Re: Day 11 - Wimbledon
Interesting how Nole's struggling with Richie's 2nd serve...just aced him with it now!
Imagine if the 1st serve was working...must be the shoulder.
Serve is such a fascinating shot: so many things can go wrong, yet when one is relaxed, it feels the simplest thing on earth!

Yes I think Gasquet is suffering on his serve.

Federer woudl be so much more deadly if he was able to pull pacy BHs like Gasquet and Stan.

Re: Day 11 - Wimbledon
Djoko's 71% first serve av at Wimbledon.....it's only high cause again he drops his pace by 10% at least in his first serve. So it's a "safe first serve again!.

It's the technique, Richie (and Stan) have shorter follow-through and take it earlier I think.Tenez wrote:Federer woudl be so much more deadly if he was able to pull pacy BHs like Gasquet and Stan.

And here goes the 10 games of Gasquet with one set to spare.

Re: Day 11 - Wimbledon
No they don't take it earlier on average.....but they simply hit it harder. Fed tries to control it and cut down the UEs..hence more spinny.noleisthebest wrote:It's the technique, Richie (and Stan) have shorter follow-through and take it earlier I think.Tenez wrote:Federer woudl be so much more deadly if he was able to pull pacy BHs like Gasquet and Stan.

From what I saw with Richie, it's his technique, he hits it more in front of himself, in a pushing away movement, not brushing upwards like Fed.
But despite that, Fed is quicker while striking it and has softer and more mobile wrists esp on his half-volleys.
To me his and Richie's are the top two.

Wow, didn't Nole turn on the heat after that overruled hawkeye call?
So he plays his best tennis when angry, interesting!

In terms of safe power, Stan is the better one...at least outside grass.

No, he plays his best tennis when the pressure is off..when he is 2 sets to love up!

Yes, but in that particular situation it was pure anger. I won't translate what he was yelling out after that 1mm hawkeye overrule...Tenez wrote:noleisthebest wrote:Wow, didn't Nole turn on the heat after that overruled hawkeye call?

Well I'd take 17 slams v 2. But if I had the choice to pick between Fed and Stan's powerful BH, I'd take Stan. Now if that meant losing the quick hands of Federer in the process, I'd stay with Fed's BH.

I think so. Pretty strong language.
He also kind of had enough of Richie and wanted to show him who's the boss.

Well, in essence, it's the choice of being a ball player or a ball basher.

Actually, Richie has a nice combination of both pace and feel on his BH.
Not a bad compromise at all!

I could've sworn that serve from Gasquet was in, yet the hawkeye showed it 2mm out...looks like the organisers are un a hurry for the main show...
Still, I enjoyed this match, Richie's put himself back on the map!

True, but it's his gutsiness that won him everything.
Verdasco's another one with a great powerful shot (FH),but hasn't git much to show for it...

Oh noooo, the pre-match Murray hype overdrive
If someone who knew nothing about was listening, he'd think Murray's at least as good as Fed .

Re: Day 11 - Wimbledon
I can see now why Fed is having to spin his FH...the flat ones just cam't control all that muscled spin coming from Murray's racquet.
Looks weird. Or are those bad bounces on bald grass patches that are disturbing his timing?

Yes...but it's not nice to look at, so much effort.
Just looks plain stupid to see a tennis player sprint headlong from corner to corner.
He is worse than Nadal.
I actually really like Nadal's footwork, the only natural part of his game.
