Re: Davis cup final 2013
If Nadal had been on the list of players participating in the Serbia Open, the crowds would have been full imo.

Possibly, but people who enjoy proper tennis would have been bored.Julia Santamaria wrote:If Nadal had been on the list of players participating in the Serbia Open, the crowds would have been full imo.

I don't think we can ignore Nadal's popularity. Ultimately it might be a good thing for tennis. I don't think Pete was particularly any good for tennis either. He came, helped himself and left with us "all" with numb (and I still preferred him than Agassi so I think I am objective in saying that).
Nadal brings passion for those who support him as well as those who despise him.
Again my problem is not so much with him but the powers of the game and marketing which have turned a sport into a circus for the many reasons discussed in this forum.

But truth is, I actually AM sad, very sad.noleisthebest wrote:When all is said and done, I am not that sad about this loss.
There is a reason I didn't even want to go to Belgrade and watch the match live, although I was offered a great set of tickets.
When I was there in September and watched the match against Canada, I was again reminded that people there don't love tennis and barely deserve even this one DC from 2010.
TSS (equivalent of Serbia's LTA) is a bunch of corrupted, lazy and obese beurocrats who do nothing to promote and nourish tennis in Serbia.
They pocket 99% of cash they get from ITF and give crumbs to impoverished clubs.
The tipping point was a few monts ago when Belgrade took away the entire tennis complex Djokovic family have built near thevDanube where Serbian Open was held for a few years claiming they did not pay the water bill.
Nole invested his private money into first buying the tournament licence from Holland then built the entire Serbian Open from scratch, funded the prize money, chased players around the tour to participate in it, etc....and the people of Belgrade could not even bother to turn up and watch at some joke ticket prices...
When the tournament started, I was so proud of it, that was the first and only ever little tournament Serbia had I thought it would be loved and embraced, florish to a 500 event....but no...I ended up being shocked and embarrassed by empty stands day after day and felt so sorry for Nole who worked so hard and poured so much love back inro his hometown wanting to give the young generation the opportunity he never had, to train on nice courts in their own country, and not in a disused swimming pool or tavel abroad get into debts...
So, yes, glad for this generation of players ONLY, they won DC once, so this loss is not such a big deal.
Sad that ITF stuffed Serbian team, sad that Tipsarevic got injured, sad that Troicki was treated like a criminal with his picture given to sercurity guards not to let him in, sad that Serbian DC team mascot was also banned after Viktor joked he was going to wear it and be close to his teammates like that, sad that this is one sad, sad world.....

Yep....that's not nice at all. Maybe Djoko can try to threat to release some truth! I would love that. Bit like when Rudzeski started to threat to release names. They all came to his rescue then.

Yes that would be worth it, and although hard to imagine, still not impossible.Tenez wrote:Yep....that's not nice at all. Maybe Djoko can try to threat to release some truth! I would love that. Bit like when Rudzeski started to threat to release names. They all came to his rescue then.
I read that Nole was given a 4 hour testing treatment from ITF after Serbia's doubles DC match on Saturday.

not surprised! Djoko is not a popular player and they will give him a hard time if needs be.

Haven't they already made his life so difficult?Tenez wrote:not surprised! Djoko is not a popular player and they will give him a hard time if needs be.
When we look at advantages and favouritism Nadal has been enjoying for years now (and all he was able to win because of it), you generally, and rightly so, see Federer as the one who missed out.
But I think Nole suffered just as much.
In my books, and here I try to be as objective as possible, Nadal has nothing over him in terms of marketability, he is inferior in every possible way: talent, tennis, character, looks, not the mention the odious bodily antics.
I have noticed Nole has changed since he dropped from number one and is more himself now, and he is appearing to be angry.
That last reply to WADA boss said everything, and I hope that's not the last we hear about it.
If anyone decides to pull the plug out and blow the whistle , it will be Nole, he has had to work so hard from the day he first picked up his racquet compared with all his peers.
I'll never forget the look he gave to Nadal after the coin toss at USO final, Nole has had enough, and although I can't imagine him speaking out yet, he is pretty darn close with this Troicki case.
He is one very proud character.

^You think he's a doper NITB, no?
Do you think he'll pull the plug out and blow the whistle on himself then??
Bizzare double standards, read my article on the tennis page for more.

Re: Davis cup final 2013
He always looks directly at his opponent during the coin toss; infact after the USO final they hugged so it was hardly impolite or mean from Djokovic.I'll never forget the look he gave to Nadal after the coin toss at USO final, Nole has had enough, and although I can't imagine him speaking out yet, he is pretty darn close with this Troicki case.
He's annoyed with the Troicki case because he thinks the ITF are too harsh with missed blood tests (well he thinks they were harsh on Troicki), and he's annoyed his friend has been banned for so long, which also costed them the Davis Cup.
If Nadal had been expressing concern as to why Verdasco or another Spaniard was banned for missing a drugs test, and he was also annoyed because he knew it would cost them the Davis Cup potentially, there is NO NO WAY ON EARTH you would be standing up for Nadal.
