Re: US Open - 2020
I hope not. I hope Thiem will find a way to end it before TB. He is definitely the better player now.

Why? You thought wet nappy Zverev would serve that out? More balls to be found in a nuns convent than with this generation of LOSERS.

Can Theim serve it out or are we in for more comedy?
Zverev does look like a dead man walking.

I hope he can. If he gets broken then neither of them deserves it. They should just stop at 6:6 and declare no champion this year.

LOLZ. They are serving for the match like Fed vs Nole.

Re: US Open - 2020
I'd say Zverev's pitiful serving may be the critical factor.

Re: US Open - 2020
This is the poorest tennis I have seen at a pro-level for a while. And it happened to be in a slam final.
At least the result is the goof one.

Glad that Thiem won. Good for him. Hopefully he can win a couple of more slams at least before he is done.

Re: US Open - 2020
There was some high grade choking going on from both of them. In the end, I think Zverev's ability to serve a DF after a DF made the difference.

Re: US Open - 2020
An absolutely massive serve at 5-6 down from Zverev to save championship point.
Happy for Thiem. He was obviously physically hampered today, but deserved it nonetheless. Now I hope he does into party mode for a few weeks!

Hopefully Thiem will not lose hunger for the French Open. He could become the first player ever to win both Roland Garros and the USO one month apart.

Re: US Open - 2020
Zverev was terrible wasn't he. So bad it made Thiem's bottling look excusable. 2 DFs in the tie break of your life....

Why not? No GS, but a $1.5m should make your tears go away after 15 min of crying.
He is young and can win a GS, though Becker the criminal fraudster said yesterday that Zverev is a mental giant
Good to see Thiem made it finally and hopefully he can take RG too.

I don't think he is going to think about his millions today. Just the sad fact the world and all his tennis peers witnessed that meltdown against a disabled opponent might last longer than his millions.

But Thiem only admitted to nerves, not any injury, as he was kicking ass last 3 sets.

Happy for Thiem.
Both players were clearly nervous, but what can you expect when it is just three guys winning slams in the last 4 years

Frankly, neither of you deserved it."I wish we could have two winners today, we both deserve it," Thiem told Zverev, whom he has known since they were juniors.

Re: US Open - 2020
Thiem just deserved on the fact that he had reached 3 slam finals and in all the 3 he was asked to beat both Nadal and Djoko. Very difficult.Tenez wrote:Frankly, neither of you deserved it."I wish we could have two winners today, we both deserve it," Thiem told Zverev, whom he has known since they were juniors.
This was his chance, and he took it. So well deserved.

And nitb said to me once that Tsitsipas will win a slam before Thiem. So so wrong.

Yes but only because Zverev chocked it big way...and Djoko made that stupid mistake.raiders_of_the_lost_ark wrote:And nitb said to me once that Tsitsipas will win a slam before Thiem. So so wrong.
Don;t get me wrong, I don't mind Thiem. The fact he has a SHBH is enough for me to give him some credit but did you see those final gutless games from both?

Re: US Open - 2020
It can happen. In RG 2009, Fed too became extremely nervous when Nadal was ousted in R4 and he suddenly was being pipped to win it now. He almost lost of Haas and Delpotro.Tenez wrote:Yes but only because Zverev chocked it big way...and Djoko made that stupid mistake.raiders_of_the_lost_ark wrote:And nitb said to me once that Tsitsipas will win a slam before Thiem. True, when everyone expects you to win easy or the tournament now is yours so just show up, it can screw up your brain pretty good.

Re: US Open - 2020
Really? Can you compare what we saw yesterday with fed's performance in 2009? Wow... Fed played great in FO 09 he won 15% more point than Haas but was very unlucky to find himself 2 sets down in spite of playing well. It's the scoring system which sometimes allows close matches in spite of difference in level and those things can happen. Yet under ultimate pressure he still went for his shots. Fed tried all the way and pushed his skills and luck. No slice rallies at 35mph. This is exactly the opposite of what happened yesterday.raiders_of_the_lost_ark wrote:It can happen. Updated all time GS list. Average points equals to average points per Slam. Brog still kicking ass (not my work).

Tenez is right. Zverev and Thiem both played like they were heading for a gas chamber. No balls. It was who would lose it, not who would win. And Zverev has proven himself the bigger bottler.
