Re: Grass - 2017
Maybe just saving some energy, play just to win the match and get some grass under his feet and save it for W, don't know but not inspiring much confidence for W.

It's such a lovely day, summer, sunshine, I'll let Ljubicic pull his hair because of Fed....I'm off to having a nice afternoon in Windsor.

Not that surprised. Dimi is a great shot maker but like his wins he can t string enough together. To be beaten by a 34yo when you are supposed to be at the top of your form...is bad really. Good on Cilic to beat Gilles but even that one was a close one.

I must admit we have a great gallery of characters here: often much more fun than the matches we watch.
Take Tenez & yourself for example...what a pair!

Like a typical RR, Zverev will start to be dangerous from set 2 onwards.

Zver could be a really good player if he had his older brother's guts.

Wow, the slo-mo of Zver's FH shows how much power he pounds into it.
The long swing, good timing, tall...and notmmuch left to chance.
He is Fed's dream, I can see how badly he wants to make him run.

Re: Grass - 2017
Two best matches in 2017 were Federer-Nadal AO and Federer-Kyrgios (iw?)
I am curious to see if Zverev can find a way to get into points with Federer.
Somfar he is only banking on hammering his returns.

Re: Grass - 2017
It's normal. You will never see as great a display on grass as on HC because the bounce doesn't give you the confidence to go for shots. I have played a lot on grass and unlike HC you never have the same bounce, therefore it is very difficult to get proper timing, so you tend to play with more safety in mind knowing that your opponent will suffer from it too.raiders_of_the_lost_ark wrote:Fed playing Kachanov in Halle semis. Very rusty. Slicing the ball much more than he was in Aus earlier this year.
You can see how Federer plays very smartly v Zverev . he sends him very varied balls and each of those are going to bounce their own way. It jammed him in that first set.

Exactly. he is dealing with a different pace and variety. Zverev is being rushed and forced into much more thinking.... wrote:Daniel wrote:Zverev playing worst he has all tournament... been shocking stuff so far.

Yeah, cause 1st serves and 1st serve % and unforced errors really has something to do with the guy across the net? You're clueless. Also, will you please quit it with your ridiculous gloating. I lost 5. You're too gutless to even bet.

I think "forget about your 20" was uncalled for and clearly being a nob head. Also "poor learner of the game" LOL yeah, cause zverev didn't beat Fed last year. I imagined it. I also imagined you saying he didn't have a chance. We don't all buy your "belief" that players are better at 55.

Yes I feel that Fed won trotting without forcing his game as clearly he did not want to injure himself like in 2010.gallery play wrote:Some nice volleys that last game!

Not only that, Zverev's first serve and unforced error count was awful. He didn't turn up.

I like this result. It will make Nadal think a little.
There was some pressure on Fed. He had to justify his scheduling. For now it looks like it paid off

Daniel, did you see how Federer toyed with Zverev at the net...drew him to it and then passed him at will.Daniel wrote:gallery play wrote:Fed hits 22 winners, Zverev 8, nuff said

And the balls Zverev did get to, he couldn't volley them to save his life.
Not to mention the dropshots and fast baseline play from Federer.
He has tooooo much game for Zverev.

It was still crap. Still tons of errors that he wasn't doing before. He was nervous - plain and simple. He didn't turn up. I don't expect you to understand, as you see things through Federer fanboy lens and everything he does shines gold. You've probably already got him down as a dead cert for wimbledon despite it being unlikely.

Re: Grass - 2017
Much better from Fed today. Though to some extent it was also that Zverev's style was easier for Fed to play against. Khachanov hits so big he was able to force Fed on defense. I remember watching Fed play Zverev on clay maybe a couple of years ago and just like then, today he also played many drop shots.
All in all, good prep for Federer.

Fed is a bad matchup for Zverev. Zverev will always look like he is not playing his best vs Fed.

Re: Grass - 2017
I know, I saw both of those matches. Fed won on clay very comfortably (more than the score indicates) and I expected him to win on grass too, but he did not.
But I thought it was more to Fed's poor performance than anything else. I really think that Zverev - more so than some other players - has a difficult time coping with Fed's variety. It makes him look worse. Sort of like Stan in that regard, who can play great against Nole and still look ordinary vs Fed.

Re: Grass - 2017
so how much would you have won if Federer lost today Daniel?
youre saying that you bet 20 and lost 5
I'm not a betting person so I have no idea how it works
wouldn't losing a bet mean that you lose what you've betted?

Re: Grass - 2017
Does anyone know why Djokovic chose Eastbourne for his grass prep? Usually it is just the second tier players that play one week before a slam (I know Stan did it before RG but still). Was it a last minute decision or did he plan it all along?

Re: Grass - 2017
He's almost always played his grass prep the week before Wimbledon at Boodles (exos).
Not sure why he stopped that, maybe sponsors.
So Eastbourne is the replacement...not much pressure plus the match conditions.

best final I have ever seen at queens, really high quality match
happy to see lopez win after coming so close before,he really deserved it
the crowd were really on his side today,i think that cilic's serious face looks a bit too threatening

john Lloyd now saying that Federer is the favourite for the Wimbledon title
what happened to murray being the favourite?
and did murray ever donate his "winnings" to the Grenfell tower victims?

Good to see Fed crush that little russian spy, masterclass
So this 2017 Fed/Nadal each 4 titles, Zverev/Tsgona 3 each.

I bet 5 lost 5. I stood to win a little over 20. The low bet was precisely because it was a risky bet.

Yup. You are. These guys didn't win a slam or a Masters event. These things are seen as nothing but warm ups for Wimbledon. The only over 30s doing anything are Nadal Fed and sometimes Wawrinka. Zverev won Rome.
We'll see who wins Wimbledon. Where it counts.
