Interesting that's this is the first time since Sampras & Hingis in 1997 day that both defending AO champions are number ones, too (ATP and WTA)

Pat Cash doing the actual draw, just commented on time between the points rule, sounds promising

I didn't hear the whole thing (the beginning) he took the mickey out of Nole's ball bouncing (very brave and original!), I think the interviewer asked him what he thought of the new time rule, and he supported it.luvsports! wrote:what did the say about the time rule????

Nole plays Mathieu in the first round, Berdych lurking as the top seed in his quarter.

Ferrer with Tisparevic in the same quarter (same as USO), JJ in the same quarter having a kind draw for the first few rounds.

No, he is in Ferrer's quarter, playing Bennetteau first.
Compared to Djokovic and Federer, number one and two players, Ferrer and Murray really have a cakecup draw.

Re: 2013 Australian Open Draw
Absence of a formidable player like Nadal has put a huge imbalance in the draw. I don't miss Nadal but I do miss a competitor player like him. Else it becomes a cake-walk draw till the finals for 1 player.
Perhaps. Every possible thing was done to produce a match for him and provide others a better chance. This AO draw is very tough for him, all the players who can trouble him are in his side of the draw.
1. Praire
2. Davydenko
3. Tomic
4. Raonic
QF. Tsonga
Thats a tough road just to reach the Semis.
Then possibly Murray and the Djo. This is as tough as it could have got for him. Nonetheless Wishing him all the best.
Murray:
1. Hasse. (If Hasse can get his act absolutely right, it could be end for Murray right here )
If he crosses it, till QF its a virtual walkover.
QF: Delpo. though Murray handles him well enough. But its could be possible we get an improved Delpo. But just as likely is seeing a injured Delpo. In the latter case, Murray's walk-in-the park will continue for one more round.
3. Ferrer: No body he can't get past till the semis. His resume has greatly improved Slam-wise with Nadal's absence.
4. Djokovic: Imbalance in the playing field has greatly started to help him now. He will stroll to the finals. He really needs to put an effort to lose early, else he just can't.

To me they seem comparable. Fed's is the hardest by far, but both Nole and Murray have similarly difficult ones. Of course, between Nole and Murray you have to compare only through QF. Obviously, Nole has far the easier SF, but that is not due to the draw but due to the seeding.

Re: 2013 Australian Open Draw
Second quarter has both the weakest top seed (Ferrer) and the weakest second seed (Tipsy). Maybe a chance for one of the youngsters to break through? Kei? Grigor? Of course, in the end it will be a Tipsy-Ferrer QF.

of course he is I can not wait their match. That will be very interisting.
I do not think that possible opponents as Paire, Davydenko, Tomic, Raonic, Tsonga can beat Fed, but they will be good test for him. Delpo or Berdych would be much more tougher for Fed. Only Murray is unwanted as always

Cupcake for Nole.

I think Fed will handle everyone there with ease. No grinders in the path until the semis. I am only heartbroken Paire is there in the first match. That's a crime against tennis

I don't know. I am intrigued to see what Tsonga shows up.
It is a crime for Paire to draw Federer, though this could be Paire's big chance to announce himself to the big stage

Unfortunately, I think Tsonga made a wrong choice with his coach and I am not expecting much from him.
As for Paire and the big stage, well, that match is going to be most beautiful to watch in terms of shot-making and flair, that will have to be my reward and comfort
Couldn't they have just given Fed Ramos like they did in Wimbledon...or another Frenchmen (doesn't Fed's draw always get loaded with the French and Germans and Nadal's with Spaniards....)

Nitb, your "second" man has much to pay back to Fed from Bercy, so this could be a nice match, which also shows what potential Paire has. at the draw.

Paul, any news from "Lendl" in Czech media ?
Does he get interviewed there regularly, esp now that he is Murray's coach?

Latest info from Ivan was just that he pushes Andy to play more aggressive tennis. It looks that six women is enough for Ivan to stay at home, so he will definitely enjoy Australian open after a long time he has been there.
