fed played pretty well till 4/2 first set. not great but ok. The game he loses is really down to unusual mistakes.

He also missed a few close FHs, I remember one 2nd serve return he went for at 00:30 in particular...all the little things that turn a match.

But as you said so often, if TDs really want him, they could help by providing faster balls.

Nadal seems to be toast, so it's not like they need dead ones any more.

I'm hurting a lot.
This will take days to recover.
Damn it why am I so emotionally invested in my hero!? I know. OY VEY IT HURTS!
I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'm not an irrational person. I hate it when people obsess over football teams and things like that, so I feel like a hypocrite.

I missed the last two sets, and when I got back, I'd already resigned myself to the fact that Djokovic was holding the trophy, I knew he'd won it, and I was ok. When I turned on the TV though, and saw it, it was a different matter. I'm not sure if I felt so drained after last year's final, I doubt it considering how much this has hit me. I had to hide my tears from the rest of my family all through last night. I know it's nothing 'serious' but I can't help it.

This is 2008 all over again, except this time, I don't have the luxury of knowing we have about 7 more years to watch him play and cheer him on. We've already reached that point….

Very nice post Polly!

I was in a very bad mood too yesterday. I agree, it's sillybut almost everytime federer loses those big occasions I feel it's the earthy powers winning over the heavens ones. Darkness wins over light!

But then I make an effort accepting the outcome. It's always for the best in the long term.

Exactly, which is why I'm so glad I went to work today. Didn't have any desire to go at all, dare I say it, didn't even make much of an effort, but came back in a better mood! Life goes on, but still, before yesterday, this year's Championships was one of the best in a while, what a way to spoil a party. One to forget I'm afraid.

Everything else is beautiful creation given to us to ease the pain. So I take Roger as a gift to be enjoyed.
Winning  is irrelevant.

Just saw the end of the first set again.....Fed was teh first with 2 SPs!!!!

What a shame really. It woudl have given a different tone to the rest of the match.

Federer was superior in the first set and was unlucky to lose it.
That made a big difference not so much to him as to Djokovic who relaxed and started pounding the SBH.
He knew he had it in the bag then.

2nd set was a swan's song from Fed for that final.

Credit to him for fighting to the end even though he knew he lost the match.

The crowd did not help a lot after the second set and that also may have contributed. They were waiting for the score to latch on rather than carry him regardless.

Had he won the first set...he would've had a very good chance of winning the match.

For me, being there it was the momentum that emerged as I never saw/felt it before.

It was like a living thing with a beating pulse and a mind of its own swerving its mysterious ways around the court.

Like a higher power controlling everything inside it.

You don't see the emotional intensity of TV close-ups, but, being there in the real time you feel so mortal and little, together with the players.

The media will spin their yarns and make stories of losses and victories, but what happened there in those three hours was not a black and white 1d disposable front page of a newspaper.
