Didn't read the text, but what makes formula one a sport?
Are all people driving a car then athletes?

Is it a sport?
I can nip on the M25 and see the same reckless driving on a bit of tarmac.

It used to be ok...but now I agree, it's dead boring! Too political, unfair, too much money and Hamilton is certainly not helping it!

Essentially the best car wins. There have been real rare instances where driver 'skill' was the only factor in a F1 win.

So, a bit like in current tennis: the best "team" wins.

Pretty much in essence. The spark of any individual brilliance is shining less brightly

True enough. There have been no instances when driver skill was the only factor afaik. Maybe a one-off win like when Tazio Nuvolari beat the Silver Arrows in a great victory.legendkillar wrote:Essentially the best car wins. But it's also true that the best drivers can chose the best team. I gotta admit that the sport was more exciting in earlier times when there was more at stakes. I just love the very old racing stories of the 30ies - 70ies. Also the excitement of the people at the time was so electrifying.
Lately I became kind of an expert on the matter cos I worked for an exhibition on racing, met Jutta Kleinschmidt (won Paris-Dakar) there and Toni Mang (5 times world champion in motorcycle racing in the 80ies) which was kinda interesting too.
