Stealing Nadal's number 1 spot to thank him for his nice congratulating sms?

Hehe, if things went GP’s way, Fed would retire in Rotterdam.

The main reason is that it is Federer's only unfulfilled challenge left (beating Nadal on bo5 clay.

No, Roger mustn't. He must do what he did last year and say bye to the dirt at his age.

What for? a 21st slam? a 9th Wimbledon? what's the point?

Slams are the most important part of the game. And securing records is more important than entering a slam he has almost no hope of winning, and which will then knacker his body out and cost him any hope of Wimbledon. HE doesn't need the dirt titles. Esp at this stage in his career. I know you think he's got a great chance on clay and that he will blow everyone away - but he won't. He's lost at least a step from his dominating years 04-07, and will be made to rally over and over. He will lose. That's the reality, and it's why he ducked out last year. Because he knows it, as well.

Fantastic! Let's just hope he does not lose before the semis - that would be rather awkward.

Typical Krajicek
It's the extra points he wants, not that meaningless title.

It would maybe wipe them both out.
That would be Fed’s version of Nole’s win of Nadal there.
I can see your thinking clearly now, it would be a very satisfying moment indeed!

Kraj is right, Fed is playing great and feeling even better, you can’t miss that!

On second thoughts i decided to go to Rotterdam, i got myself tickets for the quarters. This must be his goodbye to the dutch fans, regardless how many years he'll be playing.
Besides: if i did the maths right, he'll become #1 if he wins the quarter and i'll be there. Nice!

Fantastic day - saw Henman v. Federer, and Ivanisevic v. Safin all players I really liked and they were two really tight 4-setters. We had a very entertaining mixed doubles match in the evening if I remember rightly (although my Wimbledon memories tend to merge as I went a lot in the 1990's and a lot more recently). I remember a very strong sense that Federer was really quite something but somehow Henman got by him. I don't think Fed gave of his best, I think he has said that he was a bit discombobulated by the fall-out from his historic win the round before. The things that stood out more than anything else to me was how good Henman was at the net, such amazing hands, and also the difference between the first and second matches was extraordinary - Henman/Federer had so much more touch than the other two and looked so much more at home. The second match was so much more of a power battle. I wish I could remember more.

Re: Rog Playing in Rotterdam!!!
I expect that if he reaches #1 in Rotterdam, he will skip Dubai - even if that meant that Rafa would reclaim #1 spot in Acapulco. The big thing is to reach #1 at his age, worrying about a few weeks here or there of keeping it thereafter is irrelevant.bogbrush wrote:I reckon if he won Rotterdam so Nadal couldn’t depose him in Mexico, he’d skip Dubai to prepare for Indian Wells.

Re: Rog Playing in Rotterdam!!!
Hopefully Fed will get to play on Monday in Rotterdam, that way he could make SF by playing Mo-We-Fr. He could then pull out of SF citing fatigue
Rotterdam has a pretty good field, so Fed might have to play one, or maybe even two, decent players to reach SF. Normally I would expect him to beat those kinds of players (e.g., maybe Tsonga, Berdych or Rublev) quite easily, but I will be nervous next week.

Some big names in the tournament.
Dimi, Zverev, Goffin, Stan, Berdych, Pouille and Tsonga. Like you say SB, could be a hard week ahead.

Ok, to become #1 again Federer needs to beat a qualifier, then Kholi / Khachanov then probably Stan.
And that would be it.
Not easy.

Of course he will! Even if he has to wheel out Mirka “Stan The Crybaby” act.
Plus he is going to be so excited and nervous, I can’t wait to see all that.
This tournament is such an awesome surprise treat.

Re: Rog Playing in Rotterdam!!!
Yeah, Rds 2&3 could provide some real opposition. I did not realize how strong the field was in Rotterdam. Still, a #1 player in the world should beat a qualifier and either Kholi/Khachanov. Stan at his best could be difficult, but he is unlikely to be anywhere near that.bogbrush wrote:Ok, to become #1 again Federer needs to beat a qualifier, then Kholi / Khachanov then probably Stan.

Fingers crossed. I will be nervous though. It feels the #1 is so close, yet if he does not make it, the door could close really fast.
