Sorry LS,
I'm simply not another Charlie...never been and never will be...
But, yes, of course it was a wonderful day for them.

Re: Tennis News
Stanislas Wawrinka's wife, Ilham, has issued a stinging statement in response to his announcement that the two were separating.
The TV presenter married Wawrinka in 2009 just before the two had a daughter, Alexia. The couple separated temporarily in 2010 before reconciling.
The statement was described as one intended to clarify the circumstances. "No, Stan does not lose matches because of our separation, said to be painful, because it has been already five months since his triumphant return at Davis Cup," she said in French. "His decision to leave, for the second time, his family did not stop him from to winning the tournament in Chennai and having more or less, very good results.
"No, trips and tournaments are not the cause of our separation. Besides, other players, ranked higher than him, handle family life very well. His instability, desire to regain his freedom—at all levels—are the source. And I have to admit the repeated fibs and emotional betrayals eventually destroyed entirely the confidence I had in him."

You probably all heard about Federer complaining about the security in teh FO when a kid wanted to take a selfie with him.

Re: Tennis News
Well IMO it begs the question why are the security guards there in the first place if they are so slow to react to a fan running on court.
Incidents like this have happened too many times to keep quiet about it e.g. 2009 final, 2013 final.

I do not think he is overreacting. Bad things can happen as Seles had experienced and knowing the security is lax could weigh on his mind enough to disturb his focus.

It's fair to say that Fed is very safe in RG, Paris is no Hamburg. He should know that.
Having said that, however funny it usually is when weirdos run onto a tennis court (and that is such a very, very rare thing considering the number of matches played all the time), they should not be allowed under any circumstances.
Although a public event with thousands of people watching, tennis court is a player's private space.
Pros get used to ballboys, umpires, silence...it becomes a home for their soul and a stranger burst in, it probably feels like a burglary to them.
I also think Fed was not in a good mood that day, as he had just realised how slow the court played.
He certainly looked very grumpy.
I think Nole would not have reacted that way, at least not publicly.

Yes and the spirit has changed over the years. More recently many more would do anything to get noticed and it's fair to "extremism" is more common, hence his concern. I find not so much in France, which is why I like it there. In general, people have happy, balanced lives: they don't slave at work, eat great food every day, their children are child-like and free, good family life...no need for weirdness!Tenez wrote:Yes and the spirit has changed over the years. I remember two years ago, the young lady who checks tickets let me go to a better, different seating section from my ticket as there were empty seats there...just plain common sense, no way that would happen in Wimbledon where they even confiscated my well-travelled Serbian flag "for health and safety" reasons...
The staff in RG are all young people, exceptionally polite and helpful.

Re: Tennis News
Yes, a good one.
Again, I was shocked to see his physique in 2005, (how old was he 18?) next to Zidane...pure steroid beefcake, and nobody said a thing....
....."Other than forcing an opponent to run like a rabbit, Nadal has an array of tricks which can prove even more devastating when mixed with a dash of clay.
Wilander still sounds awe-struck as he speaks about a practice session he had with Nadal before one of his Roland Garros finals.
"I have never experienced anything like it," he says. "I could not believe the amount of spin - top spin, side spin, inside out, hook spin - I never got used to it."
Federer, the winner of 17 Grand Slam titles, but 13 times a loser against Nadal on clay, sums it up like this:
"Clay just helps his game overall because he's the best mover we've ever seen on clay. Because of his sliding, he saves a lot of metres. I think what always shows up is his mental strength and his physical strength: even if you play great, he can still beat you and that's what makes him the legend he is today."
Yes...and I wonder what those "tricks" are in his bag, or rather dr Fuentes' bag...
All tennis players before him have been so stupid...
Nadal and Toni suddenly discovered the way to beat the law of gravity in tennis: you don't make the player run like a rabbit, you run like a rabbit instead!

Just saw this about some FIFA bribery scandal (one of the reasons I stopped following football ages ago)
Andy Murray:
"'I wouldn't say that many people were surprised by it. It's good for sport in a way when that stuff happens, because people have kind of talked about it for a long time.'
People have suggested that there was some corruption going on there. So, yeah, now they are going to do a proper investigation into it and see what happens after that.''
What's going on?

Thanks LS.
Sep Blatter...the very man I stopped watching football for...the hog is finally on the spit!
Well, better late than never, even though it's way, way too late...that man has done so much harm.
And look at him, clinging onto the cliff with his fingernails, like his life depends on it...power must be a potent drug is all I can say...they are all the same, aren't they?
Can't leave gracefully, it has to be kicking and screaming.
Sadly, I've been disillusioned with the state of sport and corruption for so long, I know it's dead, and not even this news is getting me excited.
Anither scumbag will replace him.

Sure it's corrupt but it's not the US who are going to put things right suddenly. It's probably the most corrupt country in the world yet they feel they are going to put the world right!luvsports! wrote:It's like Lance but worse.
The fact is their motivation is to take control once again and dictate in the future who is going to have the WC and who won't.
I would not mind any country trying to sort the corruption in FIFA....except for the US. This country is rotten to the bone by the lobbies and until they sort themselves out, they should mind their own business!

I saw some and have not been impressed actually. His shots look very weak. Clearly topsinning with a 90inch racquet was not a good idea, especially on grass where the ball skids a bit more. This bigger frame is such an advantage. The fact he managed to win that year with a bad back and a small frame is pretty impressive. But clearly he coudl have been out to Benneteau and everybody woudl be talking how he declined since 2007.

Some of the best tennis played by Federer hr ends up losing. AO 09 or 12 semi v Nadal is quite impressive.
There is of course all those WTF wins in 2010 and 2011..pretty good there thanks to the low bounce.

Becker is really a piece of sh@t. I don;t think it is said clearly in this article but in its french version (from his book) he goes on saying that Fed build his smooth and friendly image to cash in with teh sponsors but that there is another side to him.
I don't suspect there is a darker side of federer. But I doubt that money was his motive to shape such "friendly" image.
I never coudl stand Becker (and Connors), Unlike Federer their darker side was way too obvious to me. Two cheats (Becker was one of the first steroid users) and full of gamesmanship.

Re: Tennis News
I saw this yesterday:
"Since I have read multiple lies or incorrect media interpretation about my opinion of Roger Federer, allow me to tell everyone that I have deep respect towards him as a player, man and legend of our sport. In fact, I'd like to think we are friends"
http://www.b92.net/sport/rolandgarros2015/vesti.php?yyyy=2015&mm=06&dd=11&nav_id=1003257
Becker is obviously trying to sell his book which will probably be a lot more interesting than all today's boring PR-ed press conferences...
I don't have any strong views on him, actually find him funny.
As a player I saw him as a red albino jumping around grass, as a BBC commentator an eager German with an anti-sense of humour, and now as a coach as an old clown who has discovered a new lease of life trying to cash in on his name.
He's probably thinking: if all these clones and mediocre players can make all this silly money, why can't I?

It's only interesting if what he says is true. If the guy cheated on the court, I am sure he can now lie to sell more copies. I am pretty convinced that without Becker Djoko would have had exactly the same record as with Becker. In other words Becker is utterly useless and the fact Vajda is back as a coach proves that Djoko doesn't trust Becker. I don't know why he keep giving him some of his money.noleisthebest wrote:I saw this yesterday:

Re: Tennis News
I think Becker has improved Nole's FH and volleys. Maybe even serve.
That was all on display last Wimbledon.
He's realised clocking miles on his legs covering all corners of the court won't give hime a long career as we can see with Nadal.
So, they are all doing what they can to adjust and improve.
Stan's RG display will certainly encourage other players.
Wimbledon should be interesting: upsets in week one and maybe even surprise semi and finalists?
Provided they are healthy Cilic, Kyrgios a few others...nothing's set in stone any more and that's exciting.

Re: Tennis News
Serbia's DC captain who is quite outspoken criticised and blamed Becker for Nole's limp display in the final.
He thought Becker sat on the bench like a disinterested old man instead of trying to snap his player out of emotional crisis (what I called being frozen the other day).
He also said there are too many people in that box giving him different inputs and pressuring him.
But all generals are wise after the battle...
I think Becker's fitted into that emotionally closely knit circle but he'll never be quite one of them 100%.
That's how I explain Vajda next to Becker.

Rublev accused of intimidating and threatening players, not very good.....
In a translation of the letter by BA Tennis World, Renzo said, "As some of you know, today I lost in the second round of the Moscow Challenger and I would like to make a public complaint and thus also have possibility of it getting to the ATP. I am disappointed with what happened during today’s match, in which the rival played against the rules a couple of times, and threatened me. I am disappointed because the umpires don’t make the decisions that they should. We also make mistakes, and we pay for them, literally. However, the umpires don’t…"
"Breaking the rules is something that’s wont to happen now and then. I admit to having made mistakes, too, and to have broken rules sometimes. But to receive threats during a match, when the rules state that the match should be suspended, this I don’t tolerate."
Renzo did not specify exactly what had occurred. The Argentine added that the umpire had been "very conscious" of what had happened, but did nothing. In addition, he also said that someone in the crowd grabbed him following the match but others were able to fend them off.

Yes...it was annoying trying to find scores and results, but I didn't notice it much as I really enjoyed Eurosport player and all the matches/courts available.
I can live with tournament websites (only just)...
ATP is the key one that will be annoying week in week out.
I am already missing the home screen with the results of all live matches at the top...now...just a sea of useless photos and all the information needed buried underneath 50 clicks...it's a real pain!
