Some Fedreresque shots from Wawrinka! Looks a bit like a Rosol performance right now
Djokovic looks stunned but I wouldnt worry until Djokovic loses match point

I wonder who Federer was referring to when he mentioned "roadrunners".

I don't call this choking. One is producing risky shot the other isn't....and when slightly tired....it ALWAYS happen. Even to Federer.

He is getting into too many rallies, Nole will just grind him down. How did they get to 6:1, 4:1? Did they play short points or was Stan holding up in the rallies?
Even if Nole wins, this may give some encouragement to Berdych who seems to be playing well. I would much rather see Stan in QF though

Well as expected Djoko kept threwing long rallies and stan's edge went off.

Wawrinka always puts put a good fight no matter who he plays and what's the outcome of the match. He often loosens grip due to nerves and it gets over for him.

Stan must be asking himself why he is tired despite joko doing all the running.

I think it's a bit of both. As far as i'm concerned these two show their true colors.
Stan showed for 1,5 hours how extremely talented he is by completely outhitting the number one player. But when he really could decide the outcome of this match, he started to miss first serves and lost his focus.
Djoko on the other hand did what he do best: forcing his opponent into errors by extending the rallies and playing save yet resolute. Nothing more, nothing less. Look at the eleventh game of the second set: if that wasn't a "Nadal special" i don't know what is.

BTW: i just joined in here but i think that first set was some of the best tennis i've ever seen. It's such a shame that the roadrunner trio can overcome those waves of perfect tennis every time by hanging in and playing save and defensive.

But he was exhausted already when he had to pull the trigger. He had no problem closing the first set. That's my point. I said in my post that it was harder to deliver under pressure. It's simply so...for everybody who relies on something subtle (like great timing). This is the advantage teh DJokos and Nadals have as they don't go for risky shots. So for us it looks like as "choking" but if you have ran like crazy for 1h, it's not choking to me. Choking is Coria, Monfils, and others who despite being fitter cannot cross the line.
Look at Djoko when he is trying to attack despite more margins he still makes huge mistake.

It's terrible....but at least they are now speeding the conds to make it a bit more balanced...Had it been even faster, less longer rallies and Wawrika would see the goal posts as very large taking lots of pressure off and most likely would not have "choked".

That's true, speeding up the first slam of the year is a good sign. Let's see how the refs apply the 25 rule during the clay season.

yes, just no need for it. "don't make me laugh" when I said when a talented player is grinded down by a fitter more defensive player.

Exactly. Like Nadal he can now relax and hit aggressive shots and some will remember this aggressive play but forget what really saved him.

If somebody can not clinch the second set leading 5:2 (with won 6:1), then on that top level is matter of the head not legs.
Stan serves better than Nole and this is a reason why Nole can not dominate on the court. Stan plays really well.

It's not as simple as that. If I remember correctly Stan was 30/up in his serve when he served for the second set but he had had to hit amazing shots as Djoko scrapped everything back like no-one coudl and that added more pressure to Stan to close the set.

Not simple for sure, it is the most difficult part, but mentally in particular. Nole does not look good in this match, he is beatable. But one thing is obvious, the longer he plays the more confidence he has.

But it's not a level playing field as one takes risk the other isn't. This is why I don't think it's fair at all to call it choking or mental.
When Djoko had to attack versus Nadal on clay, he "choked" in all his matches last season versus a fitter Nadal.
This is why it's not mental....it's physical. I hope it woudl be clear by now.
