Prediction game: Men's sf
One joker available and also an added bonus of correct number of sets.
So if Thiem wins in four, with a joker, you would get 90 points.
Cecchinato (90) vs Thiem (30)
Nadal (20) vs Delpo (50)
Cecc (joker) in 4.
Nadal in 3.

Cecchinato (90) in 5....cause Nadal always gets the luck (Joker)
Delpo (50) Because maybe this time Nadal will run out of luck!

I can tell you though, if Cecchinato wins the first match, the second will become even more critical - everything will depend on Delpo.

So what is our plan for tomorrow? Thiem in 3 easy sets, and the second match postponed to Saturday because of rain?

Very possible given the weather forecast.summerblues wrote:So what is our plan for tomorrow? Thiem in 3 easy sets, and the second match postponed to Saturday because of rain?

Here is another alternative:summerblues wrote:So what is our plan for tomorrow? Thiem in 3 easy sets, and the second match postponed to Saturday because of rain?
Cecchinato wins 12:10 in the 5th, and Delpo pulls out of the second SF because of wrist issues.

Re: Prediction game: Men's sf
I have accepted the fact Nadal is winning this wretched trophy again and am just going to enjoy tennis today.
Particularly look forward to finally seeing Cecchi!
hopefully he still has something left in his emotional tank and will be able to play his best tennis.
What’s funny is how Fognini has been playing so well on clay all his career and he was the main Italian name etc etc, and now this guy comes out of nowhere and steals the show on the biggest clay stage.
Just goes to show all the talk and hype means nothing...best is just to turn up and do it!

Re: Prediction game: Men's sf
Thiem is going to crush him, time to remember that this guy is a journeyman and Djokovic ain't what he was.
What we really want is damp, bit of drizzle, not enough to rescue Nadal but such that Delpo can crush his short groundstrokes.

one thing is what I would like, an another is to play an innocent betting game
I think Delpo winning in 4 is a fair option
of course anything can happen but I dont see delpo winning in 5, and neither in 3 (though this is more possible than in 5)
considering conditions and the way they both get to the match, I get the sense that delpo could win, thus my bet
but indeed I want rafa to win

Re: Prediction game: Men's sf
Really nice player this Cecchinato.
Still face and head on both BH and FH. Plus the flair. Just inexperienced on this stage and level of players. But holding on well after the initial break.
FORZA CECHHI!!!! :DIVA:
Thiem on the other hand looked awful in that slo-mo of his service motion.
His vein-popping face was screwed up and yelling as soon as he tossed the ball. I can't believe it!
Playing his usual tennis at his kind of good level. Muscling the ball like crazy.

On the other hand, it's heartwarming to see two SBH-ers in the semi of a slam esp on clay.

Cecchi has great hands and feel, totally natural player, good competitor, full package.
Probably not as fit as most but he doesn't muscle the ball so should last at least 4 sets fresh-ish.

I was just going to say how the Mexican wave has gone out of fashion as I haven't seen a single one this year and there it comes!
It's silly and cute at the same time...
Who "invented" it?

Re: Prediction game: Men's sf
Thiem is playing exact same tennis as Nadal.
Hit the ball as hard as possible away from the opponent. Maybe Thiem spreads the court a little closer to the lines but not by much.
The point is on whacking the ball.

Yes but on the BH he is weaker and doesn't generate as much pace as Nadal.

Re: Prediction game: Men's sf
Not a fan of this "angles" tennis, I don't mind and occasional one but Thiem seems to be patenting it...I understand that's all that's left to exploit in the game of modern baseline tennis, maybe after this stage, volleying might come back in vogue again as the very last resort...

Thiem has no chance vs Nadal. He is not crafty at all.
If there is any hope it lies with Delpo.

Re: Prediction game: Men's sf
Excellent news.
I'm not watching but the points score and number of serves each man has made indicate this is not as close as 7-5, 7-6 suggests. It suggests to me that Cecchinato is hanging on and getting by.

Crafty enough to lead 2 sets to love to Cecchi...and he has beaten Nadal before on clay.noleisthebest wrote:Thiem has no chance vs Nadal. He is not crafty at all.

I fear Delpo's mouvement and weak BH will be too much to beat Nadal.

He only beat him in Madrid because of fast clay. And here in RG clay is very Nadal-friendly.

Re: Prediction game: Men's sf
I don't mind Thieam as a character, he is ok, no gamesmaship (bar coaching, but that's more like a helpless boy)...
Anyway, I enjoyed Cecchi't tennis a lot and first two sets were first class.
I checked, he is only 25, so hopefully this serves as springboard and he does not vanish back into challenger obsucurity, although he does come across as a clay specialist..of the nicest kind, though!

Frankly if Schwartzy can take a set and coudl even have led 5/1 in teh second...then Thiem can do some damage. Importantly, he seems able to run and last for ever...and unlike Nadal he is not bluffing it!
