Re: Gerry Webber Open Halle & Queens
I am not worried about Cilic. Hardly about Kyrgios as well. Djokovic? yes.
And yes I am not sure Fed can play 7 best of 5 anymore. In fact a condition of this is that he doesn't lose sets on his way to the finals. Last year he was close to lose a couple (Raonic, Berdych). His luck might be that no one seems on form this year either.

In spite of all these tight scores, and broken serves, Fed is looking pretty good to me again today.

Tuned in to see Fed get ball abuse warning...
And now a BP down to ....Kudla! Who I didn't even what he looked like till now.
So Fed won the first set in the TB...again...and struggling on his serve.

Fed is looking like this is all hard work for him and not having fun.
Ah well...I suppose anything but Wimbledon must be like a boring meetings day in the office for him...

Is he? really? I would like to see what is his serve's speed average. I have the feeling it is way below his usual.summerblues wrote:In spite of all these tight scores, and broken serves, Fed is looking pretty good to me again today.

Federer manages to make the difference (so far) thanks to his hands. He can do a lot with his eye/hand skills. The rest is dodgy.

he is sloppy but looks like he wants to win. I am sure he will give his all tomorrow. That's where the bog points are.

I think Fed looks fine, just not too bothered. All these 7:6 7:5 sets will become 6:4, 6:3 and 6:2 sets at Wimbledon.

There are no big points to be had in Halle.

Apparently, Fed has played 17 tie-breaks in Halle over the years, and won 16 of them. Impressive.

300pt is big. It woudl have allowed him to finish number 1 a couple more years in the past.summerblues wrote:There are no big points to be had in Halle.

He was an inch away of beating Federer in Melbourne..Tenez wrote:I am not worried about Cilic. Hardly about Kyrgios as well. Djokovic? yes.

You say no one is on form, I think Wimbledon will be much more combative than the clay season we've had.

Djokovic who has done nothing for ages? The bigger threat at Wimb is Kyrgios, Cilic, Del Potro, and all the other big hitters. Not Djokovic.

He was only an inch away cause Fed dropped his level considerably and in spite of that Cilic was again too nervous to deliver when he realised he could win.
Yes Cilic can beat Federer....but only if Fed is playing poorly which is my real worry for now.

What happened to Bautista Agut? I see he retired when 3:2 up in the first set.
Kyrgios and Cilic both looking quite good.

I agree. If he wins with by whatever score we can park the fear and pessimism and be happy he’s got a nice week off before tackling the easier road of seven matches in two weeks, with days off.Tenez wrote:Dunno but Coric is going to be a real test tomorrow.

Re: Gerry Webber Open Halle & Queens
If Djokovic makes it to the last 8 at W than he is easily the biggest threat to Federer.
Much more so than the unproven Kyrgios and Cilic who we know is a bottler.
Djokovic frightens Federer - he is an equal - the other's.. nah

Re: Gerry Webber Open Halle & Queens
I haven't watched much of Federer but by all accounts his serve has been much easier to break than in previous years. I'm sure last year he got through Halle and W with his serve broken less half a dozen times.
The 1st% percentage also seem to be lowish (in the mid to late 50's?)
Not sure what the average speed has been.
What about his side to side movement on the baseline - those are usually indicators of a back problem.

Djoko ain't gonna see a QF at W. He can serve good occasionally, hit a BH, but the guy is breathless, every second serve is a loud moan, he is not even at his 50%.

Tat's what I find strange cause usually you have the gun speed on the court. But I coudl not see it....so I suspect Fed doesn;t want his competitors to know it.
His secind sets servings stats have been terrible.

Re: Gerry Webber Open Halle & Queens
It doesn't make sense to me..
Why would he rather play in Halle and have the gun speed to be removed to hide his injury instead of not playing and rest for Wimbledon?
All i know is that he'll get a long way if he brings his Stuttgart form to Wimbledon

Halle must be slow because it's weird to see Fed not being able to rush Coric even with his best shotsl

It's the first time I see him play with good streaming today.
But the last 3 times I logged in to watch he lost his serve and today was 0/30 down but managed to come back. He looks better with good streaming ...

Fed is having to use a whole range of his artistry just to win a point on Coric's serve...in 20 shots!

Coric has really improved this year. I do not remember his serve being this good. All his shots seem to have more power too. He even comes to the net. Does not look too natural there but his volleys are not horrible.

I know he wants this title to round it to 10, so its not like he is playing leisurely, he is mega tired, though a good preparation for W.

Let's see if Fed will change tactics. He was only playing to make it uncomfortable for Coric: a lot of high slices and other junk

BTW, they do have a speed gun there, just not as visible as usual. It is a little higher up in the right corner on TV, between "schauinsland raisen" and "barehen" billboards.

I guess Federer can only hope for a draw with all the big servers going for broke. Fed looks very awkward in any rally longer than 3 shots.

There's not much he can do atm. Coric is reading his serve well.
Fed needs to fire more with his FH.

Fed needs to play a little more aggressive. Especially on big points, he has been very passive, waiting for Coric to miss.noleisthebest wrote:gallery play wrote:Let's see if Fed will change tactics. He was only playing to make it uncomfortable for Coric: a lot of high slices and other junk
