This is Paire's shot at immortality. Hit everything like a maniac and do not miss. Easy.

Re: French Open prediction game: Day 2
Looking at the draw now. I would want Dimitrov in QF for Nadal, Raonic is useless.
BTW who are the candidates for retirement in matches this Slam? Nishikori and Ranoic will sure retire in their matches to lose. Delpo is another one.
Monfils?

Re: French Open prediction game: Day 2
Disappointing end for Rubi who had a break in the fifth.
Got nervous towards the end and threw the match away with lack of belief.
Shame, he was the better player.
Still, encouraging signs, he has filled out a bit and his BH is really deadly (same as the FH)
A little more work on the serve and mental prep...he is very close to the Big Arena now.

Re: French Open prediction game: Day 2
Very stupid game from Paire in which he gets broken back.
If you can't put away the mid court ball on your best shit (in his case the bh), the rest is just a joke.
I am tired of flashy players who can't engage their brain.

Re: French Open prediction game: Day 2
I am glad Paire complained to Kaethevong about Nadal taking "10 minutes" between the points.
As a result Nadal receives decent boos from the crowd serving for the 2nd set.
Good on you, Benoit!!!
And shame on the gutless umpire.

Re: French Open prediction game: Day 2
Another gutless decision by the umpire, a clear out (proven by the hawkeye) gone to Nadal.
That is how "king of clay" wins his matches, by cheating all the time.
I used to like Kaethavong before this match.
Not any more.

Again, the ultra embarassing and idiotic "sending love" to he crowd at the end of the match from Djokovic.
What is the matter with him!!!?
At least leave the ballkids alone, don't involve them in your satanic rituals.
I am truly disgusted.

Re: French Open prediction game: Day 2
With or without extra time between the points, this was an easy match for Nadal.
He surely does not miss easy balls like Benoit.
Paire never believed he could win this and lacked precious focus when he was ahead.
Not surprised, but still disappointed.
I'd love to know what he would've done differently.

Re: French Open prediction game: Day 2
When Paire had the BP to go 5:3 up in the second set I turned the TV on hoping for at least a close fight to finish the second set. I was hugely disappointed, Paire looked pathetic, I do not know how he made it to 4:3. He played a handful of ill-advised drop shots and he still does not have a FH.
I do not see anyone in Rafa's section who would give him trouble before QF at least.

Strange and disappointing thing about Paire is that he played better 5 years ago.
He has not improved one single thing in his game.

Disappointing display by Zverev so far. Needs to take control of the rallies otherwise Verdasco will kick him out of the tournament.

Apart from being young and mildly successful, I don't see why people are excited about Zverev.
His game is so safe and dull.
Plus he fistpumps opponent's UEs.
Nando may not have the most stable head, but he's invented tennis for this young wannabe.

The combination young/new and succes will always draw attention.
I don't like his game, untill he starts to beat the roadrunners, even if he's a bit of a roadrunner himself.
I just want to see what he's got.

I also do not like Zverev's game (I quite dislike it in fact) but he is 20 and doing well, so let's see where he gets with it. I would not want him winning 10+ slams but if he can stop Nadal and Nole from winning more than they already have, I am all for it.

Re: French Open prediction game: Day 2
We discussed it before so I know you will disagree, but I just do not think he ever had that much potential. Just because someone plays attacking tennis, it does not mean they have potential to do well. Maybe they are just reckless. That is the case with him, I think. Just look at that forehand! Even his BH is not all that good - he is nowhere near consistent enough with it - and never had been.... wrote:Strange and disappointing thing about Paire is that he played better 5 years ago.
He has not improved one single thing in his game.
There are guys who have potential and waste it (Fognini, for example), but Paire never had that much potential to start with.

Is that for real, or is that a jinx? No need to get all pessimistic yet. I don't see anyone stopping him before QF, and likely not there either, but come SF and final, good things could possibly happen.gallery play wrote:BTW: Nadal wins RG, hands down.

Who is going to stop Nadal in the SF or final? The Djokovic who hasn't won a thing for a year is going to stop Nadal in good form at the FO? Come on!

Who's good enough to stop Nadal in good form at the FO? LOL @ some posters thinking Paire of all people had a chance! The things I read on this forum when I come here once every six months!

He's not going to peak well enough to beat Nadal in this form. The only time Djokovic was ever able to beat Nadal at the FO was in 2015 when Nadal was practically an invalid.
I know most people don't like Nadal on this forum(I don't like his tennis style much either) but let's get some perspective!

I don't think Paire is reckless, he plays instinctive tennis, his only problem may be he is not good (consistent) enough for it to be successful in current conditions.
What is the alternative?
To become A.Zverev...
I think he'd rather be who he is.

He is definitely "ready".
His footwork is at its best.
I have given up on this RG tennis wise.
The only plauer thathad some fire in his wings was eliminated yesterday.
The rest are all full of fear.
Sadly, I think even Djokovic.

well that was pretty crap from zverev...expected him to do much better after winning rome
thought that he would cause a few upsets along the way, rather then turn out to be the upset in the 1st round
gotta say,his brand of tennis is really ugly and unappealing to watch..not a fan sorry

Djokovic and Wawrinka can kill him. People are running about like this is Nadal of years ago. It isn't. He isn't invincible and there are numerous players in the draw that can "cause an upset".
If winning Slams was as easy as Nadal entering the event, he'd have 30 slams by now.
