Re: ATP 2017 500,250: Rio, Marseille, Delray
Murray has 5 or 6 years left at the top of the game? Are they stupid?
They look at Federer playing at 36 and think this applies to others yet ignore the vast differences in style & character.
I'd be amazed if Murray was in the top 4 in two years even if his hip gets sorted. He just hasn't got the game for that longevity, as he said himself. What's he going to do, be RRunning corner to corner getting everything back and outlasting power hitters at 35?

Well, look at Ferrer.
He is 35 and just won a tournament at 35, again a very physical style.
We are starting to see the role of medicine in sport now.
30s is the new 25s in tennis.
Unless something, like revolutuonary technology comes along, the tour will continue thia ageing at the top trend.
I think Murray does not have any serious injuries like Nole, he probably has a few which could become serious if he continues to play too much.
I suppose bith he and Nole are paying the price for 2015&2016.
But once they redover, they both have a good 3-4 years in them on tour.
We'll see.
Writing off needs to be rewritten in tennis talks.
How many times were Federer and Nadal written off?
And who is winning everything and fiting for number one ten years down the line...

Though kudos to Henman for being sensible in the article unlike the moron writing it. He did state Murray's current game is unsustainable for longevity eg Federer and that he'd be amazed if he was chasing corners at 36 and being near the top.
At some point Murray surely has to say to himself that junkball tennis is no longer going to be a coin of the realm and that at some point, needs to adapt his game to take some of that physical pressure off him. I believe he can, but I don't think he'll ever shift that safety first mentality.

I also think he can, his early career quirky tennis would be better suited to those circumstances, and I'd prefer to watch it.
He also did a lot better v Federer in those days, though there are lots of variables t consider.

Yeah, just look at Ferrer. He's complete crap now, and winning some little event away from any top players proves nothing.... wrote:Well, look at Ferrer.

Re: ATP 2017 500,250: Rio, Marseille, Delray
Ferrer never won anything big, anyway, homweapons.
My point was that he is still competing successfully and that's something for a weaponless 35 yo coming from long injury.
A player would have to be crippled with injury to retire before 35 now.
Money is too good and medicine too advanced for anyone to just quit.
Mind you, almost all Federer's generation did - Safin, Davy, Nalby, Roddick...how old was Hewitt when he retired?
The big question to which we don't have an answer is: is new technology lurking around the corner?
But even for that, we'd have to wait a min 10 years.
Strange/interesting times....

He used to make the latter stages of the biggest tournaments, and he did win a Masters. You are using some poxy little tournament to compete with all that? Not to mention his current ranking. You seen it?

Yes. They are. They really are. It's like when they were all declaring that Djokovic was heading to beat 17 slams and 302 weeks number 1. Not one of the pundits or commentators mentioned age or anything else. They just concluded Djok would win 3 slams a year for next 3 years... like it was nothing.

I am beginning to realise it's going to be a long time before he fulfills his talent, if at all.
