don't think after Graf there has been a GS winner from Germany.

yes, she comes across as genuinely sweet. I love all her quirkiness, the more the better, she is a real gem and a one-off in so many ways!

If can I imagine a harmonized mix partner for Marion then nobody else than Marcel Grannolers

Seems like the fact that a media narrative has been built around Lisicki has put all the pressure on her.

Polish players have a great run in Wimbledon, JJ, Radwanska and a 'half' o Lisicki are coming from Poland. Sabine' parents came to Germany in 79'

I'm surprised that Lisicki's playing up to her wide-eyed innocent appearance irritates you whereas the William's sisters 'lil ol me' routine doesn't.
The media clearly love the wide-eyed thing.

I like Serena, but I'm glad it's going to be a new Wimbledon (as well as slam) champion.
And isn't it nice there is no screaming and shrieking!
I don't know what it is with players today, even among men, it's terrible!!!

I don't like Venus much, more of a Serena fan, and I don't fall for all that palaver of course, she is a dragon on the court and that's the only thing I buy!

The thing that I like about Bartoli, she is so natural, she just sees the ball and goes for it full on every time, she doesn't waste a single shot!

I find it fascinating how Lisicki managed to dispatch Serena and can't deal with Bartoli.
Probably finds it hard to play as a favourite.

Best of three in women's GS finals really isn't appropriate. The commentators are embarrassed by the need to hide their fear that this will be over in not much longer than a long blink.

I can't see why women can't play best of 5 in slams. Would be much more interesting.
The only thing is scheduling would be a nightmare.

Re: Wimbledon 2013: Day 12 Ladies' Final
Tomorrow. . . well. Murray looks improved. I've never been a fan of his, quite the opposite in fact, but his game is bordering on likeable now. I never thought I'd say that.
However, Novak is hitting the ball so sweetly and his power comes from such good technique, i.e. his strokes are so relaxed and efficient. What ought to happen is that over the long haul Murray will have his moments but wear himself out, and Novak should take it in 4 sets. Much like last year Murray will have a burst where he looks dominant for a set or so, then it[ll be over.
Also, Murray will grab his thighs and lower back a lot, pointing his head upwards in a weird way. And fall over at least once, probably twice. Then in the interview he'll say 'I definitely had my chances but this will motivate me to get better.'
