Basel and Vienna 2018
I was writing that something changed in Fed's serve. Looks stiffer and then he makes 2 very bad DFs...not close at all. and offers Simon a couple of BPs from 40/15 up.
Saves it and then run away in the TB with some better serving.
Strange.

Well Fed might win this match but hard to see him win the Tournament or WTF, no BH at all just slicing and avoiding it as much as he can and going for FH, no serve either, poor movement, bit better last 2 game.

Wins in 3, but so much ups and down, barely kept serve, broken loads.

Indeed, a cause for optimism ahead of next week's Paris Masters.Jahu wrote:DEC1M7 wrote:His back seems ok in this clip

Tenez, are the rumours you only moved to France so you could watch Nadal win MC and RG #12 true?Tenez wrote:

The other reason in my real word is to produce, amongst other things, my olive oil which I harvested this week and got a whopping 25 litres out of 206kg of olives.. that was fun though!
Going back to London next week to empty my house there. Sad times.

Re: Basel and Vienna 2018
So Federer admits to having been injured since Halle.
This fits in exactly with what I observed. He looked horrendous in Halle and I said so at the time and and has looked awful since.
He should skip Paris and only play WTF if he has truly recovered.
Then really focus on getting better for OZ.

I agree though to be fair, he did not look much better yesterday. I think his back is also playing up. His serving is far from his usual level and normally this is a shot that doesn't decline fast.

Bit of a disgrace this Medvedev. Looks like he is tanking.

Fed win, usual ups and downs.
Copil played superb, well done for crushing that russian prick who will never win a GS unless everyone injured.
Anderson-Ninja tomorrow in Vie.

I agree. Copil is such a great player. He beat Zverev with pure attacking tennis.
Another one who needed 28 years to perfect his game.

Good win for Fed, at 0:3 2nd set I thought it's gona be a 3 setter.
Copil top man, fearless attacking madafaka boooom, hope the best for him.
Happy for Anderson too, Nishi as usual folding when it matters.

Re: Basel and Vienna 2018
His game is perfect for his own level, but in comparison with the level of the entire circuit, he is behind. He plays good attacking tennis, strong server, but I'm not sure about his volleying.. Also struggles mentally in crunch moments.. like he did last evening. ( up a break in both serving good and holding easy, then just playing bad at the wrong time ).Tenez wrote:I agree. If you are talking about Alexander Zverev, isn't he German?

He is German as much as Rusedski was British or Raonic is Canadian. Well talking about his roots, not where he was born.

Hahah, no Sir, you can be a citizen and have a passport of any country, that doesn't change your blood composition of a nation your roots are, I mean look at Djoko, little fake Prince of tax-free Monaco, yet he barks serbian nationalism from his $15 Million Monaco apartment any moment he can

So it is: Rusedski did not decide to take on British citizenship until he was 22, Raonic was 3 when he moved to Canada, and Zverev was born in Germany to parents who had taken up permanent residence there (as Jahu knows). Each case is rather different and Zverev is only Russian as opposed to German in the eyes of the sort of sniveling bigot who'd have thrown stones through European shopkeeper's windows during WWI or WWII on the basis that they had 'funny names'.
On another note, looks to me that Connors' record of 109 may prove just out of reach of Fed, but finishing in three figures is close to certain and will be yet another nice achievement.

Re: Basel and Vienna 2018
Nationalism is all meaningless anyway, these are just political structures.
The only thing I pay attention to is the cultural influence of a persons upbringing; what values have they grown up with and how do they affect their beliefs and behaviour. Now that sounds nice but it can be very controversial in some circles.

Re: Basel and Vienna 2018
No - it's not racist. Genetics plays a massive factor in sport and ability of all kinds. If Usain Bolt had moved to Britain aged 3, it wouldn't matter a damn thing. Genetically, he has an advantage in running - and so do most people from that region on average. And the same goes with inventors and chess players and other sportsmen from various regions. Nature doesn't lie.
And these days, all you need to do is throw your passport away and our dumb government welcomes you with open arms. Even if you're a jihadi. Because *shock horror* we wouldn't want to be waaaaycist.

I don't mind anyone's roots and sure multi-cultularism is good and nice to know and listen to peoples backgrounds stories, life problems of before good western life, sufferings under different communist systems, wars etc etc. always a good story there.
Of course in general I'm anti Russian Propaganda, while I'm fine with russian blondes
Fed can have a big attack next year on 250s he has never played and win another 10-11 quick ones to 110 wins and be done
