(Stupid/Quirky) Tennis Rules
We think we know tennis rules, but I've just learnt a new one (the hard way!) today...
I was playing a doubles match and my partner who was standing a good foot behind the base-line was hit in the chest by the opponent's wild shot.
The ball didn't even bounce!
Guess whose point it was?
Naturally, there was quite a bit of arguing involved
Worst thing, it happened right at the beginning of the set.
To add salt to the wound, my partner even managed to serve into my lower back a few points later...
Do you have any odd tennis rules to share?
I am sure there are quite a few situations like this you have all experienced!

Re: (Stupid/Quirky) Tennis Rules
There is a rule in tennis where if you do a shot with a lot of backspin and it spins back over the net, if you are able to reach it before it bounces you can reach over the net and hit the ball into the net and you win the point.

That's a pretty crazy shot!
I thought it would be impossible until I saw the clip, normally backspin shots are low bouncing to go over the net...that surely was some fluke...
Raonic hit the ball with the racquet over the opponent's side of net anyway...
The worst is the woman who hit it fist-pumped like she intended it ...

Yes and that rule makes sense. It should be up to the player to avoid the ball. Imagine a lob with the ball falling where the player stands (outside the line) but his head or arm might be inside so catching/touching the ball would give him the point despite notknowing whether the ball coudl actally land on the ball or not. In table tennis it's different cause the ball flies faster on a shorter distance but in tennis it's not that difficult to avoid a ball when one is on the BL.
