His FH is really poor indeednoleisthebest wrote:gallery play wrote:Let's see if Fed will change tactics. He was only playing to make it uncomfortable for Coric: a lot of high slices and other junk
There's not much he can do atm. Coric is reading his serve well.
Fed needs to fire more with his FH.

Break will come no worries. How much will it cost to Fed body, that's something else.

And that is really strange as it was better than ever in Stuttgart.

Croatia could have two winners today. And their soccer team is doing well too. Good times.

Actually, Fed's footwork is slightly off on some of those loose FHs. Maybe he is simply tired. Didn't have any rest in the last 4 days?

Cilic I'm sure will win, Coric 51/49 for now.

Re: Gerry Webber Open Halle & Queens
Fed should do a bit of Nadal on BP serves, just pull another 2m behind the baseline and hit it!!!

Reminds me the Haas match at the FO 2009....Fed not playing badly and winning more points but can't quite pull out.

Re: Gerry Webber Open Halle & Queens
I don't think he is playing that well, some nice shots, but too many dodgy ones for his standard, esp when it matters, very not like him.Tenez wrote:Reminds me the Haas match at the FO 2009....Fed not playing badly and winning more points but can't quite pull out.

Well Coric is playing nearly as well as peak Djoko...so that is a good match to win for Fed.

Coric doing a Nadal, hitting just on Fed's BH.

Not sure what to make of Fed's play, Coric is not as good as the score suggest though

Yes he doesn't move as well...but I think he does try to preserve his body there. Again difficult to say.noleisthebest wrote:I don't think he is playing that well, some nice shots, but too many dodgy ones for his standard, esp when it matters, very not like him.Tenez wrote:Reminds me the Haas match at the FO 2009....Fed not playing badly and winning more points but can't quite pull out.

Poor Coric. That was horrible. But Fed has been stepping it up a little on his return games.

Re: Gerry Webber Open Halle & Queens
Fed struggled to return his serves, esp on the BH...I think that made the difference.gallery play wrote:Not sure what to make of Fed's play, Coric is not as good as the score suggest though

Re: Gerry Webber Open Halle & Queens
At the end he could have won it in 2 sets. Bit unlucky there bit Coric does well to keep the ball in play.

Re: Gerry Webber Open Halle & Queens
He retrieves lots of ball and they are deep, keeping Fed back.gallery play wrote:Not sure what to make of Fed's play, Coric is not as good as the score suggest though
On HC with a safer bounce, I'd expect to dictate a bit more. But there on damaged and slow grass, it is a bit harder.

Re: Gerry Webber Open Halle & Queens
That is how I see it too. Â He wants to win, but not at any cost. Â When he is injured, his shots do not have the pop. Â Today he hit enough good shots to tell me he is fine. Â He just does not want to spend all his energy here when bigger trophies await.Tenez wrote:Yes he doesn't move as well...but I think he does try to preserve his body there. Again difficult to say.

Yes but he didn't. He mustn't have lost that TB. It's a cheap set he threw away and he can't afford that in the best of 5.

On a normal day at Wimbledon Fed would beat Coric 6-3 6-1 6-4

I was thinking exactly the same. Good practice for playing Nole if Nole finds his form.Tenez wrote:He retrieves lots of ball and they are deep, keeping Fed back.

One bp, just one bp and it gets him the match. He even never got close to get a bp.
What a farce.
