I had some faint hope from Pella, even Bolleli, but Gasquet.....it’s ZERO chance.
He’s got such a loser mentality...

as soon as I typed this Fognini loses his service game with a couple of DFs....like he's tanking....I am really going to start believing in stupid jinxingnoleisthebest wrote:Forza Fabioooooo!

Re: Day 7 French Open predictions
Amazing (but I can really understand) how Fognini can just turn off from his zone and appear totally not interested.
It's as if the sight of dull expressionless Edmund is boring his funky thunder pants off him!
He is so "off" atm that even the squeaky little foot-fault call (shown on replay to be incorrect) didn't raise his eyebrow...what a guy....

Re: Day 7 French Open predictions
Edmund is here to win this match. There is no other thought in his head.
Fabio.....I can just imagine what goes through his head...
I bet he notices smiles and frowns on clay particles...at times...
Now he walks to the line Edmund's FH landed a great winner...he can't believe it but nods in approval...the genius in him is ok with it!
And suddenly, after being 1:5 it's 4:5 and Fabio is back on serve.
Changeover....Fabio with towel over his head, having a "quiet" time with himself....
Edmund stretched on the ground receiving MTO/massage...opponent's momentum breaking attempt?
FAbio doesn't care, he is already at the service line, bouncing the ball!

It's not tight...Fabio's so much better, just fails to be "patient"...that's his Achilles' heel.
Now he is having an MTO and it literally is his heel!
COME ON FABIOOOO, YOU CAN DOOO IT!!!!!
btw, shame the crowd is so dead!

I find it hard to support Fabbio. Too erratic. Only when he is close to beat Nadal that I get excited.....but this is rare.

Re: Day 7 French Open predictions
Scoreboard watching day for me.
Schwartzman vs Coric could be an important match - the winner could well end up playing Delpo or Cilic in the SF, with a decent chance to make the final.
Fognini Edmund a difficult call for me. Fognini is very entertaining when he is on, but he is on rather sparingly. Edmund has improved a lot this year, he could be more dangerous of the two to the higher seeds.
And good luck Richard! This could be his belated coming of age. The day when the boy becomes a man.

I have never seen this Marterer guy. Is he any good? He has advanced quite smoothly. Does he have any chance in the next round (vs either Rafa or Richard)?

I tuned in for the sake of it...it's baaaaad and saaaaad.
Nadal is almost feeling pity for Gasquet...
Looks like there is much more fun with Goffin & Monfils switching to that!
Monfils was a break up in the 4th but Goffin is back.
Monfils has come out of nowhere in this tournament!
Crowd are at their finest
Just what Le Monf needs!

Gasquet is depressing. But to be fair Nadal is injecting enough spin to jam any other player.

Monfils gets time warning after a long point and then has the cheek to moan to the umpire...of course only to get the crowd revved up...allez Le Goff!

Re: Day 7 French Open predictions
NADAL and THE CRITICAL PACE.
Against Nadal it is important to have enough pace to prevent him to inject his spin. If the conds are not fast enough, the player needs to compensate by hitting harder...otherwise he has enough time to inject his spin and pace.
Someone like Isner has more chance than Gasquet. Even Bolelli ha enough pace.

this Morterer has plenty of pace and plays percentage, he is German so shouldn't choke....maybe HE can do it!

Re: Day 7 French Open predictions
yes, delpo is my main worry for nadal
I cant see an upset in 4th round or even in quarters, but that semi looks like the moment to see what you so much desire
of course little schwartzman is a fighter but I doubt he can do it... and in semis Fognini would be a test too... but he is too irregular for such an achievement.
yes delpo has it all to do it, but it has to be in a perfect day... and probably mixed with a not good day from nadal
also, even if nadal goes through, it should be important how much time he spends in that semi if djokovic, zverev or thiem are waiting in the final

I don;t know. You tend to think it;s in Nadal's racquet...but to me a game is almost always in the attacker's racquet.

Nope...a few players showed that they could be that boring consistency. Rarely for some I agree but more frequently for others. You know that if Djoko were to find his form, Nadal would not win that FO. Luckily for Nadal Djoko is not there yet.naxroy wrote:Tenez wrote:naxroy wrote:yes delpo has it all to do it, but it has to be in a perfect day... and probably mixed with a not good day from nadal

Whether he his flat or not. It doesn't matter. Gasquet is behind Nadal in every aspect of the game, irrespective of playing surface.Tenez wrote:Gasquet doesn't hit flat enough.
If they play on fast courts, the scoreline will be somewhat better for Gasquet, but he would still lose in st. sets.

Wrong. Nadal is only ahead of Gasquet on the physical side...but that is enough for Nadal to beat him on every surface...and I would like to see a Gasquet v Nadal on fresh grass.

This is so so wrong Tenez. Gasquet is behind Nadal in every aspect of the game, every single one. And it showed the last match too where he was beaten in all aspects, winners, volleys, Serve %, everything..
If physicality was the only thing that wins Nadal against Gasquet, then Gasquet should be doing good against other non-physical players. But that too is not the case.
Gasquet would be nothing better on grass than clay against Nadal. He doesn't have the skills of grass tennis. Hios best surface is clay. Doesn't take the ball early and that's why stands way behind the BL just like Nadal.

Re: Day 7 French Open predictions
That's because you do not understand the dynamics of tennis. One may have a great game, if not fit enough, there is nothing one can do. Look at the FO 08 final. Cause federer was not tip top form that year and tired because of a 5 setter semi v Monfils, Federer is completely crushed versus Nadal....even if Federer had many more skills than Nadal. One might be skilled with most players, but when it comes to handling a zippy ball (huge energy injected into the ball), then all the guile is useless. So Nadal's fitness is two folds: Power he puts into the ball and teh forcing of running if one doesn't have that "critical pace" I have been mentioning.raiders_of_the_lost_ark wrote:This is so so wrong Tenez. Gasquet is behind Nadal in every aspect of the game, every single one. And it showed the last match too where he was beaten in all aspects, winners, volleys, Serve %, everything...
It's really weird you guys don;t see that. Why was Nadal useless on other slams before they slowed everything down?
Because fitness is everything nowadays. remember when young Gasquet was the number 1 junior....not Nadal. If physicality was the only thing that wins Nadal against Gasquet, then Gasquet should be doing good against other non-physical players. But that too is not the case.
More non sense I am afraid. There is a considerable long list of average players who have lessoned Nadal on grass, espically first week when grass is/was decently fast, players that Gasquet would typically beat on grass.Gasquet would be nothing better on grass than clay against Nadal. He doesn't have the skills of grass tennis. Hios best surface is clay. Doesn't take the ball early and that's why stands way behind the BL just like Nadal.
Bizarre you can't see it's all about pace v Nadal. Look how confident and good he looks now that he plays on slow courts!
