Hard to see Anderson dragging his body through this. I guess if he serves brilliantly he has a chance, Djokovic is still not yet the player of old, especially on serve.

Djok in 3.
Hard to see Kev get anywhere near Djokovic. Struggled with the Isner serve. Plus Djokovic is going to returning with more purchase.

Fitting that he will face what another Anderson once faced!

Re: Men's final prediction
I like Kev and am really glad he was finally able to squash his demons...shame he had to do it vs Fed...
Kev is one of the few of old school tennis gents left at the top.
And tennis needs more of those esp now when it’s all about TV viewings and records breaking.
If I am brutally honest, I don’t feel sorry for Kev having played a long match vs Isner...at the end of the day neither had the skill to knock out each out of misery earlier.
No way whould that match have lasted that long with Fed, Nole or Nadal.
I don’t think Wimbledon should introduce TB in the fifth.
These long matches are extremely rare and I find them very enjoyable...they are like dinosaurs.
But as I said, it’s all about profit and TV rights and these changes come too easily now.

This is why Anderson said they should make a tiebreaker in the decider. He knew he was losing this final

Anderson's match was about 2 hours longer than the other semi. Plus he had an extra day of rest.
Not to mention how physically brutal match vs Nadal was.
Physically there should be no excuse for Kev's poor first set. It's all between his ears in his case.

Re: Men's final prediction
I think you might be forgetting the two long 5th sets he had to come through in the quarters and semi, and the lengthy 4th round match against Monfils.noleisthebest wrote:AceofDeath wrote:This is why Anderson said they should make a tiebreaker in the decider. He knew he was losing this final

Or perhaps that doesn’t fit the required narrative.

Re: Men's final prediction
He is a lot heavier than Djokovic and that length of match will hurt him more than a super fit guy like Novak. 21 hours on court before this finalnoleisthebest wrote:AceofDeath wrote:This is why Anderson said they should make a tiebreaker in the decider. He knew he was losing this final

At the end of the day, it's Kev's fault he played his 5 setters.
I am sure he'd rather be losing in the final having played all the 5 setters than to have lost to Monfils in three...
Cold, hard facts.

Exactly.
So what is a guy of his height and serving ability doing engaging in long rallies from the baseline.
When I was in RG watching him lose to Schwartzman from being two sets up and wasting million match points on his owns serve, I cheered him to serve and volley and he did a few times...but reluctantly and clumsily.
He needs to work on it asap. Just to be able to mix it up a bit.

All I am trying to say is Kev should have at least played a decent first set.
Instead, he couldn't get the first serve in to save his life.

Nonsense, the guys gassed.
I’m not conplaining, I’ve no real interest in this match as the styles of play don’t do anything for me so I’m watching the World Cup buildup in between basking.

It was always going to be 3-0 Djok. Anderson is dead on his feet and hasn';t got the same bottle or shot selection - and he's playing the best returner which also neutralizes the serve a bit.
Nadal fans are all in mourning at the moment dreaming of how close the moonballer came to winning.

I know he's gassed...and that this is a rubbish final.
Question, would he have won his five setters vs Fed and Monfils had there been a TB in the 5th?

It should be tie breaker at 5 sets up to the final. ONLY the final of slams and masters should be a game clear.

Re: Men's final prediction
There were signs going into this tournament that Djok might be a real threat - but I wouldnt have expected him to play this well.
It's the will to win and the bottle... something Zverev, Kyrgios and the rest need to take note of.

Mind you - I don't want Anderson to win. He's one dimensional... a serve bot. Nothing more. Won't work against Djok Nadal Murray - and usualy fed as well.

Fucking ridiculous. Anderson is twirling his racquet while the ball bouncing continues, it’s like that joke Youtube video.

Those semis are very interesting as they clearly show the dilemma TDs are facing. Nowadays. Make it too slow and you are guaranteed a roadrunner final... Make it slightly too fast and we have unstoppable serving giants.
At the end of the day we need another fresh Federer.... Otherwise tennis is dead.

Congrats to Nole. Well done. Before the tournament started I was worried that an improved Nole might cost Fed the title. In the end we needed him just to stop Rafa.

Yes, true. Perhaps the only way to deal with it in the long run is to make the serve less dominant. If serve itself were less dominant, surfaces could play faster without the game deteriorating into serve-only displays.Tenez wrote:Those semis are very interesting as they clearly show the dilemma TDs are facing. Then they should have standardized the racquets. Cause that's where finesse was sacrificed for power.

hmm... these cold hard facts comes from someone who was preparing a bucket of excuses for Djoko-Murray semis in RG 2015.
