The current young generation (Zverev, Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Shapovalov, FAA, maybe Thiem, etc) definitely looks better than the one before (Dimi, Raonic, Nishi, even Cilic) but they do look a step behind the Big 3.  I wonder whether they are just a current equivalent of the previous second tier like Berdych, Ferrer, Tsonga, etc (whereas Dimi et al were not even equals of those).

Rafa's draw looked quite bad initially, but ended up pretty cushy.  He did not have to play anyone from top 70 before SF (highest ranked opponent #74).  I almost thought that would have never happened in the past but after some search, it is not as unique as I thought.  I went over the last 20 years of data, and there was one other occurrence - at 2006 RG, Ljubicic reached SF and his highest-ranked opponent was #79.

And he is right. Only an injured Djoko will lose Rafa. typically I know that being so confident can in itself create an upset....but frankly I cannot see how. Nadal wil be dead after 4 games.
