I don't know what was better, but the serve was beautiful and so was the forehand, bursting with confidence, Nole really happy with his performance, as he should be. Very sharp.
Good at the net, playful, made Harrison look like a ball machine.
BRAVO NOLE!!!!!
Exactly, I am sorry for Stepanek already now. He will be melted as a tin soldier. If I was Step and during the match was dismantled I would rather retire than being completely crashed in regard to his body.

Apparently Step is not going to roll out as a doormat and has a plan for Nole

Step is all mouth and confident, but just now. He says that he will try to find a Nole´s weakness. I really like his enthusiasm and need to say that he at 34 is optimistic as he has never been before. but

Two done 5 to go!
Good old Step played his heart out and made the math very watchable, three close sets were really most he could do today.
Nole was sharp, his backhand better than ever and forehand very smooth, versatile and confident.

Also Stepanek says that Nole is the best after match. Everyone must get a lesson to learn it.
Jim Courier was funny by saying that some players do not go to the net so often for the whole year as Stepanek did with Nole in their match, it was 67 times

Yes, Stepanek played really well, he is so good at the net, just knows what to do every time. It was only Nole's crazy speed and brilliant passing shots that won the match.
He is really amazing for his age!
It's a shame Kvitova does not have his mindset, she can learn a lot from him, she is too young to worry and feel so pressured in a match!
Nole to play the number two Swiss next ... A nice warm up for the number one (Swiss) next Sunday!

Yes, credit for Step also how he played due to his intercostal muscles problems. He even considered to give up playing at AO on Saturday.
Kvitova struggles with asthma and often she suffers from healthy troubles. Her game is just based on serve and risky shots, but with poor stamina. So on her good day she is brilliant, but if not then she is an average player without any consistency.

That was a tough one for Nole today, very, very tough!
He squeezed through by the skin of his teeth, you've got to have days like this, too I suppose.
This match should give him the confidence to cross the finish line. I don't think he'll get a sterner test even from Federer in the final.
BRAVO NOLE
4 down, 3 to go

That win will make Nole titanium. Berd plays in very good shape, serves really well and has much to pay back. He waits for his chance, so I expect very tough one again.

Yes, Berd will definitely try his chances. He'll need his A+ game to come anywhere near where Stan was today, though. The sped-up courts are definitely giving everyone a better chance and rewarding risky play and I can't complain
The only player in the top half that won't suffer tonight will be Murray who plays a half-dead Simon in the next.Fed will have his work cut out with if Raonic starts to serve well.

Congratulation to Nole!! Berd also needed a lesson to learn who is the best
I could not see it but noticed that Nole started at full speed and frozen Berd´s enthusiasm. Berdych crushed.

As expected, Nole does a quick one against Ferrer. No need to waste any extra energy in hot & humid night playing conditions.
Should be fresh as a daisy for the final.
Third consecutive AO final, and God willing, some history making on Sunday.
Well done, Nole
6 done, one to go!

I am quite astonished by such a quick action by Nole. One and half hour and David in a shower
There is no player on tour to outplay Ferru at the moment this way. Great win for Nole, well done

Re: NOVAK DJOKOVIC: The Fan Club
I found this a great summary of today's match:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=qx6-bFicmZg
"Djokovic’s 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 win was less like a Grand Slam match against the world No. 4 than it was an exhibition of everything that the Serb can do on a tennis court. Djokovic hit winners from both sides and to both corners, and his pace and court position were such that he didn’t even have to put the ball close to the lines to get it past the speedy Ferrer. The stats, as you might expect, were impressive. Djokovic was seven for seven on break points, made 86 percent of his returns, won 91 percent of points on his first serve and lost just seven points in 11 service games against a very good returner, went 13 of 16 at the net, and hit 30 winners against 16 errors. As forFerrer, the only number he could point to as a positive was 89: That’s how many minutes this mercifully brief blowout took."

Thanks David for those 89, there are worse things than that, many can not get even play on this stage with Nole

I have been waiting for a Nole AO song to come to me for two weeks.
I nearly gave up.
But, like always before, the wind didn't let me down:

GO NOLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
...and now that the song is here, I hate it!

So many complimentary articles in newspapers about Nole´s triumph that I hope that he will not slacken in his effort. No, he won't for sure. All our players praise him and congratulated him for his performance. Great Nole

tbh, I can't wait for clay season, I've already had enough of hard courts from AO.
Now Indian Wells and Miami....Dubai....strange set up with the ATP calendar, they should all happen BEFORE AO, not after...
I don't know how Nadal managed to find some clay tournaments now...
I still don't believe he'll turn up there....not even disguised as a woman....as if he needs any disguise with that moonballing

Honolulu's younger women can have a good practise with him, Honolulu is a paradise for moonballers t
Tony had to look for the clay tournament on our whole Earth intensively. I would not be surprised if they organize the tournament the first time. Circus is going to start soon

That is not a bit fair from Nole. He is going to play against Belgium and left a last year QF of DC in Prague. Hopefully Czech and Serbia will move to the next round and they will play against each other
The match in Belgium will not be easy. Troicki against Goffin and Rochus will probably lose, so it will just depend on Nole. To play on clay in February it is dreadful. I do not see what Belgians think by that chosen clay, as if the clay should help them. Oh no, they can not move in later phases of DC anyway. So, their players should have been a bit beyond the surface.

Yes, it's a tough change from hot Australian hard-courts, back to minus degrees indoors clay....it doesn't get crazier than that...and to think that some people here were saying how Nole is not patriotic because he lives in Monte Carlo and doesn't pay tax in Serbia

Congratulation to Nole for his performance in Dubai and wish him to play with such a confidence in IW next week and so on
I am looking forward to see also unrelenting Murray and believe that the winner will be between Nole and Andy again.
My the most wishful matches are between Murray and Morybundus and Fed with Nole or Berd again, as always.
These matchups are going to be real challenges for the actors.
Nole, come on

Yes, that was another number 4 in Nole's books this year: first 4th AO and now 4th Dubai title, not bad, catching up with Rog fast and counting! !
Nole is also unbeaten this year and has a 13 matches winning streak.
I look forward to IW and Miami very much as those courts are where it all started for Nole in 2007 in style!
These tournaments are his bread and butter just like clay has (so far) been for Nadal.
Great spring full of hope lies ahead for Nole fans, I'll need to stock up on that champagne and fast!!!!

Re: NOVAK DJOKOVIC: The Fan Club
Some here have mocked me mid last year for claiming Novak was in deep personal trouble.
Here's a little insight into what happened, but a lot still left unsaid for the media:
"He was very close to dying. For last six months it was tough time for him and for the whole family. But he managed to push it through with the support of close ones and because he’s also a very mentally very tough person. I think the desire to live and to spend times with the close ones helped him to overcome the illness. I went through difficulties in my private family life and professional life that I needed to cope with and that have taken a lot of energy from me in both physical, emotional, mental way, and I have straightened those things out"
The truth is Srdjan had severe case of blood poisoning which has background that most likely won't reach media.

Bottles of wine have been stored and looking forward to next week to see great tennis. I really like the moments when you see a player after a couple of weeks, when you do not know what a form they have, what their mindsets send out.
Let'see what the next matches will tell us.

Re: NOVAK DJOKOVIC: The Fan Club
Congratulation to Nole for his great performance with JoWi. Nole served brilliantly during the match. I think that was his best serving session ever. Still two matches to go, come on Nole

Looks like Nole finally focused from start to finish, I'll watch it on replay later.
Glad his serve is better and better. Looks like wome wine is on cards on Sunday

I wish to Nole to get his body together soon and hope he will be ready for coming matches. Tennis season is at the beginning and clay season will be very tough.noleisthebest wrote:Looks like Nole finally focused from start to finish, I'll watch it on replay later.

Re: NOVAK DJOKOVIC: The Fan Club
No toasting today, Paul
I don't think there's anything wrong body-wise with Novak in terms of injuries.
From what I can see, he has lost even more weight and is now borderline thin for tennis.
He must have worked a lot on his fitness and stamina and lost the core weight that he needs desperately in order to sustain week in week out efforts esp on these slow courts.
He lost the battle of energy in last night's match, despite Delpo being the bigger guy who should in theory tire much quicker.
Novak played his forehand aggressively in the first set and then withdrew it in the second, thinking he could get away with it and that Delpo would fold, but he didn't. Then in the third he started hitting it hard and flat but only a few rallies and lost one of the big ones, which was very disappointing (I think that was in the 2nd set actually).
After the match he said he wasn't moving well, but my observation was that something in his blood levels must have gone down (sugar or electrolytes) because he was making some very uncharacteristic for him bad shot selections quite a few times. As if he was a different player, totally switched off.
Something was definitely bothering him during the whole tournament, he just wasn't his old self.
I don't think he likes Ellison much, and I'm glad he denied him his marquee final with Nadal today.
No wonder Williams sisters boycott him, as well as Llodra this year, too.
Other players who can't afford to turn down his big prize money go there for the cash, but I get the feeling there is a lot of things going on there behind closed doors which the players, who are not stupid all know and feel.
We now move on to Miami, which I always preferred to IW, but not by much.
Tbh, I can't wait for this Yank concrete jungle stretch to finish. Nole will be returning there though for Davis Cup against USA in a few weeks, though.
So....not the best of weeks for Nole fans, but we have been a bit spoilt by him, haven't we

Agree Nitb, for toasting we have another candidate , don't we
Your perceptions from Nole's match are absolutely correct, as always . I did not want to twiddle too much in his match, but Nole was going out of his sorts to the match end. It was obvious that Nole was not going to win it. He struggles with his elbow tendon. That can be quite a longterm issue and pretty painful.I know that from own experiences (these terrible old heavy graphite rackets). It was visible on his serve, all FH hits including volleys resulted in many UEs (some balls ended up a meter behind the lines). So, from that point of view, we can be glad that it happened in a way how it was. Let's hope that Nole will overcome his trouble and will be fit for RG. Now, it is questionable if his new racket suits him well or if his elbow rotation when serving and playing FH does not cause him a trouble. Nole showed his potential and his best surely edges all others on most surfaces. Let's hope that Nole will be fine soon. Except Nole, I do not see anybody who can beat Moribundus on clay.

Re: NOVAK DJOKOVIC: The Fan Club
I saw that strapping or blue tape above the elbow, thing with Nole, he will never moan about any injuries (come to think of it only Mori moans non-stop, everyone else keeps quiet and tries to hide any problems they may have).
I hope it's nothing serious as the season's barely started. He was strapped like that quite often in the past on his shoulder and the back.
My diagnosis is he has to put back some weight on, about 5kgs if he wants to compete healthily in these slow conditions.
His legs are perfect but the upper body is amazingly lean and narrow for the kind of tennis he would ideally love to play and we can see he is trying it.
We should be able to find out more in Miami.
The funniest thing is, in IW, everyone was basically injured Nole, Fed, Murray, Delpo, Tsonga...the only one who moans non-stop about being injured and in pain is the fittest, healthiest and strongest of them all
