Weak era - especially clay Empty Weak era - especially clay

Does anyone here really think that the number of clay titles - especially at RG - is indicative that he's just great and wonderful?  Let's take a reality check here:  There's no-one challenging.  The only player who can remotely be called a clay specialist is Thiem - and his first slam title is on hard court.  Once again, it's Djok Nadal final.  YAWN.

The truth is - Nadal and Djokovic currently have no opposition on hard court and clay.  The only slam still worthy of winning is Wimbledon, where there's at least a level of talent and competition.

Also, it doesn't matter if Nadal has 20 slams or 30 - his spread across them is what matters.  He always will be behind in 3 of the 4 and the ATP finals.  In the future, people are going to wonder why he won so many French Opens and the verdict will be the lack of competition.

Nadal's competition on clay can be judged on how you view Federer and Djokovic's level on clay. Nadal has had to face one of those two for 10 of his 13 RG wins.

I personally think Djokovic and Federer are both in the top 10 greatest clay courters of all time, but their stats simply don't show it because they were up against Rafa so many times.
For example, if not for Rafa, Federer would have won 6 RG titles, and Djokovic would have won 5 RG titles.
Given the surfaces are relatively homogenous, and how insanely good Djokovic and Federer are on medium paced hard courts (even if it's not Fed's ideal surface), I think it's silly to assume that they're both not world class on clay.

I agree now in general we are in a bit of a weak period with the exception of the Big 3. The next gen are simply not good enough. But before you get too enthusiastic with this line of argument, remember that when Nadal fans made similar arguments about the other players of Federer's age, many Federer fans (including many on this forum) insisted that analysing competition level itself is invalid as it's too subjective.

@Daniel, who were you supporting for the RG final?

I remember you saying after Djokovic's speech at W2019 that you'd support Nadal in future clashes vs Nole.
Also, what were your thoughts on Djokovic's coach, Goran, declaring that Nadal has 'no chance' ahead of the final because of the conditions favouring the Serb?

Guilty as charged.
I could not even watch the final until the final 2 games because I was fearful. Would have avoided the final completely but I accidentally found out 2 hours in, when a friend messaged me asking how the hell Nadal is owning Djoko so badly.
