The Wimbledon 2012 Final - Federer v Murray
I won't be watching unfortunately as I'll be travelling. However for once I feel Murray has a very good chance to win his first slam. I have always said that winning a slam, for some, requires a share of luck and for Murray who has always failed thus far v Djokovic, Federer and Nadal that luck would be presented to him the day those 3 would be out of form.
Federer has played the whole fortnight without a FH, his biggest weapon due to a bad back, and Djoko admitting himself in his post match interview was not tip top either v Federer. Murray therefore is now there with a great chance, especially knowing he has always beaten an off-form Federer, it's at h0me, in front of his crowd.
What else does he need?
I will say however that Murray deserves a slam. He reached the final 3 times before and has worked hard enough to deserve one...even if luck would play its part...like in most slam.
Under those circumstances Murray is the clear favourite and really should win but Federer has surprised me more than once and seems in a mission backed by the tennis gods who have so far sent him chockers and injured player so he can reach his final in his worse performance over a decade.
Leave your comments, I'll be reading them all on my arrival at destination

Re: The Wimbledon 2012 Final - Federer v Murray
Im amazed at the amount of people who are tipping Murray to win,Murray has yet to take a set off Roger in a grand slam.He has never beaten Roger in a major and hasnt beaten one of the top 3 player ahead of him in a major since 2010 AO,when Nadal retired, the time before that was in 08 U.S Open, thats 4 years ago
Of course Murray has improved leaps and bounds since then,he is a much better and more experienced player, but I will only believe it when I see it
Time and time again he has shown great promise on his run to the final of a tournament only to look completely out of depth when he gets there
I agree a lot of it is mental, but I dont know how he is suddenly going to over come his demons in his first Wimbledon final with the most pressure and expectation ever placed on him.He is gonna feel it on court today in front of his home crowd and with Madam coming to watch in the royal box,he knows the burden of expectation is to win.The bitter disappointment of losing wont just end there, the weight of a nations hopes potentially shattered also rests on his shoulders, and he knows how ruthless the media are,if he doesnt win its a 4th major final hes lost,he will be written off just as quickly as they built him up as a demi god,
Its now or never for him, unfortunately for him its under these circumstances, will he rise above it? Remains to be seen but going on his track record, its less likely that he would
Roger did something really special in the semi final, its the most focused and confident I have seen him in years,I find it hard to imagine that he will blow this opportunity, but thats no means a forgone conclusion
If he does struggle to find the form he played with on Friday,he wont go down without giving it his best shot
Gonna be an exciting final

But how many times have we seen there is always time for a "first one". It did not matter whether Davy, Blake, Karlo, Stepanek, etc...never won anything v Fed. Came a time they did. If Fed were in his AO2010 form, I woudl not be worried but he has been playing terrible lately.

I am not impressed by those improvements frankly. It's Federer's form that worries me.

I never thought it was actually mental...more that all the players he played in those finals he lost were simply better than him.

Agreed. We know Fed is extremely strong mentally. "mentally he is a rock" Benneteau. "his main strength is the mind" says Djokovic.

Re: The Wimbledon 2012 Final - Federer v Murray
Youre right, theres always a first for everything
I watched the semi final again and I was really impressed with the way Roger played, more so with his mental fortitude and concentration level
He is never going to emulate the form he was in during his prime,he is a step slower and far more inconsistent, but he is making up for his old age and short comings by executing the right game plan, rather then just focusing on his game,it certainly worked well against Djokovic who I think played a fairly good match
I was also worried about Rogers form, but if you just watched Fridays match and hadnt followed the tournament, you would have never thought there was reason to be worried.I mean we were worried he may not make it past the quarters, but here he is in the finals having beaten the defending champion quite convincingly,so he must be doing something right
Murray does loose to the better player, but I do think its a combination of his mental fortitude or lack there of and being out classed
I would say all the grand slam finals he played in,he played a better match in the semi final then the final, never looking like a winner in the final, was a loser from start to finish

Re: The Wimbledon 2012 Final - Federer v Murray
If Murray is a Christian which I think he may be as I saw him pray on the chair after the match, he will win this match.
Not because he is a better player (he is not and will never be) but because God will intervene. I reckon Fed's serve will go. ad Murray will have an unusual peace about him.
There you go, I've said it!

I noticed Murray hitting his forehand viciously against Nole at Boodles once or twice, will be interesting if he can maintain it for the whole match.

Fed finally gets on the scoreboard. Excellent tactics from Lendl
Murray htting the ball harder than Fed, EVEN the forehand which he is using as a weapon, at last. Very interesting.

Fed will be switching tactics now like he did for Nole: to slow his legs to a halt.
