ATP Masters 1000: Rome
It's bella Italia, it's a bit of crazy and a bit of mamma mia...it's the land of Fiery Fabio and Corazon Francesca, it's where fans watch on Foro Italico without tickets...dangling their legs over stadium walls, where Saint Seppi once was a hero three days in a row,!
It's a city that loves Nole....it's Roma!!!!
And as we know all roads lead to it, everyone will be there, even Federer!
The draw is out:

I have just had a look at the draw...and
I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!
Can they be any more blatant fixing Nadal with cakewalks....this has become disgusting

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Rome
Actually, not only does Nadal have a peanuts draw, his opponents ranked above him for RG are all in the same half/quarter...Nishi, Murray...
Does he have a chance making it to number 4 at all?
What does he need: a win in Madrid and a SF in Rome?
If I am absolutely livid about it, how must be the players then feeling about him...

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Rome
I said I did not believe Nadal's draws were systematically fixed but frankly I cannot agree more with you NITB.
Nadal once again has all the SHBH on his side (Federer, Stan, Dimi..) and the ones he has an extremely good record against (berdych and so on). But all teh DHBH who have recently caused Nadal trouble are on Djoko's side....including Djoko himself, Nishi, Murray, Ferrer but also Goffin, Cilic, Kygios. While Nadal has Mayer, Sousa or Galo!!!!!

I will...but this is not about me being right...I gain zero pleasure from it - wish I were terribly wrong!
The point is to expose Nadal and his fake greatness.
Whether I add the prediction or not doesn't change the fact he has super easy draws with all the players he hates playing being far away from him.
I hope you can see at least that much.

But you have to be right first or else the rest makes no sense. Anyway, if you are right, we should be able to gather pretty strong circumstantial evidence over time. If you feel confident in predicting non-slam draws, you may also predict those - that way we could get to meaningful numbers faster.noleisthebest wrote:I will...but this is not about me being right...

Everybody with open eyes must see what draws are given to Nadal currently, so it is up to fans to call it right names. It is clearly laughable to fans but to players in particular.summerblues wrote:But you have to be right first or else the rest makes no sense.  Anyway, if you are right, we should be able to gather pretty strong circumstantial evidence over time.  If you feel confident in predicting non-slam draws, you may also predict those - that way we could get to meaningful numbers faster.noleisthebest wrote:I will...but this is not about me being right...This is pretty clearly not your pointnoleisthebest wrote:The point is to expose Nadal and his fake greatness.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Rome
Don't you think it's a bit strange SB that Nadal almost always end up with those SHBH shot makers on his side while those DHBH lung busting players are on the opposite draw? In fact you don't need to check it from now but look at the history!
I am not saying it is systematic but over his career, it has been really "weird" to say the list.
It started with Nalbandian while they were both number 2 and 3 and I had made the point then that it was the first time a number 2 and 3 never met in 2 years or so!!!!. Toni knew probably that Nalby woudl be a tougher opponent than Federer because of his DHBH....And he was right cause the first time they met it was a tennis lesson, in fact 2 in succession......and that only happened in 2007. by that Time Nadal and Federer ad played 13 times!!!!!
Please take past draws when doing your stats.

What I've noticed with the draws in Madrid and Rome, they are trying to give Nadl a big push to make the forth seeding in RG, or at least prevent him from dropping out of top 8.
Not only dod wy make his draw super easy, they have made Nole's draw terrible.
And not only Nole's but Murray's and Nishi's too.

"Ad hominem attack!" Â
Come on SB...for a respectable, well-dressed looking woman to ask (read:yell out) Nadal in last year's RG final: "How's Dr Fuentes, Rafa?"
followed by: Â "Hurry up Rafa!" TWICE Â when he was taking time before serving...(after the last one I had the entire Chatrier do a collective Shhhh! Â )
I did it knowing they could kick me out. But he heard me and it was worth it!
do you know anyone else who'd do it or has done it?
I don't just talk the talk, I walk the walk

Looking at the past does not allow to make the same sort of statistical conclusion as predicting future. There is always the risk that one looks at the data with bias.Tenez wrote:Please take past draws when doing your stats.
Anyway, if you guys are right, we should ultimately collect pretty strong evidence. NITB does not need to get it right every single time. As long as she can consistently do better than 50%, we can accumulate evidence over time.
If she gets 7 out of 10 right, that does not mean much. But if she - over time - gets 70 out 100, that is very strong.
Of course, if she ends up averaging about 50/100, that would weaken the claim significantly.

Not to take past draws into account can make the study look as bias. Ignoring for instance the famous 08-11 draw study is as biased to me. I am pretty sure in fact that since this study, they have actually been a bit more careful....as it showed.summerblues wrote:Looking at the past does not allow to make the same sort of statistical conclusion as predicting future. Coric struggled more beating number 380 than Rublev beating nber 60.....though I know it does not mean much.
I would like Rublev to be exposed young and early to those kind of retrievers so he can sort them out and concentrate on the other shpt makers.

Yes, Rublev is playing the local guy today (Fabbiano).
Coric and Zverev are grinders of the worst kind.
From what I've seen, Rublev will be able to handle them, he is full of the right kind of belief.

Raonic out of Rome and quitr possibly RG die to foot surgery (pinched nerve).

Rublev, Coric, Zverev all failed to qualify for the main draw.
Pleased to see that Nobody-bagels-Dusan-Lajovic single-handedly trouncd Coric

Yes, and he will lose a lot of points from RG.
But I think his main focus this year is Wimbledon.

Well I've got the ticket for QF on Lenglen this year...would be good to see Nadal lose there, but as he's going to be in Berdych's quarter, that looks a bit far-fetched now...

Well obviously I'm not happy at the result, but at this stage in his career the Masters aren't massive important for Nadal. Apart from the appalling final, this was his best week of the year so far, but his confidence won't be great heading into Rome.noleisthebest wrote:You mean you haven't taken it badly?

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Rome
Nadal has never played his best in Madrid. The altitude of Madrid (600 meters) makes it play like an indoor court. Had this final been played in Rome (sealevel) we would have seen a different match.
However, it is clear that Nadal does not have much confidence in his groundstrokes. He kinda expects to miss after a few shots.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Rome
Hi GP - Good to read you.
I am not sure why Madrid never suit him but the altitude makes the ball bounce higher.....so it shoudl suit him. He still won it 4 times.....not bad considering it is on clay since 2008 or 9. They play with Dunlop fort there and this certainly makes the conds faster. That's probably why.
The FO will be with Babolat and having played with them recently it is a very different game as they are much slower.

Even Federer beat him in straight sets in Madrid..
It does have a high bounce but the thin air makes it easier to hit winners. Once the ball is hit real clean, Rafa's in trouble in Madrid. Despite his 4 wins, he never looked as impressive as fi in Rome or Monaco

Yes though that was after a 4h match the day before v Djoko.....but I agree it is faster....the thin air more than the balls probably as the balls are the same in MC and Rome I believe.gallery play wrote:Tenez wrote:Hi GP - Good to read you.

I admit though the main reason he lost wasn't the altitude, but his lack of confidence (and Murray to take advantage of it).
Mind you, Bo5 in Paris will give him comfort, he's not out of the picture there.

Murray now doesn't know whether he'll play Rome, he'll decide tomorrow (apparently he is already there).
He wants to play, but doesn't want to burn out for grass season.
So, if he doesn't play, who then takes his place in the draw?

Feli Lopez is such a nice, smooth player currently giving young Kyrg a lesson that there is more to tennis than a booming serve, and more to attitude than pierced ears and weird haircut.
