Who will win the final?
Re: Wimbledon Day 13, Sunday 14th July
Now we know with certainty that it is not a good thing for Fed to have two MPs at 40-15 in a deciding set of a slam against Nole. That is clearly a losing position right there.
When I asked for it not to be the USO 11 repeat before that game even started, I had no idea how nicely they would reproduce it. LOL.
Don't know whether I should laugh or cry.
As I said, I kind of feel - and I hate to say it - that Nole deserved it more just by hanging in there even if his game was not quite working. Fed's game was mostly working well, and yet he failed all the big tests.

Which digs? I had switched over to the cricket before the trophy ceremony.bogbrush wrote:If it can be made any worse, I wonder if this might be the end.
Oh, and I thought Djokovic speech was very insulting. There were some very calculated digs in it and you could see from Federer’s face he got them.

Nole isn't the best, because Nole is way behind Federer in almost all records. So you come back when that's not the case Also, Djok will be gone by 35.
And nole was pushed ona slow surface to winning in a shite tie break v a 38 year old.

Made a point of saying Roger was ONE of the best players ever, didn’t offer any humility about winning only on tbs or being outpointed / outbroke or whatever.summerblues wrote:What did he say?bogbrush wrote:Oh, and I thought Djokovic speech was very insulting. Yeah I get you, if it was Rafa making that speech he’d be repeating Roger you are the greatest for sure, every 5 seconds in his broken English.bogbrush wrote:Made a point of saying Roger was ONE of the best players ever, didn’t offer any humility about winning only on tbs or being outpointed / outbroke or whatever.summerblues wrote:What did he say?bogbrush wrote:Oh, and I thought Djokovic speech was very insulting. Reading the quotes on BBC now, it did seem like a bit of a reminder to Fed that if Djokovic plays till 37 he could well overtake slam record.

I'll be having the last laugh when years go by and it becomes clear to this djok nob rider that he's not going to equal fed's main records, let alone exceed them. And I'll be here as vindictive as you've ever seen. You made a big mistake today, NITB. Have fun.

Hah. The first one and the last are digs. The second is what it is. He won - TB or otherwise does not matter. We did not feel it unfair that Fed kept 2008 final close only through TBs either.bogbrush wrote:Made a point of saying Roger was ONE of the best players ever, didn’t offer any humility about winning only on tbs or being outpointed / outbroke or whatever.summerblues wrote:What did he say?bogbrush wrote:Oh, and I thought Djokovic speech was very insulting. They don’t have any tradition of it there,it’s always been evident from the parents so to be fair he’s just a product of that.

Nadal has a chance of equaling or beating Fed's slam haul (with the aid of so many FO) but I get most pleasure in knowing Novak won't.

Honestly I think Djokovic is a huge threat to Feds slam count, I don’t think Rafa is.

I think Federer’s shoulders should be broad enough to take ‘digs’ like that. Why should Djoko acknowledge Federer as the best ever when, as far as he is concerned, he’s not done yet. If he doesn’t like Fed that’s fine by me.

As fast as ever? Did you just watch that match? A 38 year old kept pace and played better than him. He was as worn out as Fed at the end. No way will he last another 3 years at the top. Prob not even 2. He's coming to the end - you'll see.

Amazing match. Novak some way short of his best but took his chances when he needed to. Starting to get into the discussion as the greatest Wimbledon champion now.
Overall, unless someone else can step up, one of Novak or Rafa look nailed on to win the US Open. Entirely plausible that by next year’s US Open both Rafa and Novak could be up to 19.

That’s a thing over here. It requires a certain type of grace, even saying things to be nice about it. You do t have to offer effusive praise but you have to behave in a certain way.
