Re: BBC Sports personality of the year
I think Murray has personality. Maybe not a very engaging one but he has some natural authority or charisma.
It's like saying Lendl has no personality. A personality hasn't got to be extrovert.

Re: BBC Sports personality of the year
I wonder how he'll carry his number one position.
He looks the most beatable number one in a long time.

Nadal was quite beatable in his reign. Outside clay that is.

Re: BBC Sports personality of the year
the award should be called sports person of the year not personality
personality refers to persona,not achievements
if people were voting purely based on his persona then i think that he would come last every time

It's been a long argument for so long to be honest Vee. The Beeb being the Beeb will no doubt say they are sticking to "Tradition" in relation to the name of the award.
I think what the award demonstrates in relation to Murray's success is:
1) His popularity and that of tennis
2) The absolute inconsideration for Athletics
Oh the other point about the award being on hand. I would imagine they had many of them all over the place.

Re: BBC Sports personality of the year
Athletes normally do fairly well - I think there has been one in the top 3 most of the last 5 years and Mo came 4th this year. I agree though, on pure achievement, Mo should have easily been top 2. I wonder if the drugs suspicions harmed him.
I don't really get the criticism of Murray's personality. Sure, he's not a great public speaker but he always comes across well and seems to engage with the British audience - since 2012 at least. His comment about Kim voting for Nick Skelton was nicely put and amusing. Plus, as LK says, it's really a vote for sports person of the year.

In any case what do those awards really mean? Lots for the fans but not much for the others...so I am certainly not bothered about it.

i dont know if murray is as popular as some may think he i,i know many people who dont even follow tennis who cant stand him just as much as some on here
i think that if there was ever a year that he deserved to win it based on his achievements, then this was the year
wimbledon
olympic gold
world no1
3 grand slam finals
not sure which other british sportsman could top that this year

If it really mattered much, he'd turn up to receive it.
As for Mo Farah...well, he should've played tennis!

Well given the rather PC sensitive nature of this country, I do wonder how long it will be before the BME corner start questioning why no-one from that group wins the award. Think I am right when I saw Lennox Lewis was the last winner in 1999 (I am going off the top of me head).
It depends really. Murray has a dry sense of humour, and whilst I can relate to that I can see how others might not given his monotone voice and lack of facial expression. Not someone that exhumes bright and cheerful complexions.
I don't think anyone particularly cares for the award tbh. I be just as meh for someone I like winning it as someone I don't like winning it.
