Can Dimitrov Win Madrid 2013?
Last night, Grigor Dimitrov beat the main favourite for Madrid title, World Number One, Novak Djokovic.
"Why not go even further in this tournament?", Dimitrov said at the end of his post-match interview:

What do you think, can he go all the way?

but there I was kidding of course however I think that he can certainly take the top by storm.
Did not I say that the youngsters will start to beat the top players this year? It has to be done in slams too as this is what I meant but I think under the right conditions they can.
Winning Madrid would be difficult but what you can see however is that he is learning a lot from those encounters with the top players. It is unvaluable experience and knowing he can beat them can serioulsy help grow wings. When Federer realised he coudl beat the top players, he became unstoppable. Unlike Hewitt, Murray Nadal and Djoko, Federer and Dimi have real weapons besides the fitness and this is what makes a big difference when all those guys reach their peak. The beep beep win by battling hard, the more talented players simply take off and leave them behind...until the next physical monster comes along.

I would be surprised if he makes it past stan 2bh (if he beats giraldo but probs will). So often a big win is followed up by a disappointing loss.
Hopefully he can emulate what JJ did in Paris, but i can't see it.

T, you are beginning to worry me
I can see all Federer's weapons very clearly, not so with Dimi. Didn't he work hard to earn his win last night?
From what I could see with him, he is yet to find his attacking vein and sort out his game by cutting out all the defending. He is doing too much of it to be put in the same sentence with Federer!
He is to happy rallying and I hope he does not get stuck in that rut.
Maybe that has to be the case because of the current playing conditions, but I can't help believing that if a real prodigy came along he'd just cut through everyone.
He may do it, but I am not convinced until he does. I think he is good but media are pushing him beyond what he is able to deliver at the moment.
A win over a top player here and there is great, but it needs to be followed up.
He looks good when he goes forward and should do it a lot more, make it his habit. That is the way to beat smug base-liners.

Interesting point!
Dimitrov has a very similar cocky streak as Nole and that is going to be very useful for him on the tour. Dimi actually REALLY believes and that's great.
No losses are going to stop him. I actually CAN see him win Madrid. Not easy, but not impossible. Not because of weapons, fitness etc, it's his belief that will make all the difference. That is his main weapon that ALL the other youngsters lack, Raonic is the worst of all in that area.
Obviously, his groundstrokes are good, can be improved, the serve is there etc etc, and at the moment, it's all up in the air waiting to click together. It must be very exciting for him and his team.
Good of him to "come back" after that initial surge that earnt him the Baby Federer nickname, where he really tried to copy even the way Federer looked. He loves playing and that is his next best weapon. People concentrate too much on this and that and ignore these very important ingredients.
From my point of view, at least

He has weapons. It is pretty obvious but of course he has no choice to cslug it out but he does not play to just retireve and considering he has a SHBH, on clay his attacking is going to be limited yet he was trying dictate but Djoko is very good turning defense into attack and this is why Dimi had to cover lots of ground.
What I like about Dimi is that he acknowledge that Djoko was not on top form and is a real sign of lucidity...unlike Berdych who does not see further than the tip of his racquet!

I would love to see Fed vs Dimi final in Madrid, and will enjoy it irrespective of who wins in the end. But sure its a long road for the young man, but who knows.
And its a long road for the old man too .

An article from the journalist who saw nothing for years but suddenly woke up in the Miami final.
Yet he still sees Murray as extremely talented....not realising that Murray struggle against almost any journey player until the distance makes the difference!

Amazing that they have not played yet against each other. But Fed is still a much better version when on form.In fact it is when comparing similar players that we can see how much better one is over the other. Fed is sharper, times the ball better and of course moves still better.
It's bit like Misha or Stan very often able to trouble Nadal and Djoko but when compared to the better version of themselves, Federer in form, it's not that close....Though Stan certainly did get closest.

LOL, how did that prediction work out for you? What belief does Dimitrov have, he has yet to win even one ATP title!

He had a shoulder problem apparently. He could have lost to Falla 1st round if falla had not retired with tendinitis.
