Terrible to see Gasquet gone physically when it was Stan who took the MTO.

Super point from Gasquet for BP
Seems he plays his best, attacking tennis when he's run out of gas like Nole

Its was always inevitable that this would happen, its always the same thing with Gasquet,he can be up 2 sets serving for the match and still end up losing the match or going the distance
He likes faffing about playing half heartedly for long periods at a time while manipulating the crowd to feel sympatheitc towards him when he knows he could have closed the match out way earlier
He has to be the biggest underachiever this past decade

Nadal will crush the beautiful tennis from either Gasquet or Waw like an elephant in a porcelain cabinet. Something like 6-2 6-2 6-1

Very true Vee. So typical of him....In fact his best performance was when he was 2 sets and a break down and found himself with nothing else to lose....played his best tennis and went on to win.
Poor Norman ...the crowd cheering must remind him so much of that Guga FO final he played. He was on teh wrong end again.

I have never been quite too sure whether serving 1st in the 5th set was a distinct advantage.
Now I know it does. If you stuff it up, you can always come back in the return game.

Gasquet still playing great shots but there's no point for him to progress to the quarters.
Waw at least wil be able to win a few games per set against NAdal

At this stage, I'd get a new coach if I were Gasquet, someone who can get into his brain and rearrange a few bits, like make him do 50 push-ups every time he goes over 1m behind the base-line.

If you were as keen on following Tommy's fitness as you seem to be on Novak's you'd have worked it out a while ago....

He strikes me as one of those kinds of people who takes his talent for granted...he knows as well as everyone else that he is easily the most talented player in the draw after Federer and I get the feeling he is one of those kinds of people who loves to hear about how talented his is and how brillaint he can be and loves all the attention that comes with being a "frustrated talent"
I dont get why someone would do something so half heartedly, especially tennis that takes such hard work and dedication
All the other players have a deep passion for the game

A coach won't buy him a brain and a heart. He has the shots but stands too far back. He has talent but not talented enough to take the ball earlier....or rather no guts to do so. Had stuck to the baseline like Federer he woudl have developed the timing by now. No grace either, a talented monkey though.

He strikes me as one of those who needs to do as he is told. He needs Toni Nadal type of guy as a coach, cut out the frills and get on with it. And I am sure Toni would keep him right-handed and make a wonderful attacker from him.Veejay wrote:

I dont think uncle Toni would know how to coach REAL talent
God just imagine that, a shot maker like Gasquest transformed into a 1 dimensional moonballer,
Just when you thought he was the biggest under achiever....

Thats all drugs and racket technology,I dont think uncle Toni is someone who has a deep enough understanding of the game, the kind that would develop a talent like Gasquest's to achieve his full potential,
I also seriosuly disagree with his method of coaching,no kid would be able cope with the grip he has on Nadal, not to that extent and certainly not for so long
They will crack under the intense pressure,it only works for them cause he is a family member
Coahcing isnt about ruling with the iron rod,its about teaching someone how to think for themselves,to make someone find that will to want to stive to be the best they can be and then guide them. That comes from within, you cant teach someone anything otherwise
Its clear someone like Federer had great choaches as he could play without one,Nadal cant even go a match with being coahced from the stands

But even more than the talent aspect, the fighting drive is more important and NO coach could ever teach Gasquet that. Nadal has that, Gasquet does not. That is what makes Nadal a great and Gasquet a mug.

Nadal is not talentless. No matter how much you may dislike him saying he is talentless is crazy. He does not have the shot variation or natural talent of a Federer but to say he is untalented is wrong imo and makes Federer look like an idiot, i.e. Federer one of the greatest talents of all time in tennis could not figure out how to beat a talentless pusher on the biggest stages. You are not doing Federer any favours by saying Nadal is talentless.

Toni does have a deep understanding of the game you are incorrect about that imo and no coach could ever teach Gasquet to achieve his full potential. It is not within Gasquet. You either have it or you don't and that is what separates greats from good players.
