Thiem is certainly as "creative" as Nadal. If it was not for his SHB he would be as boring and you right a copy of Nadal.

I'd love a Shapo Rublev final. Some of the rallies they played in their previous match were amazing and window of what future tennis will be.

Medvedev is on great form, he crushed Tiafoe 6-4 6-1 6-0 yesterday. 

I think the winner of Medvedev Thiem semi will win the tournament. I fancy Thiem in 4, the match is more on his racket.

I assume you're referring to Rublev and Shap as the most talented players left in the draw? I'm not sure they've yet proven their talents, both hard hitters who don't yet have consistency. Especially Shap, he tries to hit every ball at 100mph and can't play the percentages. I don't think he'll even get past mediocre Zverev unfortunately. 

As for overall, I agree Federer is the most talented player of all time. But I think Djokovic will, sadly, be the greatest of all time by the end of his career in terms of Grand Slam and titles won.

Coric and Zverev are the worst players out thete. Just waiting for errors.

they don't need to prove their talent. It's there to see. Hope you can see it too. Winning is now about fitness, hence consistance... But certainly not the more talented. The good thing is every now and then a talented player beats a lung busting one.

But it's not like Shap's issue is that he'll be timing the ball well, and then suddenly get tired and start misfiring. 
He's consistency fluctuates from one game to the next. On big points, his shot selection is also poor.

Not yet for me. They haven't beaten Fed/Nadal/Djo in slams and not even multiple times in B03. Their reaching finals will largely be due to the absence of the big3.
 
I don't want anyone to reach the final seats just coz its empty. I want them to dislodge the big-3 and reach those spots. Else the win will be like the WTF 2017 win of Dimi.
Among the remaining players, only Theim has done it and on multiple occasions.

You may not like his game, which is a different matter. But its a fact he has beaten them multiple times including slams. That's the bar for me which Shapo/Rublev haven't reached.

In the mean time.. Shapo goes down in set-3.. trailing 1-2 sets to Busta.

that's been the case of all talented players over the years bar Federer who has so much he can play aggressive and safe. No other has in the past. Well to that kind of level anyway.

grinders have won nearly 40 slams recently. They are the ultimate challenge and Busta made Djoko very nervous.
Shapo is a nervous player unfortunately and with a bit more composure he could have won in 3 or 4.

It's a rare thing. Djoko winning from 2 MPs down at sw19 on Fed's serve could be considered accidental champion.

I don;t want to put too much pressure on Shapo especially as I see he is very nervous. but shot and talent wise he is above the rest.

Medv is insane. He retrieves everything. No wonder Djokovic is his idol. 

Rub is nearly 2 years younger and that makes a difference tonight. At this young age it is crucial. 2 years ago Medv was a nobody.

NITB - it's rather delicious what happened. 

For months you've been the most obnoxious in-your-face SOB I've ever seen.  I dread what you'd be like if Djok somehow managed to beat Fed's records.  You're already insufferable enough about a guy you don't even know and who'll never know you.

You've been asking for something like this a long time and I hope it affects Novak psychologically so he wins bugger all else.  It would make me very happy.

The only thing I'd say is the lines woman was a total drama queen.  Made it look like she'd been hit by a cannon ball.  Perhaps she hates Novak - but it's his own fault for being a pillock thinking he's entitled to win everything.

Two things:

(a) I like Azarenka and was chuffed to see her beat Williams, who is being run through the mill big time in her quest for #24.  What looked a routine certainty after she won AO 2017 is looking anything but 3 years later.

(b) Anyone know what has been the USTA's excuse this year for piss poor scheduling whereby of the four players in the Men's SF: Zverev hasn't played since Tuesday, Carreno-Busta played on Wednesday, Medvedev played on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Thiem played on Monday and Thursday (yesterday)?

I dunno but Thiem and Medv played on the same "US" day and so did Zverev and Busta I believe. 

I don't like much their scheduling though I appreciate there are more days with mens matches in the second week than at Wimbledon for instance...even if Wimbledon is fairer on the players.

Something must be said again about this USO having 4 retrievers in the semis. 

I feel the French open will have more aggressive players at this stage.

You're mistaken, they've had the normal schedule as they do every year. Everyone has had a gap of at least 1 day between matches. Maybe you got confused looking at the matches in UK timezone which showed a different day.

Well sure if you see Nadal as an aggressive attacking player then you must see Thiem as such too. But we, the rest of the world, know that Nadal is a retriever and since you said yourself they had similar games, they are both retrievers, hence why they often end up in the business end of clay tournaments.

Not sure who is more aggressive. Nadal can generate better angles and spread the play more, but Thiem hits the ball harder.

Thiem is indeed the more aggressive. Simply by the fact he is a SBH he tries not to stay in the rally for as long but his FH is like Nadal's high and safe....even if powerful. 

Typical of lung players. The power is not in the timing/pace, it is in the spin, providing a good  compromise of pace/safety. The kind of game which can only be played with "modern diet science" if you know what I mean.

I d say Zverev as Busta will not play well the big points since Zverev can rally with more power. However if Zverev loses a set I will go with Busta.

In a way same thing with Thiem Medv. Medv in 3 or Thiem in 4 or 5.

Medv admitting he was cramping a bit before serving to stay in the 3rd set and took a second MTO in 3 games. 

I thought MTOs were not allowed for cramps. I can't stand this kind foul play. The results of years of Nadal and Djokovic domination. No qualm doing like the masters.

For that reason I will be supporting Thiem.

Second set 5:0 for Carrot and serving for the set now, Zverev with his mind on the Final of a GS now loses the SF.

Since they bigged the balls at the USO for the mens in 2010, Fed has not won there and we have 4 clay courter in the semi. 

Very boring to watch. 

You can see the ladies game is more aggressive there cause they play with smaller balls.

Medvedev - Thiem - Zverev

For me Thiem  then ZV, Medvedev can wait a little, no one knew of him 2 years ago, while the other 2 have done some leg work at higher level for last 5 years.

if you do not want options, I tell you what:  Medvedev is winning today.  Thiem will try and try, but it will not be enough.
