If he carries this form on - no-one can beat him. He has to keep this up - esp if he's against cilic in the final.

I've never seen a player as good as Federer at returning huge serves. No-one. Krgios earlier this year came up against a god. Same thing here. Roddick was pasted and would have won multiple slams without Federer thwarting him. Sampras would have suffered the same outcome more often than not.

Fed will beat Berd easily and even if it's a struggle, Berd will choke at the most important juncture.

Ok, now I'm in disbelief
You go back to early January and I was just hoping he'd play the Australian. Now we're where we are.
Please, don't snatch this from us.

Frankly, I don't care
I'll happily declare myself a tennis prediction clown if he wins this.
However, we go back to pre-Australian Open and I kind of think I might have company....... fair enough?

I predicted he would reach a final and come back fresh - but I thought his days of winning slams were gone.

lol a run which he MADE LOOK EASY. He had the hardest draw of all. It's fitting that he at least got away with having to play Djok!

Deal deal, January after he lost Brisbain, I thought a 1 or 2 SF in Slams, maybe a Master in US, and he would chase some more ATP500s, thats about it.

What do you make of teh conds GP on Monday? There was none of those high bouncing Nadal shots we could see when playing Khacha for instance.gallery play wrote:damp is good, for an attacker. more skidding of the ballDaniel wrote:There goes your theory, Tenez

It might be due to Gilles flatter shots as well of course...but everything seemed to Rush Nadal more than in Week1.

ES:
Raonic 4-6 2-6 (4)6-7 Federer
Federer inches ahead with a drop-shot and OH MY DAYS! OH MY EXPLETIVE DAYS! Raonic plays to the forehand corner, the ball is behind Federer and the line is covered, yet somehow he bends the ball onto the top of it! Wow! This is Michaelangelo, this is Matisse, this is George Eliot, and very soon Federer has two match points! He takes the second, that's seven of eight points, and what an absurd human being he is. We are privileged to be living in his time, and how on earth is anyone going to stop him winning yet another Wimbleon, yet another Slam? They are not.

That's as graceful a description as Raonic's footwork...

Today Federer referred to the lower temperature, thus more air resistance. But on screen a court shows it's speed right after the bounce. At least for me it is. The grass looks more juicy now, which could mean lower bounce and optically faster. Besides the rise of decent grasscourt players like Muller, Cilic and Querrey, Federer looks a reborn player this week.
So yes: in my view the conditions are faster now.
Nevertheless: i'm still baffled Nadal chose to stay so far back against Muller throughout the match. That was a losing tactic, regardless the conditions

Good. Nadal being pushed was also a clue about court pace (or Gilles).
Anyway. Amazing this jaw dropping tennis feom Federer .....14 years on.

Time for me to ramp up my pessimism.
Berdych held match point in their last meeting at Mami. I know, Miami isn't Wimbledon but I put it out there....

Yeah and between pills and operation, chosen pills, will take a break now.
Load of crap, he is getting worst than Nadal with these injury explanations.

I believe this actually. First you could tell he lost precision in his shots (for having had tennis elbow for years that's the first thing that goes) and only such injury can explain such a sudden drop of level from holding the 4.gallery play wrote:So Djokovic reveals he has a bad elbow for a year and a half..

he played it as if the championship depended on it. You can tell he is on extra pressure to spend as little energy as possible....but he plays as if he had no pressure.
Again being able to raise his game at will. Really amazing.
It's going o be an intense Friday...and hopefully Sunday too.

In order to get the double minibreak back, he hit 2 returns with high risk/low percentage. So can also say: he wasn't afraid to lose the set, or afraid to play a long match.
He won't panic if he loses a set upcoming matches

In any case he did his best not to lose that set. I just remember Wimby and USO 15 where he only lost one set i believe in 12 matches, yet arrives quite tired in the final and lost to Djoko.gallery play wrote:In order to get the double minibreak back, he hit 2 returns with high risk/low percentage. Sure we have the AO 17 as an odd one but lets not forget he has 2 days rest there before the final.
Anyway, Berdych will be fresh on Friday so let's hope Federer gets very rested cause when he is not, Berdych can hurt him.

Re: Wimbledon Day 10 MENS QUARTER FINALS
Federer needs that zippiness in the Courts to hurry Berdych, who needs a lot of wind up on his shots. Hopefully the courts will retain their life.
If he can get past a Berdych I'm really hoping for Sam to be in the other side. I'm not saying Cilic is so brilliant but he has very dangerous weapons, Sam is more an up & down player.

Re: Wimbledon Day 10 MENS QUARTER FINALS
Berdych has not beaten Federer in their last 7 encounters. In those last 7 matches, Berdych won 2 sets out of 18 sets!!! Last time berdych beat fed was 2013 when Fed had known back problems.
Though the bad news is that Berdych had match point in their last match.
Indeed I think Sam is much less dangerous than Cilic.....However a Fed v Cilic final could be exciting.
