I haven't seen much of Murray (except against Karlovic, and was not impressed. His FH was loopy and toothless.)
How has he been playing?
Can't wait for the semis tomorrow!

Re: Wimbledon Prediction Game: Day 10
Interesting that Nole mentioned Richie's fitness as the only thing he improved compared to last 2-3 years.
I didn't notice as he still looks his unathletic old self... but he must have done .
Maybe that was the "belief" that kept him in the battle in the fifth set last night.
Good on him!
Anyone remembers that epic Stan-Richie 5 setter in RG a few years ago? That was such a heartbreaker he lost after being two sets up. One of the best matches that year.
I didn't see the "Nole screaming at ballgirl" incident, but it seems that British media are rearing their ugly head again.
I wonder if they'll try anything against Federer...fortunately, he does not give them a lot to play with.

Re: Wimbledon Prediction Game: Day 10
But as usual, the FH is not there to score points nowadays but to keep rallying and force rallying....hence the loop, coupled with a powerful CC BH, Federer is going to cover lots of ground. Scoring points is tough enough but scoring points while being worried about saving energy doesn't make the task easier.noleisthebest wrote:I haven't seen much of Murray (except against Karlovic, and was not impressed. But in Murray's case, his best tennis is when he muscles rather than loops his FH.
He's been playing like that for a few years now.
Maybe he didn't need it so far...pretty easy draw.

I must say, it would be horrible for someone with such poor serve like Murray to beat Federer.
I don't even want to think about it!

Re: Wimbledon Prediction Game: Day 10
It's actually quite telling the way he behaved under pressure...again. I think the media are right to point it out. Especially since he has always been keen to show that he was cool flairplay and relax......easy to build an image when things are fine....but when it gets tougher, the real nature comes back. At least Murray is not pretending.noleisthebest wrote:

Come on T!
Let's not kid ourselves here...
He said he yelled out at himself in frustration and the girl happened to be in the way...apologised, end of story, why bring it back in the press conference two days in a row?
Murray on the other hand, F-bombs, insults his box, the whole world understands what he says and papers are quiet...
I have no problem with letting out verbal frustration, only how media deal with it.
I read how Pascal Maria gave Pospisil time violation yesterday...did Murray get any?
Then the patetic hawkeye abuse against Karlovic...you may defend it as much as you like, not me.

Garbine Muguruza (ESP) [20]
Serena Williams (USA) [10] - joker
Jamie Murray (GBR) [13]
John Peers (AUS) [13]
Rohan Bopanna (IND) [13]
Florin Mergea (ROU) [13]
Don't know what happened in the Djokovic incident exactly, but if it's true what the papers wrote he did scream at the girl for the towel because she didn't bring it quick enough for his taste. He seems to be the person who gets angry when frustrated, see racket smashes in RG final and also some other place this year already (Doha?). This while comfortably being No. 1, quite surprising, I'd expect him to be more relaxed.
Murray also gets angry and screams, but he doesn't seem as intimidating, might be a matter of looks. He looks more ridiculous than scary imho.
Agree that the time violation was somewhat partial, though Pospisil did marginally go over the limit more so than Murray and it IS a time violation and can be punished at umpire's discretion as the players know. It's not like Pospisil did nothing wrong.
Hawkeye is a bit different as the rules are clear in that you are not allowed to challenge after playing the ball. Wawrinka e.g. did not challenge on a ball that went wide in the QF because he had played it. So this is an error in judgement by the umpire imho, similar to the one in the USO 09 final.
Don't think umpires will pull something like the SF though. Likewise I'd be surprised if British press wrote something bad about Fed, he is a favourite in Britain as well.

He clearly is shouting at her asking for the towel. But it's weird as it seems that even the BBC wants to make sure it is not spread all over youtube.
Yes, Murray is also under the influence of too much steroids and testosterone. he is a nasty piece but he does not pretend he is someone else much.

It will be difficult to fault Fed but in subtle way like v karlo or Posp the tournament might want to push Murray over Federer.Autumnleaf wrote:

He is so tense, I don't remember him being this neurotic in the past. I think it's the pressure Boris puts him under.
He can't try and be someone he is not.
Still, media are clearly trying to do some damage, taking it to press conferences two days in a row.

Anyway, what did you make out of those 11 footfaults Ivo was given against Murray in 2012?
Or that amazingly convenient 2mm hawkeye challenge the other day?
I admit I can't stand that kind of things, it's a terrible, ruthless world out there on the court and especially behind the close doors.
I am just trying to point them out.
Not that much will change, but it makes me feel better

Corruption is everywhere but i find it hard to imagine how they arrange these things without leaking or making it too obvious. It's much easier to put something in someone's drink, fi Murray's opponant..
This ain't a perfect world but if you really want to see a conspiracy, you'll find one. You'll always find arguments to back up your prejudiced thoughts.
No one can disagree with that.

T, about your example: that is weak arbitration. That Ref probably felt the pressure of the 15.000 spectators. (which is a bad thing of course)

Re: Wimbledon Prediction Game: Day 10
The problem I have is, are certain players made aware they can abuse rules before their matches or are they just trying their luck...
I may be wrong but I have a feeling Murray has been given a very long leash and he knows it.
I saw Federer challenge silly calls in two tournaments (small ones) in 2013, once was I think in Bastaad (he lost that match anyway, played with terrible back pain) the other can't remember where but it was against Monfils.
It looked like he could not go wrong with challenges...in the first instance I don't think he was aware of it, against Monfils I think he was.
But they are just my observations...and I can't help noticing them.
Nadal is very sly, and with him all is done well before the match so he doesn't have to get his hands dirty...but we saw his true face when he threatened Bernardes....and all that followed.
I am not kidding myself that the world is just and all are equal on the tour, even players speak about it...just that fans seem to be so dismissive and thinking what lovely, whiter than white sport we have!

Just saw the end of Aga-Muga...happy for Muga, nice, composed girl.
When asked who was going to win the second semi didn't go through the PR motions...just said - Serena, she is 25:1 against Sharapova...
Will be a good final on Saturday.

It was indeed
Delpo went wide on a shot. Both players walked back to the change of ends. Delpo right before passing Garner challenges and Garner allows him. Federer not impressed had a pop at Garner because of the timing. The ball was out, but again the time between the call and challenge was ridiculous. Must've been about 15 seconds.
There was the time Federer was playing Wawrinka at IW I think and he challenged his own serve after missing a half volley on the return and the umpire (can't think who it was) didn't allow it and Federer called for Lars the match referee.
I like Tenez was annoyed Garner allowed the challenge after Murray played the ball.

Re: Wimbledon Prediction Game: Day 10
GP, I have been watching Wimbledon or sport for too too long not to notice patterns. It doesn't go back to teh Murray/karlo match....you may remember Tim henman v Paul Haarhuis awful successive line calling. It's not poor referring, it's "professional" referring. They are there to give what the crowd wants. No different than doping but it's just another way of reaching the desired goals. Pospisil was also given time penalties at crush times....despite averaging 25s. Do you think the referee would have had the same attitude towards Murray? Even McEnroe and Henman were shocked.gallery play wrote:T, about your example: that is weak arbitration. That Ref probably felt the pressure of the 15.000 spectators. (which is a bad thing of course)

And it's essentially because people don't think of it or don't suspect..that cheating is actually abused. The devil is in the detail.

And surely the USO seeds draw for 10 years was very grotesque. When ESPN showed that the chances for top seeds not to have a player ranked higher than 60 or so in the first round was 1 in a million!
none of us suspected such a tournament like the USO would mess around the draws....yet they clearly did. proven, fact, red handed, like LA! That's why we need to keep conspiring....cause if we don't they certainly will.
