Nadal looks very average. He's there for the taking. Except the only decent opponent on his side is Del Po - but he doesn't have a proper BH

Thiem beat Anderson?  That is not good. But if Anderson cannot beat Thiem, he would not beat Rafa either.  Thiem is not very useful on HC.  The only silver lining is that some of Thiem's HC weaknesses - esp the fact he likes to play from quite far back - are better exploited by more aggressive players than by Rafa.

Now it is just going to be two clay courters fightining it out on a HC.  The problem is that Rafa is a better clay courter and I am not sure Thiem has any specifically HC prowess to offset that.

I just noticed that if Thiem beat Rafa and Fed won the title, Fed would reclaim #1 spot.

I just wish a player could get hold of her and move her a bit. She’s flaying the ball because she can’t run, get her moving and she’ll expire.

the good thing about Thiem is that he will make Nadal run a fair share. And that is all we need prior the final stages.

Really? That’s genuinely surprising given how Federers been shedding points.

Thiem played very well, hit over 40 winners to around a dozen UE's, but Anderson was off form. Maybe jaded by the 5 setters.

Agree, Theim was great today, some proper winners, slices and BH's. Kev wasn't at W level of serving, but Thiem neutralized him.

He can run with Rafa 5 hours no prob.

That is one good thing, yes, he can last with Rafa for 5 sets.

The court is slow, the bounce is high, and the court is BIG. I think he can take Nadal out.

I wouldn't get your hopes up, unfortunately he has a tendency when under pressure to just hit harder, and harder, and harder.

There's no guile. He has a chance if he gets on top in rallies and runs him around but he has to cut the errors down.

Despite going for Thiem on the other thread, I just wanted to point out that those factors (slow high bouncing big court) are perfect Rafa conditions. I just have a hunch that Thiem may do it, not too much logic behind it except perhaps at this stage of their careeer and in particular this point in the tournament Thiem may be physically stronger.
