Different Prediction Game
Hi guys, I put up this prediction game on v2, but may as well post it here also. Please join in
Here is the write-up:
I list 16 pairs of players. The goal is to pick, from each pair, the player who will advance deeper into the tournament. If you get it wrong, you will get no points. If you get it right, you will get one point for every extra round your pick makes. So, for example, if you pick Tsonga from the Tsonga-Berdych pairing, and if Tsonga advances to Rd4, while Berdych loses in Rd1, you will get 3 points. No points are awarded to anyone for the pairings where both players progress equally far. Whoever gets the highest point total wins the game.
1. If two posters score the same number of points, ties are broken by looking at highest scores from individual pairings. E.g. if poster A gets 8 points as 3+2+1+1+1+0s, and poster B gest 8 points as 3+1+1+1+1+1+0s, then poster A wins on account of his/her second best pick giving him/her 2 points.
2. Deadline for submission of picks is 11am Melbourne time on Monday (which I believe is midnight in the UK). Late submissions are accepted or rejected at the sole and arbitrary discretion of the game organizer.
1. Tsonga - Berdych
2. Anderson - Cilic
3. Seppi - Bellucci
4. Dimitrov - Paire
5. Tomic - Isner
6. Rosol - Vesely
7. Robredo - Granollers
8. Nadal - Wawrinka
9. Chung - A Zverev
10. Simon - Goffin
11. Nishikori - Raonic
12. Kyrgios - Thiem
13. Coric - Kudla
14. Fognini - Monfils
15. Chardy - F. Lopez
16. Sock - Garcia-Lopez

Re: Different Prediction Game
I agree.
The problem is organisation and setting firm rules...and sticking with them...not giving up because you are not going to win.
I originally enjoyed the game which is why put a lot of effort, but not everyine else did, so I just thought: why should I waste my time...
Plus I had Tenes winding me up!

Re: Different Prediction Game
Thanks SB.
I don't consider myself a winner as I was a day late.
How many points do I have without those scores I knew?

That is very humble but not as humble as my winner's speech on 606v2.noleisthebest wrote:Thanks SB.

Oh...you came all the way from v2 to tell us how you won this game there.
Well done!
Btw, what have you been doing with your tennis self since Nadal lost in the first round?
Will you be able to start supporting someone else or are your fandom days finished?
You will be an interesting case to watch and find out how much this alleged popularity and interest in tennis Nadal created continues after he retires...

Not only that, but I wanted to emphasise how humble I was. Very.
What have I been doing with my tennis self since Nadal lost ?
Well it's been too cold to play tennis anyway so I've been playing squash in my tennis gear. You can chase everything down in squash, very nice.
Will I start supporting someone else ?
I guess you're asking after Nadal retires.
Well as you know I already support Berdych a bit as I like watching him play, and I love tennis, so I guess I will have some players I like.
I don't know if I'll be able to support anyone as much as I support Nadal, my criteria would probably include having a poor serve and having a great attitude. We'll see I guess.
